My estimate was overambitious, and this will probably not be this year now, sorry. I will see if I can get a more accurate timeline. I think we are also plannig how to present it on the website & shop. We don't want to sell the German one to users (even from Germany) who would rather buy English, so the buy links need careful thought. Too many returns and all the profit has gone.
Many thanks for the updates. Less to do for Santa, more for the easter bunnies.
If they had the file(s) since 16 days that means more than one month! What went wrong? Printed in China or where?

It's with the printers now, so yes, 2nd or 3rd week of December I should think
16 days later with the printers, can all German prospective customers get a more accurate hint for their Santa Claus, please? ;)

All of us have been waiting ever since Affinity Publisher was announced, so we have all been waiting exactly the same length of time, regardless of which operating system(s) we use. ;)
You think that Windows users are clairvoyants because in 2014 they already knew that Affinity Publisher will be developed for Windows before Serif knew it?
Or you think the Windows version will launch years later than the macOS version.

I doubt you would have this opinion if you were a Windows user.
macOS users can be also Windows users. But some of them like macOS more and are waiting much longer than only-Windows users for Affinity Publisher.

Hm, “might be”. Who answered? Hopefully not a Serif developer … found your topic … well, it’s about “resize method” … answered from MBd. Can’t be nearest neighbour. Hopefully it is something intelligent, at least bilinear. Hm, two weeks ago. Perhaps Serif does want to keep details secret. Try to ask again.
What you see on screen depends on your preferences (bilinear/nearest neighbour, dither, clipping, GPU, …) and this is not the whole process … and often: what you see is not what you get.

Probably this whole discussion had nothing to do about rasterizing scaled images; which is still a grey area in AP mechanism. :rolleyes:

Why this arises is maybe because we are not talking about export quality
It is about export quality: timur needed a file for a website: “I have tried exporting the image and tried all the options on the pop-up box (yes including lanczos).”
“the pictures is 5847x2535”“I am trying to get it to 959x (whatever the equivalent of that is)”“The picture is degraded so bad that I don't want to post it on the website anymore.”“I have full width of screen picture on the website and on the backend it is requesting me to input 950 pixel wide picture which is not the actual size needed.”Even accendare needed a web ready file. -

This was just to avoid misunderstandings. You wrote “I think I found a solution!!!”, but this is not a solution to get better export results or to explain "poor” export. :wub:

Hello everyone, I think I found a solution!!! It is not the image you need to work with. Go to Preferences > Performance > View quality and make sure it is set to Bilinear and not the Nearest Neighbor. Then when you resize the image Affinity keeps the quality and during export it looks perfect as well :) The advice is originally by Gear maker from another line, thanks to him! :)
View Quality influences the view quality, not the export quality. What was discussed was the export quality.

My fingers are not the same as yours. They almost certainly have a different range of motion, different "muscle memories," different ratios of length to girth, & so on. My color vision is likewise different in many respects from the "rule," which is just an empirically derived average anyway. The psychology & to some extent even the physiology of sense perception still isn't that well understood, but we know it involves many areas of the brain as well as the sense organs, is dependent on previous sense experience to correlate patterns, & what we loosely describe as our "state of mind" plays a large part in what we perceive.
This is why there are no rules for the creative process, only conventions. Almost all of them are based on some perceived cultural norm. For example, it should be obvious that the "rules" for typography for phonetic languages are not the same as for pictographic ones, or for languages that are read left to right, top to bottom vs. some other path. We all don't even turn the pages of a book in the same direction. Different cultures don't all attach the same significance to different colors or color combinations -- it is only by convention that yellow is associated with caution or green with go; "patriotic" colors vary enormously around the world; & even red sometimes symbolically represents blood & thus danger but in other contexts can represent the purity of the heart. In most cultures, objects define patterns but in a few it is the space between them that does.
Of course we have different fingers. But there are too many examples of bad usability because rules like the maximum and minimum size of human fingers were ignored!
Our theme was not creativity but basic rules! Again: Very risky if you fly a passenger aircraft creatively, without knowing basic rules.
If you don’t care about the rules that exists in different cultures, you lose your target groups.
There are rules that are different in cultures. And there are cross-cultural design rules. For example ask for the most beautiful rectangle or think of optical illusions.
Bad justified texts with poor quality (poor legibility) exists because basic rules were ignored or unknown.
If someone says there are no rules and thinks typography on signs is the same on books, he will get bad results.

