I just wanted to say hello! I'm kind of new here. I'm a 30-year Adobe user and bought every Affinity product as soon as they came out. But I never really made the switch until Publisher came out with 1.8 and became usable to me. I love Designer and Publisher. They are now my go-to's. I just need a little more time to get comfortable with Photo. Anyhow, I thought I would share with you a couple of vector illustration that I built entirely in Designer. This is something I could never do as well in Adobe Illustrator. The Red Strat was built in 1.7, and the Les Paul I recently did in 1.8.

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Photo).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Photo for Windows) can be downloaded from this link. (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

Apart from the backdrop (virtually gone) this image was created with photographs of water.
With help from the liquify persona and blend modes I was able to realise this particular visual experiment.

"Hell hath no fury. . ." seems a nice girl.
This got really complicated as it developed - different layers with different blend modes & opacities. The problem with doing something like this is: when you want or need to merge certain layers they never merge as you expect them to; the layers never keep their individual properties but default to the highest setting and then the effect you had is gone.
Time to undo and stop playing with fire!

What to do on a boring rainy weekend? I thought I would try and get some more milage out of the UFO pictured in "Contact" and revisit "Close encounter" by adding oodles of detail to the Conny.
The Conny herself is from a picture I took of the Breitling Conny at her base in Basel. I think it turned out well.

I'm with smadell on this one. Using a 50% grey layer is my choice and it's totally non destructive in the sense that if a mistake is made, you simply paint over the grey layer to erase it.

Ask 5 people how to dodge and burn, and you'll probably get 7 different answers. The answer to the question about a preferred way to dodge and burn is that it's the method you prefer.
That having been said, and despite all the possible complications that can be added, I almost always dodge and burn using a single 50% grey layer set to Overlay blend mode. I brush in black and/or white with a low flow soft brush (usually 100% opacity, 1-2% flow, 0% hardness) and build up the effect slowly.
I never use the Dodge and Burn tools because they are, at heart, destructive tools. Sure, you can use them on a duplicate layer. But you still can't go back to fix a mistake (at least, not easily) without undoing lots of work in between. I prefer to do things non-destructively whenever possible, and that's what doing dodge and burn on a separate layer accomplishes.
It's also been stated that the 50% grey fill in the Dodge and Burn layer is superfluous. You could just add an empty pixel layer and do the black and white brush strokes there. That's true, but I find that when it comes time to actually look at the dodge and burn layer, having the 50% grey background lets me see what I've done much more easily.

Nice! One bit of criticism I have about the composition is that the shadowed sihouette of the woman isn't properly mirrored. The mirror image and the woman are facing the same way which is unrealistic since a mirror is supposed to flip them to be opposites, as in right is left and vice versa. It is especially noticeable with the hair and shoulders which are facing the same way as the mirror image.

    Hallo Affinity Jules,
(Siehe Making of X Bilder)

    Hello Affinity Jules,
Originally I took all my pictures in Photoshop CS4 Ex, due to a hard drive bug 4 years ago almost all pictures would be destroyed.
And at the moment I am all pictures that are worth restoring or redesigning with Affinity Photo.
For the glass effect this would be designed using the adjustment level gradient conversion. (See Making of X pictures)
