Is this image a product of the brush? Looks good to me.

Well. . .what I would say is this: It's obvious to me - even without the Christmas greetings, that this picture shouts out humour and nothing else.

I'd like to see that picture just so I can understand why it so stunned this community. I'm sure it's not that bad. And yes, there are lots of truly talented people in here that are capable of producing designs and the like which truly stun me in their detail and time taken to produce them - albeit, mainly vector graphics which all I know about is the fact that the word begins with a V. I enjoy what I do and have no aspirations about any of it. I post stuff in here simply because I can; some of my creations are more successful than others (according to the "like" button), and even if I get just one like, then I know that at least I've touched someone with one of my creations.

I installed the titling font and it looks great. There is one thing that confuses me - I don't know much about this stuff so maybe someone can clarify. In the zip folder it displays 10 fonts, and inside the font drop down box in Affinity it has the number 10 next to the font itself. But clearly there is only one font to be had or used. What does the "10" mean?

How on earth do you sift through that lot? Like I said. . .it's a nightmare.
  6. Not sure what you mean by "fit into certain card sizes"? You can create custom sizes in the file menu when you open a new document, and this can be saved to use for future purposes. And if its one size you need then that would be straight forward.

Thanks, I'll check the link out. I must confess that I've never heard of Jim Krause, but then again, I've not heard of a lot things relating to design or the people prominent in that field.

I have Cooper STD (which I assume means standard?) I tried that one but there wasn't much difference between that and the one I chose.

I just checked out those fonts and they do indeed look better suited for titles. There are so many fonts out there, some free, others not, and I find it truly a miracle if you find the one you want. Take your link for example: I have never heard of those fonts before and more worryingly, how many thousands of others have I not seen or heard of? What a nightmare of decision or choice. I find it a painful experience and seldom do it. My design choices are born from an angle of fun rather than professional intent. And I must confess that designing is definitely NOT my forte - one of the reasons why I stick to Photo rather than meddle with Designer or other related products. I'm strictly amateur.

This was just a muck about and not to be taken that seriously. JDA Productions is the name I use when I produce or engineer music so it has nothing to do with books and everything I create usually has that name tag attached to it - albeit not always pictures. From a critical point of view I'm sure that there's lots wrong with it and the font (which is a nightmare for me to choose) is probably not suited - but hey! I was having fun. Thanks for your input.

    Free Affinity Photo Brushes

You can never have enough brushes. Thanks for sharing.
  12. It's a good thing when, after asking for help, you discover what you want to do all by yourself. I actually messed around with those three images and found myself steeped in a mystery in the sense that I was totally clueless as to what the heck I was doing! I have never done HDR merging before so it was all shiny & new.

    Natural rainbow

If you could get high enough then would see the rainbow as a circle.
  15. I use windows and have never seen these three coloured dots on my display, although I too have seen them in various tutorials. I don't know if there is a difference between Windows and Mac. What OS do you use? If you use a Mac then I have no idea. EDIT: I just use the X to exit the filter.
  16. I'm not sure I understand, what red dot are you referring to. There is no red dot as I understand it.
  17. Is this what you want to do?

Well, as the saying goes. . ."every picture tells a story." I would let my imagination run riot and develop it from there.

    Natural rainbow

On the subject of natural rainbows. A few years back I looked out of my window after a heavy, sudden rainfall, and saw this double rainbow. I dashed downstairs and took several photos - this being one of them.

Yep. . .can't argue with that. In fact, in my early compositing years using photoshop 7 I used to do exactly what you're doing here; making images and imagining a story to fit along side.

You certainly have an active imagination putting stories to pictures/concept art.

I get similar slowdown doing composites when the file gets big. Out of interest, how big did this composite get at the end?
  23. Did you use the select brush or the flood select tool? Did you rasterise the image afterward?
  24. Knowledge of painting or how to apply it with a paint brush isn't that important in the digital world because any mistakes that are made can be easily rectified with a push of a button. There is a wide selection of brushes available to you in Affinity and the only way for you to get used to using them . . . is to actually use them to find out how they work! Take me for instance. I am left handed and draw or write with my left hand, but on a computer I use my right hand with the mouse for all operations. I'm not a painter but I can still apply paint in a digital medium and so can you. Take some time to learn, after all, it doesn't take much effect to select a brush and paint on an empty layer - a child could do that and I'm sure they regularly do just for the mess free fun of it all. As Alfred mentioned, it's hard to offer help to someone who is not providing feedback on advice which is given. So with that in mind I respectfully bow out of this thread and wish you all the luck with your learning curve.
