  1. Hmm. . .using Affinity in zero G, now there's a thought.
  2. Watch this tutorial, it might explain better than mere words.
  3. You can do a lot of things using Affinity Photo - and putting cats in space suits is just one of them. This is just a quick demo with colour adjustments made to the helmet, and for all other things. . .the sky is the limit.

    BIOME Initiative

I like it. And what is the BIOME Initiative exactly?

    The Summoning Pt 3

There was a time when I got stuck while doing this - I couldn't find how to create a particular effect without the need for using stock photos. Fortunately, someone in here was doing live streams on YouTube and was creating the exact same effect I was looking for with a smudge brush. So my humble thanks reach out to mattitFi who kindly told me how to do it.

    Help with selection/copy/paste

Well I tried it from a copy I made of your picture and it worked as expected. Can you post the picture without the outline selected then I can show you what I mean.
  7. I watched a video tutorial where the blend range was used to create a ghost-like effect after adding an inner & outer glow to a layer (man). I downloaded the images and tried the effect out for myself, but I immediately ran into a problem - the blend range did not work as expected in the sense that no effect was applied to the image (see example below). I set up my version exactly as the tutorial demonstrated and could not understand what was going on. After a bit of investigation I found that the image of the man was indeed a PNG file, and by opening the image in Affinity Photo then copying and pasting the image across to the graveyard scene altered the format which prevented the blend range from working. I then used "place" and opened it directly to the graveyard image and after applying the glow effects it finally worked. Is this expected behaviour, or is it a bug? I would have thought that the blend range would work on an effected pixel image (it works without the glow effect applied), but my own experiments have shown me otherwise. The video demonstration can be found here.

    Blend Ranges - a bug?

I would imagine so, it does seem fraught with conflicts.

    Blend Ranges - a bug?

Yes, it works if you embed the image from the original PNG. I tried it on a pixel layer with effects preserved but that didn't work.

    Timelapse of making artwork

Yes, that explains it and thanks for that - I was using a normal brush and obviously that's why it didn't work. I called them clouds because I didn't know how else to describe them. But that's ok.
  11. Select CHANNELS and view the COMPOSITE RED/GREEN/BLUE CHANNELS. Select the channel which gives the best contrast - in this example I used RED CHANNEL. I used the FLOOD SELECT TOOL and dragged it to the right (which increases tolerance) until I had a reasonable selection. You will see marching ants on all parts selected. I then switched to the SELECTION BRUSH TOOL, made the brush size small and selected all the parts the FLOOD FILL missed. Copy & paste the selection to a new layer (this will happen automatically). Note: You will see that there are spaces between the coloured parts where the font was ( your example didn't have them so you will have to worry about that).

Absolutely! That film is definitely a classic. Seen it a few times - more so in the past, but not lately.

    Location, Location

I always wondered about that. When I first joined the forums my location displayed as expected, but I altered the format and it went all awry. Thanks for that, I'll try it.

    Timelapse of making artwork

I went over to YouTube and watched your recorded live stream, many techniques you used I already know but there was one which left me wondering how it was done. When you created the 2 white circles and used the blur tool on the one behind to create that dense cloud effect what type of brush did you use? I tried to replicate what you did for experimental purposes but the technique did not work for me. So I figured that the brush you used was customised to your needs. I messed about with brush settings for a while but I still couldn't get that effect. So how did you do it?

That sounds useful, I didn't know you could do that because I never had cause to slow a video down before.

    The Summoning

"Hell hath no fury. . ." seems a nice girl. This got really complicated as it developed - different layers with different blend modes & opacities. The problem with doing something like this is: when you want or need to merge certain layers they never merge as you expect them to; the layers never keep their individual properties but default to the highest setting and then the effect you had is gone. Time to undo and stop playing with fire!

    Timelapse of making artwork

Very nice picture and all that. . .I just wish I could tell what the hell was going on! Don't mind these speeded up videos - the only problem for any learner like myself who likes to see other peoples techniques is that they are too fast to be instructive. Great picture though.

What a grand title! All day in the making and another "live" composite which steered its own course; I just went with it.

    Surreal Beach Dream

That's odd, and unless I misunderstand what you've just described, I did that with the final image - scaled it down and placed it within the ball.

    Miraculous Organic

I too have quite an extensive prog-rock collection - been collecting since the 70's. What with the onset of the digital age I don't collect much anymore I now get the CD versions of albums that I want.

    Miraculous Organic

Apart from the backdrop (virtually gone) this image was created with photographs of water. With help from the liquify persona and blend modes I was able to realise this particular visual experiment.

    Surreal Beach Dream

That's a good idea that never occurred to me. I tried many different things in the name of experimentation, but after a while I settled for it as it was.
