Less than 2 seconds. Arrow keys are easy to find and use. How many fonts do you use that needs the arrow keys? Create Text Styles and you will be quicker next time. Until we get a search field this is nothing in contrast to real problems.

    @ Serif

Daniele Salvatore stated “colour of the icon will have a great difference when they are activated (now there is not a substantial difference and this make very-very difficult to understand their status)”.

Seems that will not be improved in the first Beta, right?

    Even worse …?!

Haven’t you heard the users?  :(

    Please, why?

No, because there is no Affinity Publisher and it seems there will be no launch the next ten months.

The PDF method results in a large amount of work if the layout, the tables of contents and/or the footnotes have to be changed.

But perhaps there will be a converter app.

Because some are waiting tooooooooo long for better rulers including a “change origin point” feature,
we made a flexible ruler for dm, Berthold points, Pica points, Didot points, DTP Cicero and other units that you can change easily for your own needs just in seconds. Even if you need furlong, light-nanoseconds, Fournier point … no problem.

Now you can have many rulers with different units at the same time. And they even can measure curves. Some backgrounds can be found somewhere.

Have fun and help to improve Affinity apps.

    Thank you sooooo much, Oval,
    This is really very useful.
I tried out the UPD version, but it seems the cm+mm ruler doesn't work, the others do.
    Perhaps I'm using it wrong.
    Could you post a short how-to ??
    Thanks again, excellent work !

Here are some rulers I created.
I came across this post while searching.

Attached are some rulers I created.
The accuracy is as good as I could get it, based on AffDes. own rulers.
    File Ruler LSC = Landscape.
Ruler is in centimers, divisions in mm.
Document size = A4, rulers extend beyond document edges from zero point outwards.
To use : open document, select >copy the Ruler Group itself to your own document, then paste.
To move the zero point: select the ruler group & move
To position the ruler in portrait : select rulergroup & transform the group 90 deg.
Colors can be changed by selecting the entire group, then pick a new color.
They can be used in AFDes & AFPhoto
    Hope this helps,
    Feel free to implement improvements.

Oval got a reaction from AffinityJan in My logo, which one do you prefer?
If you don’t make a concept, this will end in art and not something that is strong. Don’t think about what you like but what your clients need. One rule is that a logo is clear (because it must be understood quickly and survive between others). For example ask why a circle and is it really so much more important than N and D (D stands for your Name and Design and …). So why not a (rounded) rectangle that stands for the hardware (screens) you create things for? First: make a concept. What you want to communicate (show) with the logo and much later (second) play with the forms that communicate what you do/sell.

If you only want to work for clients that work in the natural area, then you could start with a technical font/glyphs for example and change it to a natural style.

Most of your drafts have filigree forms. Try it with more power/strength/thickness.

Ask (yourself/many people) what your new drafts (should) communicate (fashionable, dynamic, static, strong, thin, serious, …).

HTH a bit [corporate design is too complex to fit in this forum]

Sorry, without knowing what you do, work, sell, think … and what the concept is, it doesn’t make sense to suggest something specific.

Not difficult to create logos with any letters for professionals. Please read a suitable book before you start, because the logo is the most important element of corporate design.

A cool blue would be cool for a cool logo and gradients are mostly not a good idea for logos.

Not a good idea to think about what fits on websites. Good idea to think about what fits to the things you do.

Did not critique, just telling facts. But if you only Interpret in one way: If somebody is saying that he designs stunning stuff and he shows something else, his needs for linked text in Affinity Designer get implausible.
It wasn’t said that you have to use other apps. But only the market pressure (this is what was meant) could change the decision of Serif not to add features like linked text "directly” into Affinity Designer.    This (topic) is about the Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.5.5 - Beta 1) and it does not really make sense to discuss those Affinity Publisher features here (more for bugs and thanks) because you already knew that they will need time (until 2017 / 2018 [Affinity Publisher]).

Just completed my first digital painting with AP. Here is my feedback:

The new pressure-controls-opacity brush (accumulation jitter) is wonderful if you adjust the pressure curve, thank you!
Small 'pointillism' style marks are difficult because there is a delay between pressing down with the Wacom pen and the mark being created. The little flecks in the attached image took longer than necessary as I had to wait every time I wanted a small dot/fleck which gave me hand cramps. If anything could be done to increase the speed at which paint marks the canvas this would be a great painting program, however the delay will probably put people off as things stand currently. Regardless, a fantastic program I am very happy with the purchase, thanks!

    Hi Stokestack,
This particular issue is already logged to be looked at. I understand that there's still some limitations and issues to address but the dev team is also relatively small and it's already working as fast as they can to fix/polish the issues reported. In programs with the complexity of these this may take some time. Please bear with us while we get there. We want them to be as good as we possibly can too.

For a better usability, please change at least the light colour of the search text (or/and of the top right search field) and change the colour or add a symbol like  for iOS or macOS contents. Could be done in less than 0.125 cat minutes.

    Hi DavidMac
I've just tried this with the Pen tablet and the area is indeed too small to be easily reached without requiring much attention/precision. I'm passing this to the dev team to see if it can be improved a little.
    Thanks for your feedback.

    Problem with joining points.

As for the pathfinder, it’s the same issue with expanding strokes: it makes way too many points. It’s impossible to trust its results. I always need to check back and manually fix its mistakes. And if I miss one, that may mean redoing hours of work (I rely on pathfinder for extremely complex shapes). Affinity Designer is marketed as being extremely precise, but most times I do an operation that requires precision, it fumbles. It’s hands down the most imprecise vector tool I’ve ever used regularly.

The teams is aware of these two problems, yet solving them is not on the roadmap. I’d say the basics should be fixed before even thinking about adding more features.

I just bought AD, and when I saw this in the video, I really believed that it was about vector patterns. Can this be called "misleading advertising"?

Patterns are basic elements of design, please fix this, please add vector patterns fill.

While waiting for Publisher I rebuilt one of my customer's Indesign files in Affinity Designer. I'd say it is almost pixel perfect, typography is fine, effects are fine, and I have something I couldn't even dream of in Indesign: a document grid that is rotated by 10 deg (because the whole layout is tilted by that amount).

There are just two problems: the size of the layout file, and the size of the exported PDF.
    - The Indesign layout file is around 3 MB, but the Affinity Designer file is over 70 MB.
    - The PDF that Indesign exports (for print @ 300 dpi) is around 4 MB; the PDF that AD generates is around 12 MB.

I guess AD doesn't link to but rather embeds external files. This is a real problem with larger layouts and many images. The file size of the exported PDF is less of a problem, but still inconvenient because transfer times (for feedback and production) are much longer.

So I am holding my breath for two things: 1) linking to external files in Designer and 2) a truly interchangeable file format between Designer and Publisher. Rebuilding layouts from scratch is OK, but not too many times ;)
