I don't mind this change and it reduces the package size by over 100MB. Perhaps a separate Help package could be provided for those who want to use it offline. Adobe apps work the same way but while they don't provide the Help as a separate package, they do provide a PDF of the help system. https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/x-productkb/global/offline-help.html#:~:text=To view your product's Help, menu choice or press F1.
I wouldn't expect the Help window to open in my system's default browser - Help is supposed to be in a window that is part of the application and always on top of other windows and that's what the devs have done. Also if it opened in my default browser I might get additional browser chrome cluttering things up.
Cmd+W is passed through to the parent window because it's just another Affinity window. That shouldn't happen but it happens with all Affinity dialogs. I agree that users would expect to close this window with Cmd+W so perhaps that issue would need to be fixed when this is rolled out.
The new Affinity window help has a much better default font size than the Mac system help which is great butthe user can adjust Mac help with +/- while the Affinity window doesn't support this accessibility feature.
But I fully agree that the lack of a text search field and Cmd+F is a big deal, I always jump to what I want with Cmd+F.
Affinity's help has never supported some of the standard Mac help features (back, forward, show/hide sidebar, share) so their omission from this window isn't a big deal.

This is likely to be an unfortunate side effect of the thumbnail generation - typically thumbnails can be generated a few milliseconds, but if your files are a few hundred MB each, we might be taking a long time to generate each one.
The thumbnails serve no purpose other than to give a rough confirmation that you have chosen the file you intended to - I'd be happy to add a setting to disable them.

Andy Somerfield got a reaction from Patrick Connor in Affinity Photo - adding adjustment preset with a mask
I excluded the mask when adding adjustment presets because at the time I felt that the mask would be intrinsically linked to the source document and not much use in other documents - and if we did save them, we would need to deal with applying the preset to other documents of differing sizes.
It can certainly be done, but I'd like to understand your intended use a bit more before committing to adding it.

    Hi,

Affinity is about, amongst other things, the "experience" of designing things.. 60fps, fluid navigation and editing of documents is at the heart of what we do.

WINE is a wonderful project, but I don't think it would work for Affinity - performance is close to native, but support for things like our use of OpenGL / input interaction would take some work. It also assumes a Windows build to map onto WINE libs - which we don't have. You have more chance of convincing us to make a native Linux version than a WINE one..

I won't rule out making a Linux version of Affinity, but I need someone to show me a combination of distro, desktop topology and deployment (paid) platform where we would recoup our development costs. If someone can show me that, I'll be willing to talk some more about it all..

    Hope this helps,

The separable and non-separable kernels are fundamentally different:

Here is a (rough) analogy using Wolfram Alpha:

    Non-Separable:

    http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=sinc%28hypot%28x%2Cy%29%29+between+-10+and+10

    Separable:

    http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=2*sinc%28x%29*sinc%28y%29+between+-10+and+10

We include them both because separable is faster - and some people even prefer the results!

    Hope this helps,

Andy Somerfield got a reaction from Wanesty in WebP in Affinity Photo
    Morning,
We have decided to implement WebP export for (hopefully) 1.9.
The decision is not solely because it is now supported in Safari - although that doesn't hurt.
In the time I have been working here at Serif (15+ years), there have been hundreds of "JPEG / PNG killer" file formats announced - not a single one has succeeded. If we had supported each one, we would now have a massive amount of export code to maintain which was used by either 1 or 2 people, or more likely nobody. We don't like to remove features which we have added - so we would be stuck with the problem forever.
We generally don't implement new export formats unless a.) They are old but have some unique technical feature which is genuinely useful or b.) They are new and have either a good chance of achieving widespread adoption or have some unique technical feature which we think has merit.
WebP is being implemented because we think it has a high chance of widespread adoption.
    Hope this helps,
    Andy.

We are pleased to announce that the first Affinity Photo 2 for iPad Customer Beta 2.0.3 is now available.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
