Thanks for supplying the extra info’.
In this case I would probably do as Wosven suggests by clipping a grey rectangle (maybe with some transparency to let the pink through a bit) inside the text layer as it will be easier to adjust than using a gradient, but that’s just my personal preference in this specific instance.
I’ve attached a short video showing the process.
