  1. Not really - it gives you a starting point, no more and no less. You can tweak it as much as you like.
  2. I never said PS did not have raw editing capabilities, what I said was LR is a dedicated raw editor (and none destructive at that). It is ACR plus. AP is not a dedicated raw editor it is a PS type of editor that has raw functionality up to a point. Not sure what using PS has to do with it but for what it is worth I always use it for content aware fill. To be honest I Use LR and PS far more than I use AP. For raw editing LR wins hands down for me and more often that not gives me the results I need. Of course we could also say Adobe Bridge is a raw editor as it can also access ACR.
  3. I am sure that Serif staff on behalf of the company have said no to Linux, it is not just "us". The reaction here I think is born of the frustration that this matter has not been allowed to rest there. If I were a mod on this Forum I would have killed this thread long ago; it adds nothing to what is a user forum.
  4. Nope Linux does not support the software for the software is written but cannot run on Linux. Simples really - Linux cannot run stuff written for Windows or Mac. Of course the devs could port the software across but they do not want to, they are happy having their market in Windows/Mac. That is a business decision. Of course, none of this stops a business moving across into the Linux world if there is a commercial driver but I do not see that happening in respectof people like Serif. I gave Linux up for that reason - there were no mainstream software companies developing apps for Linux, at least not the apps I wanted. The open source alternatives did not meet my requirements and/or took far too long to develop. I therefore exercised choice and moved away.
  5. You have elected to use a system that does not support the software you wish to run. That is your choice and it is therefore your problem. If you need the software that much move to Windows or Mac. I played with Linux for years, ran it for a while as my main desktop and finally ditched it because it could not run the software I needed.
  6. Then move on, you are using the wrong software. Affinity never had a Dam so I cannot understand why you feel that it is missing. Capture One is good stuff sure so go and pay the price of owning it. And remember AP is not a dedicated raw editor so again why do you expect it to be so? Affinity is more like Photoshop. I have no issues loading raw into Develop but I am not using Fuji X, which has created problems all around so far as I can see ( I am on Nikon).
  7. Didix, given you are in the main happy with your jpegs and just wish to tweak raw files when you are not, do you not think that the likes of AP are perhaps overkill for your needs? LR would probably be ok but it is part of a larger suite of programs now so probably not really for you.
  8. Why is it not fair? Affinity is not developed for Linux, never has been and apparently never will be. You chose Linux of your own free will and the consequence is you cannot run Affinity. You cannot run Phptoshop, Lightroom, CaptureOne and many other pieces of software either - is that unfair?
  9. Are you disabling the automatic curve before editing the raw? It makes the image look worse initially but increases latitude for editing (this approach works in some cases). That is a pretty difficult image the highlights and shadows are a bit extreme so you may need more than just the highlight and shadow sliders to make it useful. I cannot ague in that I have always found LR raw develop module better than AP but AP's has always worked for me with some effort.
  10. Out of interest, why and how do you find Affinity lacking? I have found highlight and shadow adjustments to raw fine of late. I usually turn off the automatic curve adjustment first.
  11. Well if on Mac there is Neofinder - not free.
  12. Nothing of course, which applies to just about the entire thread. Like it or not, Serif have said they are not developing for Linux so that as they say is that :-)
  13. XnView (Windows and Mac) is free and displays a thumbnail from AP files (don't know re Designer). It is also a very powerful bit of kit, especially given the price :-)
  14. What is strange is if I filter on image files .afphoto files do not display whilst .lmnr filers, which are not images, do?
  15. Thank you - that is quite possible a game changer for me and my relationship with AP. All I need now is for a none destructive Develop layer and I'm home and dry. Incidentally, will Adobe Bridge read afphoto files?
  16. Cannot get XnView to show thumbnails for .afphoto files. Am I missing a trick?
  17. Have tried search but come up with nothing. Does Topaz Studio run ok as a plugin to AP and if so how do I install it? Many thanks
  18. Thanks all. Is there anywhere that gives me a step by step guide on how to get Topaz Studio running?
  19. By way of update, have tried this with the Self engine and the Apple engine. It is better on Apple but by no means great. Thanks :-)
  20. Specs attached. User accounts make no difference. I get this problem on no other software so doubt its a spec thing, or if it is it is due to the way Affinity is put together. Should mention that it is the drawing of gradient masks that is the real nightmare. It is absolutely perfect out side of the raw editor though and even the blockiness is very light, if at all. So, it appears to be the raw workspace.
  21. Thanks MEB. Not a lot of difference, if any, unfortunately. Still blocky and when dragging gradients the lag is sufficient to make one believe it is not working. I have done all you suggested and am now running on Metal as well.
  22. Jumping on this thread. Same here, Affinity Photo is basically unusable on my late 2017 iMac, especially so in the raw editor. Dragging out gradients takes an age - it is laggy and not nice to use whilst changes with the sliders is blocky and jerky. Sorry but altogether an awful experience. PS on the other hand flies. Is there something I am missing? Thanks :-)
  23. This also happens with images created via ON1 Raw 2018. So perhaps it is an Apple bug? I am now considering ditching Apple Photos, but then it also happened when I saved up to SmugMug. What is strange with ON1 is that if I upload the image from inside Finder to Photos it works. If I load direct from ON1 it does not. I also use Affinity so this bug is of interest to me.
  24. Great update guys, many thanks. This may be an Apple Issues but when editing images held in Apple Phots with Affinity via Edit In I get this - I send a raw (nef) file to Affinity and end up with a tiff in Affinity (Not too bad but would prefer RAW). I send a tiff from Apple Photos and end up with a jpeg in Affinity (not acceptable). Is there a reason for this behaviour? If it is unavoidable it probably renders the idea of using Apple Photos redundant, which is a great shame. Thank you Colin
