  1. If we get modifier key functionality, colours and more indicators the usability of the text styles grows and strange claims like “completely confusing and unusable” hopefully will end.
  2. Perhaps Serif did not stop stating “Affinity Publisher coming soon” because Serif want to stir impatience.
  3. It was the decision (“going to be added … soon”) of Serif. Certainly it is only one part of ruler improvements.
  4. Serif, give us a ping, just a single ping, please.
  5. There are tools if you really need to save seconds.
  6. Less than 2 seconds. Arrow keys are easy to find and use. How many fonts do you use that needs the arrow keys? Create Text Styles and you will be quicker next time. Until we get a search field this is nothing in contrast to real problems.
  7. Typing fast always works if you don’t forget to use the arrow keys. Don’t wear your sunglasses. ;) Joking aside. The new areas have much less contrast to the background than the old dark ones.
  8. But for most people the left selection is visible faster:
  9. @ Serif Daniele Salvatore stated “colour of the icon will have a great difference when they are activated (now there is not a substantial difference and this make very-very difficult to understand their status)”. Seems that will not be improved in the first Beta, right? Even worse …?! Haven’t you heard the users? :( Please, why?
  10. Perhaps you are using an old version. Until we get a search field [already in Feature Requests]: It is easy to get the list of ten needed fonts. Just type the name/the first needed characters and ENTER. Done in seconds if not typed slowly. HTH Feature requests can be added in Feature Requests.
  11. Willkommen hier im Forum, Annetti. Schnellster Weg: 1. JPG oder PNG auf das Programmicon ziehen. 2. Datei ▹ Exportieren… 3. Größe, Vorgabe, Neuberechnung (»Schärfe«) und Mehr checken/ändern. 4. Exportieren und Sichern Ein automatisierter Weg ist beispielsweise über »Export Persona« möglich.
  12. “Nitpicking”? Schools lose money because the planned budget and curricula expire, people leave the suite before it is finished, … but the big problem is not a single “error in timing estimation” but many mistakes that burden the corporate image. Some examples: “Very soon added” features are still not added after two years. Serif claims that Affinity Designer is the “most precise vector graphic design software available”, but other apps are required because basic features like ”Expand Stroke” are not precise and not corrected. “Due in 2015, this publishing thoroughbred will share the precision, speed, quality, and designer-led finesse found in other Affinity titles.” was not a rare single “communication error”: From 2015 until now Serif didn’t change their message “Publisher coming soon“. The launch of iPad apps is announced for 2017 although: “After completing the full suite on the Mac […] we will look into other platforms” “Beta veröffentlichen, und dafür benötigen wir Ihre Hilfe” Three months after the launch the website still states “The Future […] Windows, we’ll be bringing Affinity Photo to that platform too”. … If Serif can’t change those reported tiny errors like the too light text in the search field within 2,5 years, people begin to ask if Serif can improve unprecise features. Can Serif do what Serif announces? Corporate image is important. If Serif doesn’t change some simple (communication) errors, the brand will not gain in credibility.
  13. That’s not the point there. It’s about corporate image and some texts that could be easily corrected. Serif seems to have problems with the infinite improbability drive and the launch of apps; another example: The website still states “[…] Affinity Designer for Windows, we’ll be bringing Affinity Photo to that platform too”.
  14. The big problem is not the delay but how Serif communicates the launch. For example Serif does not change “with Affinity Publisher coming soon” in news/notes to editors.
  15. Until we finally get better rulers, here is a workaround. There is already a ruler for dtp-Cicero, others can be made in seconds. You only need the correct formula for the field “Default Tab Stops”. Just ask if you want to know more about that workaround.
  16. No, not possible (without APu) and would be useless in many cases.
  17. No, because there is no Affinity Publisher and it seems there will be no launch the next ten months. The PDF method results in a large amount of work if the layout, the tables of contents and/or the footnotes have to be changed. But perhaps there will be a converter app.
  18. The price would change. Good luck with a feature request. No: Good luck with a feature request! Comparing Serif (apps and marketing) with others?
  19. That one is a group. You can use the “Vector Crop Tool” to make it bigger/longer or smaller/shorter or just ungroup it. Or use the “Text Tool” (and copy & paste) to change the lenght or the form and colours of the divisions/strokes and digits. Use “Underline” or “Strikethrough” if you need lines. They are also useful for students to understand and see (at a glance) the difference between 48 Berthold points, 48 Didot points, 48 DTP points, 48 Pica points, … Cicero, furlong, fathom, cat, inch, light-nanosecond, mm, dm, feet … also useful to combine many units never been combined before, useful to check (the differences) of book layouts that use old/wrong units, … to print some on a transparent film for easy checks which dimensions/units of an old book were used, … AD was “created for professionals”, so sorry that not every detail is explained. Just ask. The rulers were made in less than five minutes and were made to encourage others to improve them/make new ones. We took no time to design them. Sorry for using Arial. Some zeros could be deleted, better stroke glyphs could be found … many things to improve. But since there was no time, … Hopefully Serif will create the best rulers (with two scales, …) on earth. Please before we have gone.
