  1. SHORT UPDATE: I revisited another flyer that i had this problem with. I unticked the "fill knocks out..." in every layer with drop shadow, but still the problem with unwanted rasterizing of type persisted! It turned out, that on two vector logos i had enabled outer glow, but set it to 0% opacity (didn't use it at all :). Once disabled, the issue was completely solved. What a headscratcher, ey?
  2. Very useful info, thx! I have the feeling this is one of those Affinity bugs quirks we have to live with, for now. I remember my disappointment when i discovered that APhoto can't show the backside of a 2D transform like Photoshop does... But still, for now Designer/Publisher save me upgrading to the big Adobe subscription, and this is welcome.
  3. Thank you so much, Lagarto! That was exactly the culprit for the problem. I don't even know what this feature does, and don't understand why it is enabled by default in the first place, if it does so much damage. :shrug: Never could've found this on my own...
  4. Hey Dan, i appreciate your help. Here's the situation: When i remove the background image, the text exports as text. When i remove some of the text, the remaining text exports as text as well. So i need to send you the file mostly intact. I just changed the background image, removed the names and shuffled the text together. The ZIP file contains the screenshots as well. I'm very curious about your opinion.
  5. Thanks for the workaround, i'll try it out next time. I often switch between the apps in Publisher - to paint into a mask in Photo, to do some shape related stuff in Designer etc, so i'm quite used to it. EDIT: Duh! I almost overlooked your other info. I didn't know i can rotate the view, that's exactly what i needed in the first place (instead of changing the orientation of the spread). Wow, talk about complicating things, LOL...
  6. Do you mean that if i send the PDF with landscape orientation, it wouldn't be a problem? Sorry, i just don't know the technicalities, and the info material from the printing service only showed vertical orientation.
  7. Thanks! Yes, i used the term wrong. By "vector" i mean "not rasterized". I usually don't embed fonts, but export text as shapes, just to be sure nothing changes at the printer's side. And yeah, all my objects are done natively in Publisher. No passthrough. BTW, opening the PDF back in Publisher shows the text blurry (rasterized) like it does in Acrobat Reader.
  8. I just did a test like yours, on a new document, and had exactly the same result as yours - text is vector! When i export the document i did with the previous version, the text is rasterized in the PDF. Same settings for both tests. What do you mean by "PDF placed for passthrough"? I don't know how to proceed. I need to find the issue, so it doesn't happen in the future. Could you please suggest some ideas what to look for? UPDATE: Using an image background and grouping the type layers don't seem to affect the result. Text is still exported as vector.
  9. Sounds like a bug. The version before 1.10 had this problem as well, i checked weeks ago. As of v1.9, i'm not sure.
  10. I'm trying to figure out what's going wrong. Every time i export a PDF for my printing service provider (PDF-X4), type is rasterized instead of staying vector. Usually i convert fonts to shapes on export, but i tried embedding the used fonts - same issue. As a last resort i got rid of the drop shadows i had on the type, and behold - type was indeed vector after export. Is this a bug? Why does using shadows forces type to be rasterized? Usually you rasterize only the shadows onto the image layer and retain the vector shapes of the type - at least that's what i did when i exported PDFs manually from Photoshop. I hoped that Publisher would do it automatically for me, but obviously it doesn't. Am i missing something? Or doing something completely wrong?
  11. I just did a job for a 21.0x10.5cm flyer that is horizontal, but the print service only does vertical flyers. Following this thread's advice, i switched the orientation temporarily to landscape, created a complex layout with two pages, and a couple days later when i wanted to export a PDF for the printer i met a shocking surprise. When i rotated the spreads back to portrait, the content did NOT rotate. I had to manually rotate the content 90° and it still was off (not centered!). Very disappointing. Do you guys have any idea what's up with this? I'm using v1.10.
