  1. Exactly, that is what I hoped would have been done. I now have the dilemma how to respond to my fellow B&W photographers when they enquire about AP. The sad thing is that apart from this one glitch we can do all that we could do in Photoshop with a little bit of give and take.
  2. OK, I found the tool and agree that the size may be changed in steps and I am happy with that. However, how do I use this in conjunction with the info palette set to LAB and how do I leave a mark on the image at the place picked?
  3. No, I was not aware that there was one. I will look immediately and, if it is as you say, then you have my apologies.
  4. I am very disappointed because this means that one of the proceedures I want to use in my workflow cannot be used. I am beginning to get frustrated that simple things like this, common place in Photoshop, cannot be implemented in AP. In my opinion the picker is useless and might just as well not be there. I agree with owenr that it would be ideal to be able to choose the area covered by the picker. All those who need to be able to measure the data on a single pixel on a regular basis please explain why and when.
  5. I believe that there was a request made several weeks ago for the area selected by the picker be increased from 1 pixel to 3x3 pixels. Could I be told, please, whether this has been done? Thank you.
  6. Sorry, to be a pain, I have just discovered the buttons on the top right hand side to switch the clipping indicators on and off. All is well.
  7. Starting to use the latest version on my iMac and have immediately hit a problem. In the previous version clipping areas were marked blue or red but not any more. Is there something that I need to set or is this a bug?
  8. Thank you for clarifying the situation, I'm disappointed but I can manage.
  9. MEB, they are marked with an asterisk (*) and, near the top on the LH side it says * Tested/checked with Affinity Photo 1.6. This i took to mean that although they did not work with the commercially available Affinity Photo they would work with the new version soon to be released, I hope. If this is not the case then I agree that your indicator needs changing.
  10. I note from the list of plugins that v1.6 supports MacPhun Creative Kit, does this mean that the current beta version also supports this plugin? I own a copy of this software and would like to use it with AP. If the beta version does support this software would it be worthwhile changing to the beta version and are there any special instructions on the loading of MacPhun CK, please.
  11. You raise some interesting points, owenr and I rarely, if ever, adjust contrast at the develop stage. I think I will be able to get what I want using the AP develop persona but, if and when I get stuck, I'll be back.
  12. Thank you, I have seen those buttons and noted how they show clipped areas on the image. If there are no clipped areas but, from the histogram, there is room to push the highlights and or shadows, would one then use the brightness and blackpoint sliders to do this?
  13. As I mentioned in a previous post, my colour perception is not very good and, therefore, my RAW images are converted to black and white after they have been developed to my satisfaction. I have been using Adobe Camera Raw and it is very simple, to my eyes, to set the black and white points and I would like to know if there is any simple yet accurate way of setting these two points in AP? The training videos have been very helpful in many ways but not on this subject.
  14. Thank you very much indeed for this quite comprehensive answer and, as I think it better to start with a flatter image, the tone curve stays off.
  15. I have observed that in the Develop Assistant in the Develop Persona there is the option to apply or ignore a Tone Curve to the image when it is first developed from the RAW file. Could someone please explain the objective of this tone curve? I ask because my colour perception is rather poor and I intend to convert the developed images to black and white after development and it is important to me that the black and white points are set correctly.
  16. I am sorry but I have to disagree about the image size unless I have accidentally chosen a special case. Using a rule I measured the dimensions of the same image on the AP screen and the NIK Color Efex screen and they were both the same.
  17. Surely, if you click on the green button, top left, the NIK screen becomes full size and is the same as the AP screen.
  18. Thank you R C-R for the explanation. Do you think that it might be a good idea if it were possible to be able to choose whether to keep or throw away the cropped portion of the image because, presumably, throwing away the cropped portion would help to reduce the file size?
  19. One thing I have noticed is if the image has been cropped before using NIK Silver FX Pro the uncropped image appears in the plugin but when the image returns to AP it is as cropped.
  20. Thank you for your comment, JR, you could be right, more experiments to try.
  21. E C-R, I use VueScan as the scanning software and it purports to give a RAW output. I don't think it's a true RAW but I use it. My trials so far have shown me that these files open directly in the Photo Persona and that all is well when transferred to the Develop Persona. More experimenting is called for and I am sure that the results will be what I am seeking, it is just a case of working out the best workflow.
