    What a grand title!
All day in the making and another "live" composite which steered its own course; I just went with it.

Real easy! All you have to do is copy your finished image, scale down, and place it into the mirror ball ... however, you know that
    Brilliant work! I'm impressed

I too have quite an extensive prog-rock collection - been collecting since the 70's. What with the onset of the digital age I don't collect much anymore I now get the CD versions of albums that I want.

    Oh, I really like this!
The crown for me, so to speak, would be to have the mirrored ball, also mirrored ... ie showing the mirror within the mirrored ball. Make sense?

This would be great as a prog-rock album cover.
I’m already imagining Rick Wakeman wearing a gold cloak and a top hat behind a stack of keyboards.
    Nice work.

Apart from the backdrop (virtually gone) this image was created with photographs of water.
With help from the liquify persona and blend modes I was able to realise this particular visual experiment.

Another couple of my bike illustrations, this time a couple of classic racers that I enjoyed watching on the Isle of Man in the sixties.
Still using a bit too much gausian blur in my illustrations but I like the softer effect it gives.

    Hi John,
This was achieved by using multiple layers.
The first 2 were the standard dispersion techniques using identical layers, one with a white mask, and the other black. Masking out areas with dispersion brushes. The result was then blurred slightly to help the colour merge.
On one layer I used the COLUMN MARQUEE tool on the woman then copied that and stretched it out across to the TV set. (1 vertical row of pixels stretched out).
On one layer I used a ZOOM BLUR on full range and centered it just behind the woman.
On one layer I used the RIPPLE effect on a low setting (just enough to see the waves). OVERLAY BLEND. GAUSSIAN BLUR.
On one layer I used MOTION BLUR on a mid setting.
After that it was a case of adjusting the opacities of all layers until I got the desired result with this picture.
Made a few colour alterations and used a film grain Nik filter on the master.
    Hope that explains it.
EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention; All modified layers were adjusted using the perspective tool so that they all lined up!

Thanks @AffinityJules! It’s actually one of my favorite films. I first saw it years ago when I was a little kid and it really left an indelible mark.
And thanks for the kind words @casterle!!!!
    Here’s the final!

I have been spending the past couple weeks creating the art for an upcoming convention. I decided to color the art in Designer and I really am glad that I’ve made that decision. It’s been fun exploring Designer’s strengths. This is a work in progress, but it by far is the piece I’m most excited about. I have always loved the film, Metropolis and I’m so glad that I get a chance to reference it in my work. I’ll post what the final image looks like.
    Best!

The basic method is very straight forward and there are several video tutorials out there showing the method.
Here's a couple. The top video is for the iPad but the techniques are the same.
