  1. thanks. Yes that is a good idea to export the assets. I have a program with leaky memory. I've used it for years and keep thinking that the new versions will fix their memory problems but this is a new computer and I just bought their new version and found that it has the same old problems. (shut down the program and later I have issues so I go into task manager and find that it is still running!) Yes,I go into admin and turn off a TON of garbage. Thanks for you fast answer. Sig
  2. I have been watching a bunch of video tutorials and ended up with more questions than what any of them answered. Basically they told me the how to use but not enough info. In almost all the videos, they made it seem like this was mostly for web designers. I only work in print, can I not use this if I work at 300dpi? I have NO use for any IOS anything. If I delete all the assets that came with the program, can I later get them back if I ever find a need for them? If assets are available every time I open the program, if I had a lot will it slow down the program? Will it be using more CPU resources? I often have several graphics programs open and the web browser, so I have run my computer out of working memory before and am concerned about the impact of assets being there every time. Thanks Sig
  3. I open an eps file. But it isn't where I can easily find it. It is way off somewhere not visible. Here are some screen shots to show you what is happening. Question is WHY is it doing this? Can't this be "fixed" so that it is opening in the center? The white area is very very magnified. But look how far I have to zoom out in order to even find the graphic to drag it in to where I can work with it or even see it.
  4. I don't think they are grouped. It just says layer and then everything is listed under that as curve. Oh well.
  5. thanks for the email telling me about it. I voted. Sig
  6. When I buy vector clip art with a commercial license it usually comes in the form of an eps file. Usually all the designs are on one "page". I am finding it very time consuming and hair pulling to isolate what I want from that. I can't "draw a box" around it because it selects everything (the whole "page"). Say I bought 20 cats. They are all on one main layer and I want only one cat. Sometimes I can click on something in the layers panel and when that itty bitty dot is selected I can then click on the cat I want and get one itty bitty little dot in the right cat to be highlighted. From there I can "show in layers". Then I have to hold down the shift key and randomly select a bunch of layers (we are talking so many I have to scroll a lot in the layers panel) and hope I got all the cat. Often I don't and then I have to go through the whole mess again. (Yes, I am smart enough to first group what I found that was correct and then label it so I can find that part again). And more maddenly, the entire cat may not be on sequential layers. But my question is, why can't I surround that cat and have it be selected. Even at the highest magnification I can not directly select on the image - it will select the whole page. Why can't I zoom in until just that cat is showing and then click on it to select just a piece of it? Like what someone here told me to do when I couldn't seem to select just one node to move (it was just moving the handles until I zoomed in a ridiculous amount so I could isolate the node itself)
  7. I can import PS brushes, can I import the shape files? I downloaded what I was told were vector files and they all turned out to be csh files. How can I use them? Thanks BTW, my other question is about text envelopes. In OLD versions of my Serif programs one thing I used a lot was the great text envelopes. Is there a way to use the shapes with text to make an envelope? Right now I am bouncing back and forth between a few programs to get the text the way I want. I would prefer to do it all in Affinity Designer if I could. thanks Sig
  8. ok, got it. weird way to do it but I hit "buy" and then I found the sign in box so I could scroll to the bottom of the page and find the link to my account. There it showed all the products I've bought and under Affinity Designer it listed the latest version and not the one I originally bought. So starting over now. geesh. maybe a simple sign in link at the bottom for "returning customers"?
  9. link please? I got the notice about 1.6.3 and installed it. BIG mistake. I can no longer run the program at all. every time it starts I get the box that says update available - ok/download. It doesn't matter what I click, the program instantly closes. I did a "repair" - no change. So now I am doing a complete uninstall. I don't know what happened but 1.6.3 just didn't work for me. Sig
  10. guess those pixels are really there. When I added a layer of white at the bottom, it looked almost like a shadow in that area. So strange. I think I finally got rid of them in another program.
