  1. Affinity Photo 1.6.5.123/Windows 10 64 bit This looks on the face of it like a bug but am not sure. A photo (pixel base layer) and a single curves adjustment in LAB mode working in 16 bit - if the AOpponent and BOpponent curves are set down to nothing i.e. desaturating the image, AF should according to me, produce a black and white image representing only the luminance. However I get a monotone image in some shade of blue. It doesn't matter whether the document format is RGB or LAB, I get the same result. Incidentally the behaviour is exactly the same in beta release 1.7.0.243. Is this a bug? Any advice about what is going on would be appreciated. Nigel
  2. I was thinking earlier of just the absolute basics but of course a fully featured SmartCurves would be fantastic. This is partially referenced in thread 76455: where the ability to save and load presets is requested. That would be so handy for alternative processes ...
  3. Hello, I would also like to see this feature implemented for precisely the reasons that mrenters described in the initial post. In the Blend Options panel of a layer it's possible to put in a large number of points and specify the input/output values for each one. It doesn't seem, on the face of it, to be be very difficult to implement this idea for the curves adjustment as well. Please, someone in the know at Serif, would you consider implementing this or putting on the roadmap? Nigel
  4. Hello Pšenda Thank you. That was very helpful. It's also helped me to understand luminosity masks at the sam time! Nigel
  5. Hello, I'm looking at blend modes and trying to understand the following (clicking on the cogwheel): - what the 2 graphs "Source Layer Ranges" and "Underlying Composition Ranges" actually do/represent - what the "coverage Map" does/represents. I haven't figured them out yet. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks, Nigel
  6. I apologise if this is covered elsewhere but I haven't been able to find an existing thread. I edit monochrome documents i.e. B+W a lot. When working with a document in colour then Affinity Photo has no problems displaying the usual colours for masks, selections etc even when a B+W conversion has been done. However, when a document is set to monochrome from the beginning, then all masking, selections etc is displayed as a shade of grey. Sometimes, depending on the background this can be difficult to see on screen and I find it it especially difficult with clipping warnings (a group with special blend modes I have set up to replace the inexplicable absence of the buttons in the Photo persona). I was wondering if it is possible to continue displaying masking, selections, clipping warnings etc in colour for monochrome documents?
  7. Hi Gary, Me too! Macros are definitely the way to go. I did add one extra feature to my "Clipping" group, and that is a soft proof adjustment which should show any out of gamut colours which are not extremes. It can be set to whichever gamut the picture is destined for e.g. sRGB for the web, or the icc profile of my own monitor to see what it misses when I go editing in curves for example.
  8. Hello Lingwood, I completely agree with you! And of course showing clipped shadows and intermediate colours too. I have searched in vain for this feature in the Photo persona and I can't understand why it hasn't been included. If any knowledgeable people are reading this, it would be nice to know the reason. Or perhaps there's another method?