The final letter in the word 'Frame' isn't spaced as per the word 'Lace' is all. Which makes it stand out. I don't know if it is an optical illusion due to screen hinting or not, but it appears to be not equally spaced (I cannot tell if the entire word is spaced with the same spacing values as the word 'Lace' or not). This in turn makes it not so mono-spaced.

You don’t need do fix anything, because we don’t know the purpose of the pictures. If you change the image title (baby, not man), you don’t have to fix the proportions.

I don't think this project is 'how to design a logo' - it's a breakdown of what Neil in our design team created. The logo in this project is in a classic style respecting the heritage of Nottingham's lace industry.. as such monotype lettering is demonstrated, hence the equal spacing. Think wood block printing (then Gutenberg, then typewriters etc.)
Didn’t claim that it is “how to design a logo”. The book says “learn digital design”.On page 320 the learners/readers must »manually space each letter to create an evenly spaced look«. They don’t learn what white space is and how to achieve evenly looking spaced letters. Not with those parallels. What you really want them is to create that unevenly/terribly spaced text “L ACE FR A ME”?! Same with “BEANS” etc.No client wants typography that looks wrong.No recipient knows that this wrongly looking texts are desired. Subconsciously he gets the impression that L. F. is inaccurate.Seems that Serif thinks that the baseline area is decisively important for spacing (see page 319).An amendment for the next print of the book was considered. But cancelled? -

Sorry, but I have read this a number of times and I have no idea what you are referring to on that page. It is a translation of the English page with a note about a German one coming. This page was made before we finished translating the book to German and made some corrections in the English for impression #2. There is little chance of that page changing as the web team have not been told there is anything to change... (not sure what you think is strange our docs team are interested in the book, and not really in the website)
Once we get a German book here I will suggest that we replace those pictures with German equivalents, particularly the keyboard shots which use appropriate DE keyboard layouts.
Other than the book photos and keyboard shortcuts are you saying there is something else to change?
The question concerns the physical book! Those mistakes were communicated three times and an amendment for the next print of the book was considered. Pages like that teach/suggest wrong manual kerning (methods). If it was hopefully changed because it is “with the printers now” it should also be corrected in the sample images here to prevent that people get a wrong impression.

We're still figuring out how best to use it.
For example try a history slider with small previews and the possibility to zoom/pinch into the timeline (same for layers, everything showing with your loved fonts, etc.). Don’t forget the slide gesture that shows the future document! ;)
A slider to change the UI colours ;) and pre-defined panel positions, a panel for colour mixing and creating/editing brushes, new buttons for semi-professionals like undo, redo, …

If you had said, "This topic is about high quality, next-generation design apps for professionals," your context might have been clearer. As stated, the context seemed to be about the entire forum.

If we only pick one sentence or word, we can misunderstand the meaning. Positive interpretation is the best way. We don’t forbid to use SP. And of course we are discussing, but not only in one way, but also in one way.

Silly me. I though we were discussing anything Affinity app users, be they professionals, amateurs, or just occasional users, might find helpful. Did I miss a memo or something? :unsure:
Torn from the context! SP is not used to generate high quality for typesetting because it lacks features like mentioned here. SP is a toy in this relationship. This was discussed with monzo. Not what amateurs don’t want. This topic is about APu which will have those needed features. Belight claims that those features are only (!) available in InDesign. :lol: All professional apps have these needed features for high quality results, SP never had.

Sorry, just used helpful facts. Their last two small fixes for SP were in 2015 and one in the beginning of 2016! It should not be forbidden to tell the truth. But it is a problem to use shortened content and change the whole meaning.

OK, SP is not a toy, it is just indiscutable for professional typesetting. This is the Affinity forum and we are * discussing "high quality, next-generation design apps for professionals” here. Without basic features like optical margin alignment and baseline grid it is not economically to get high quality typography. And even if someone uses SP as a toy or for small pieces: The programmers wanted, but were not able to correct a simple bug within three years, don’t care about features that are unusable in foreign languages.
