  1. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something funky here as the use case is dead simple.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. file >new (Print, A4, RGB 8 bit, Transparent background)
    2. Layer > new layer
    3. select paint brush tool
    4. click and drag on canvas

Something real weirds going on because in step 4 - no paint gets left on the canvas.

What am I doing here? So basic, and so frustrating that I can't get it to work...

    cheers,

    lstocky

p.s. the pixel tool works, just not the regular paint brush tool

Instead of a solid white Outer Glow FX, you could use a solid white Outline FX to get a sharp smooth edge.

Alternatively use a white stroke on the text, but to get a shadow that's identical to that of the first option, the shadow will instead need to be on an underlying unstroked duplicate of the text.

(There are terrible stair steps on the diagonals of the red text rendered by Ps, by the way.)

    Now we're talking.

Bingo - thank you. I recall experimenting with the 'outline' but evidently I didn't experiment enough!

As I mentioned above, I hadn't noticed the edges on the letter 'A'. In fact the edges of the red lettering is far superior in AD.

    - BTW I had only mentioned PS, not as a superior tool, but purely for context. :-)

Thank you all for your help.

The first thing I noticed was the difference in how the letter "A" was rendered -- with jagged edges in the PS version but not in the AD one. That suggests an equivalent process was not used for both, or they are rendered at different pixel resolutions, or something else distorted this comparison.

Do you know of any reason for that difference?

I hadn't noticed the edges on the letter 'A' - well spotted. Unfortunately I can't recall how I created the previous effects in PS, it was a long time ago. And I don't have PS any more to investigate.

Try backing off your intensity. :)

Oh, shame on me.... It's your first post. WELCOME to the forum!

Thank you for the welcome :-).

Reducing the intensity only shrinks the white edge which is not what I want. Indeed, I can't forgo the size of the white edge/glow as that is what I am working to, from the other text - 'Hannah' for example.

  5. I'm getting some jagged edges on the outer glow effect.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Place some text using Artistic Text Tool
    2. Add Outer Glow Effect
      1. Opacity 100%
      2. Radius 52%
      3. Intensity 100%

Note the jagged edges around the outer glow.

Depending on your background you may need to:

    a. enable Outer Shadow

    b. Colour - Black

    c. then adjust so the edges of the Outer Glow can be seen

Notice in the attached image the difference between the rendering in Affinity Designer and PS.

Any ideas if this is a bug or limitation?

    thanks
