    But seriously...
Just make the star shapes the colour that you want them to be when you create them.

After I contacted Support at JixiPix directly about the problem I was having with their Watercolor Studio plugin for Affinity Photo they immediately sent me an updated installer download. The plugin is working flawlessly now with Photo.   I also received an email from them today, which I wanted to pass along to everybody, because if you had purchased this app before this week you might have experienced the same plugin difficulty as I did.  Here is what they said:
"All of our products have been updated with the latest plugin that now works with Affinity Photo.  Our plugins only worked with the Mac App Store version. But now everything is good to go as they are all updated (and live) to work with both versions  [Mac App Store and ordering directly from the website]🙂

"We do need to update our site to better explain Affinity support as it seems to be more popular now than Photoshop (in fact that is what I use instead of Photoshop). Will add that to the list 🙂

"Go ahead and post to the forum that we are good to go. And thanks for doing that because these types of things are quite beneficial to our company since a lot of people do not even know about us. We are a small company, in fact there are 2 of us 🙂 My wife is the long time artist and I have been an algorithm engineer my whole life. Together we create everything on our site. We have a blast doing it too. Of course when things like new plugins come up its a tad stressful on us... doh..

    Have a great one!
    Michael"

I just tested your file and the healing brush/clone tool/ will work after the file has been rasterised. In most cases when a tool doesn't work properly just make sure the file is a raster file.

Many ways in which to do this type of thing and, the level of what looks like perlin noise helps out a bit.
    1. I used the pen tool to outline the area around the heads and backrest of the cart.
    2 Made the selection/feather 2/Inverted the selection.
    3. New layer set to current layer and below.
    4. Cloned out the offending areas in question.
    5. Flattened document.
Note: I never used the inpainting tool at all with this image because there was no call for it.

The ability to specify a sampling area for inpainting would be a huge improvement.

No this is not what I meant, and I'm using Windows.
Well... no, attached to this message is a sample of what I mean and why your solution would not work :
    - In Krita, the blur brush somehow spread more and more and the blur intensity is relative to the brush size, thus you have a great blur transition.
    - I just realized that Photoshop is equal to Affinity in this situation : no matter how strong, how big and how often I use the brush, the blur intensity will remain the same.
    - Your gaussian blur trick with alpha transition results to a very amateurish blur transition... And no I won't make multiple layers with different gaussian blur sizes on each, it would be damn complicated for nothing - I'd rather open Krita just for that effect and copy-paste it back into Affinity.

So it seems there isn't any solution to this ?

This tool can be a nightmare. Expanding the size seems to make no visible difference to the area you're trying to liquify.
It's a bit strange to use, but good luck with it.
Yet another tool in need of a decent overhaul.

Thank you so much Carl123, Ron P., and Affinity Jules! At least I know it wasn't just me or something on my computer. Rasterizing solved it for me as well! Thank you all again!

In my own observations when working with layers: if I skew or distort an image, I always have to rasterise it again in order to make it behave as expected with brushes. etc. I don't know if this behaviour is expected, or if it's a on-going bug? When using this software, I have found that, whenever I alter the dimensions of an image - be it size/skew or whatever, the outer edge of the image becomes pixelated until it is rasterised. I have no explanation for this but have observed this behaviour for some time.
Like carl123 your image/layer behaved as normal after I rasterised it.
