Hey! I've been taking pictures for quite a long time but now I'm more into photo manipulation and retouching. I like the software and its "Live Filters" feature makes the process so much more flexible.
Here are my first composites made in Affinity Photo.
    Hope you enjoy it!

Had a wander around Wollaton Hall on a rainy day
Took the original image and croped and straightened then used the Haze removal to make the rain clouds pop and adjusted the levels then applied a detailed tonal map

As already advised you will need to start with the Displacement Filter but after that you can "distress" it further to get whatever result you want.

AffinityJules got a reaction from jmwellborn in Enhancing a bad picture taken with a bad phone camera
There's literally loads of ways to enhance a picture, it all depends on what end result you want; it's mainly down to personal choice.
My edits used several adjustment layers.
HSL targeting the reds and greens.
Selective colour adjustment to modify the stand out colours.
Highlights and shadows adjustment to emphasize the 'wetness.'
    Vibrance adjustment.
    Curves adjustment to finish off.

An exercise in working in black and white using Affinity Designer. What I need to do is find a few brushes I like and save them in a new folder of favourites as I find there too many options in the standard brushes and I loose track of where I am. I like the sprays and splatters as they give good textures. Need to play around a little more to find pencils/charcoals I like. For this image I sketched an idea in Procreate, then placed it into AD where I created basic vector linework before adding textures in pixel mode. I'd be happy not using colour anyday.

As a matter of observation and nothing else: this picture has got no 'likes' yet has produced the most conversation and 'likes' for the comments. So perhaps in future, I should make pictures that have intentional faults built in, you never know, it might inspire more conversations like this one.

The brush is made from a photograph of an Iris in my yard.    Dutifully selection brush tooled to get extraneous stuff out of the background, then turned into an image brush.    THIS IS FUN!   They shouldn't turn people like me loose on Photo.

Thank you.    Here is a stem-less Siberian Iris to prove that I have progressed somewhat beyond mustard-colored cloud brushes.  Actually managed Selection Brush Tool, etc. and turned it (the flower, not the tool) into an .afbrush.    Peonies to follow.   Then hydrangeas.    Then pansies.   Then . . .    maybe somebody will put me out of my misery.   Having too much fun.