  12. Sadly. If anyone would for some reason look up my previous posts, it would quickly become obvious that i've had issue after issue with Affinity in the past. I'm not a hobbyist and need tools that i can rely on. Why i thought i could leave the Adobe ecosystem idk, but in hindsight, it was a bad decision. I'm back on Photoshop already, and who knows if i won't be needing Illustrator in the foreseeable future...
  13. Yeah, that explains why my whole workflow falls apart right now. I'm on a deadline, and can't export the vectors i need. Oh well, since Designer doesn't have a Trace Bitmap function, i'll have to vectorize with Inkscape again and reimport into Designer/Publisher...
  14. Oh, and another question, if you don't mind: Do vector brushes not export as vector shapes when i export a PDF for printing?
  15. I'm afraid you're right. How to solve my following problem then? Maybe you'll have an idea for a workaround. I have to print this logo (that i did w- vector brushes) on a huge banner. The problem is that the dimensions are so big that the strokes get too thin (we know that Designer sadly doesn't scale up the brushes when you scale up the layer...) I tried to export to all possible file formats, but can't get to export shapes - it always rasterizes. Could you suggest an idea how to get the logo this big, without having to rasterize?
  16. Hey guys. I've made a logo with vector brush strokes, and i need to make shapes out of the strokes. I select the curve layers that house the strokes, then apply "Expand stroke" from the menu. And... nothing happens - the layer(s) get(s) deselected, and i still have strokes. What am i missing?

  18. BUG 1: After opening 2 images simultaneously i want to switch back to the other one with CTRL+SHIFT+TAB. Nothing is happening. I have to press the same key combo a second time to get the application to react to my input. ---------------------------------------------------- BUG 2: After opening 10-20 images simultaneously, the last opened image is shown (like expected). Then i hit CTRL+TAB to switch to the next tab (being the last, it should wrap to the first tab automatically). But it switches to the 4th or 5th tab from the left. I get the feeling the tab switching is unpredictable. --------------------------------------------------- Can you guys reproduce these issues?
  19. Chris, unfortunately there is no choice to disable parallel processing globally (for opening multiple files). Or is it? And if you advise to disable it when batch processing, why not make it the default? We all know that Affinity still doesn't remember tool and filter settings (i hope this gets adressed in v2.0 ), so it's easy to forget to untick it and freeze the application.
  20. I attached the most recent one (from yesterday when i did the test), i hope it helps. My thoughts about this issue: I have sometimes freezes when i batch process with "parallel processing" enabled. I learned that i need to disable it (i wish Photo would remember my selection!), and the reason is simple: i use a normal hard disk for my files. With parallel processing the app tries to access multiple files at the same time and everything actually gets slower. Parallel processing of files is meant for SSDs, not for HDDs. I suspect this as a culprit for the crashes when opening and closing many files. IMO parallel processing should be an option that the user can disable. That could probably take care of another issue - not keeping the order of the files when opening multiple ones: But this is probably a topic for the request forums. edb019fc-e018-4509-befc-bcba900a1c84.dmp
  21. OK, i did the test. I did 4 batches of ~40 images (1300px wide, with 2-4 adjustment layers each). I simulated my usual workflow, but without any editing (if i edit, i think the issue happens sooner). 1- selecting images in explorer 2- "open" from context menu, waiting for loading and until CPU goes down from 100% 3- going through all images and resetting zoom to 100% because images are shown to fit by default (very bad behavior! just imagine editing icons or similar small stuff!) 4- closing everything down one by one (because there is no "close all" functionality in aPhoto, unfortunately) 5- back to step 1 for the next batch The memory utilization in Task Manager never got above 35-40%. BUT, on the 4th batch the program crashed (closed silently) while loading the images. And to answer your question: Yes, if i close and reopen the program regularly i can prevent those crashes. But that's not a workaround i can accept as someone who uses this software professionally.

  23. Thanks for getting back with the official info. I did post already in the bug section. When the program crashed multiple times, a crashpad_handler.exe connected to the internet - i hope it transmitted some relevant data to you about the crashes.