  11. I drew the design in designer as vector. Then added a few pixel layers so I could "paint" in some texture. Grouped all the vectors and then did a selection from layer. Invert selection. Went to each of my pixel layers and hit delete to get rid of the overspray. But no matter what I try - editing in photo (from file menu), using the eraser brush (both programs), or hitting delete, I can't get rid of these weird pixels in the background. So I saved as PSD and took it into another program and that program does not show these pixels! Are they really there or not? I can't print this as it is way to big for a home printer. And if they are there, how the bleep do I get rid of them? If they aren't really there, then why am I seeing them? I need to be in Designer and add text to finish off the design. I guess I could finish it and then export as PSD again and take into another program and resave it out from there as the PNG that I need for final submission. Driving myself nuts today with this. BTW I love how I can go back and forth between Designer and Photo with the file menu. That was very slick. Sig
  12. that is what I was expecting to happen but it didn't no matter how many times I tried, it would just move one node. Oh well. will try again later. Now I am arguing with the program because it did exactly what I wanted and what I expected the first time, now I need to repeat the technique and the program just will not do it.. Maybe I just need to restart it. It is getting extremely slow. Thanks Sig
  13. It was more work to tweak each individually since it kept changing the width of the shape. If it was a true line - that would have worked but this is a shape and so I had both sides to deal with. Just highlighting a bunch and then trying to move by clicking and dragging would only move the one the cursor was on and not the group.
  14. See pic The swash is interfering with the graphic. I would like to take all the selected nodes and first move them as a group and then go back and tweak their placement. So far I have been unable to find a way to move them as a group. Is there a way to do this? Thanks Sig
  15. ok I think I've got it now. Not the way I've ever seen a brush work before. But if I draw the line first - which for some reason defaults to a dashed line. Then I turn it solid, then I hit the brush 64, it applies it to the line. As long as I understand HOW to make it work, I will adapt. It just didn't work the way I expected and so my results were all over the place and confusing me to no end. Sig
  16. ok. that is great for the future to stop me from screwing up again. Now how to I fix what I messed up? Is there a way? when I hit "edit brush" it looks like it should but it sure isn't working right. Sig
  17. ok, I was drawing a line using brush 64. I guess I should have left it alone and added a color overlay, but instead, I hit the color and changed it to what I wanted. After that I did not get the same effect. The brush was only 13.1 wide and not that fuzzy distressed look. I ended up just copying in the one line that was the way I wanted and pasting and rotating them into place. No matter what I tried I couldn't get the brush back the way it was. In fact, the more I tried, the worse things got until I had probably 6 brush 64s in the menu. I gave up and rebooted the computer. Started the program back up and I still can't get that brush back the way it was. Now it is .06 wide and just a black line. Obviously I have messed up something somewhere somehow. How do I fix this? What did I do wrong before (so I don't do THAT again)? Sig eye is the one where I got the first set of lines like I wanted after doing copy and paste. why is what is happening now after a reboot.
  18. I was very interested in this: http://tinyurl.com/ybd2jhgp But I wasn't sure it would work in Affinity Designer so I wrote to the creator and this is the answer I got: Unfortunately, I haven't converted this one to Affinity as it's pattern brush feature isn't accurate enough to make the brushes as good as I’d like. If they improve it in the future I'll definitely make an Affinity version. So is this something that is being worked on? Or is there something like these brushes out there that do work with Affinity Designer? Sig
  19. I had to get a new computer and reinstall Designer. Now every time I start the program I get a box that says: Windows Security Warning Scripts are usually safe. Do you want to allow scripts to run? Yes No I have to answer before I can use the program. Very annoying. I didn't have this on my old computer. What scripts are they talking about? I had asked earlier if there was an ability to add in a macro (script) to automate things and was told no. So what scripts am I allowing? Is this from brushes I've added? I can't think of anything else I added to the program. Can I add things? Like adobe actions? confused Sig
