    I like the new icons because they are more vibrant and colorful. But they still are in the new flat design way that f* up the entire UI and I understand your point of view.
    v1 made me think I was using a robust app :
    While v2 make me feel I'm using a badly designed app with no Human Interface in mind. I don't know, that's the flat design that gives me the creeps...

    I felt like the v1.0 UI design felt more robust.

    I made two screen recordings that shows pull down menu vs. the icon menu for exporting, and the bad choice of a scrolling interface.

    Yes, but now you have to scroll and resize the export window to see them all. Why not having those settings on the right of the other settings? Modern UI seems to be done for vertical screens... Like the new Systems Preferences in macOS Ventura. Everything is vertical and behind a scroll wall...

    Yes the new icons are great indeed! But I was talking about the interface elements. Like buttons, sliders, etc...

    Those new icons, I agree it's better for most of them. But not the stoke panel ones, imho.

    Exactly !
    The Drop down menu is annoying. Clicking an icon was faster! Everything looks like a badly done app wish a fishy framework and takes more screen space : v1 : v2: Scrolling and resizing the window to get to the other settings? That's a UI/UX design that comes from Web apps, Chrome... yuck yuck yuck. v1: v2:

    Get off your high horse. Most of the time on macOS apps are installed by drag and dropping a .app bundle that we copy wherever we want. macOS is not iOS or iPadOS.

    Assuming you mean what I just quoted here, I would agree.  What you quoted in that post, is far from so.
    Not sure if you have been around long enough to remember the original Print Shop when it came out - like for the Apple II series computers?
    It provided a way to print greeting cards, banners, and other similar items, using a menu-driven design interface, on primarily dot matrix printers, at a low resolution, in some cases with the handful of colors that were offered on the ImageWriter II and the like.
    Great program for a lot of people - created a lot of cards with that for people.
    While it was hardly a professional page layout application, it could accomplish a small subset of what such an application could do, and was geared toward non-designers, allowing them to create custom printouts using commonly available equipment.  Very popular back in the day.  Some version of it or another is still being sold.

    Not everyone who uses page layout software is working in a team to create multi-lingual scholarly technical manuals with newspaper-like spanned text headings.  Not everyone has the same requirements of their software.  To try to impose the idea that the software is useless to everyone because it doesn't meet your particular expectations of how it should work is completely invalid.  To treat someone as childish for expressing the fact that the software meets their needs is itself rather childish.

    Can we move on?

    Well, I issued a refund and will keep using v1 instead. Underwhelming update after a hyped teaser few days prior. Ressources should have been spent into more wanted features that were asked for years on this forum instead of reworking the UI.

    Zaxonov reacted to PaoloT in Has V2 fixed Affinity's biggest issues?
    While I am all with Serif for the huge undertaking they have been carrying on since years, I have to share Kal's frustration. What I can start to see with V2 is this:
    - Photo and Designer are strong competitors to the Adobe equivalents. They still miss things, but do so many things well. AI features don't compel me. All considered, I was already mostly happy with the first version.
    - Integration with the Mac's UI is even worse than before. This may seem a little thing for our fellows using Windows, but it is extremely important for us Mac users. We chose the difficult way of living out of the crowd because we love the comfort and elegance of that UI. Programs interfering with our lifelong meditation can't find good reception.
    - While adding some extraordinary features, like side notes, and continuing to have the older, like live preview of changes, Publisher is very far from being an InDesign replacement. It can already be fine for someone working in isolation, but not for people working in a team or with collaborators, due to the lack of any way to be integrated in a production flux. It still lacks some fundamental things for long projects, like cross-references. It can't deal with RTL and CJK languages, that are all part of my everyday job. And then, there is the same issue of the application frame breaking the usefulness of the clean, multi-window Mac environment.
    I was sincerely hoping to be able to finally trash InDesign in the next few months. But at this point I fear it will be several years away from now. The only two solutions, in the meantime, are to either keep a machine (real or virtual) with a current Mac OS just to use InDesign CS6, or to switch to InDesign CC. This latter solution repels me, since it would mean making all the forthcoming documents hostage of Adobe and its aleatory price and plan policies.
    Not a great situation, in the freelance/small shops publishing world.
    How bad I feel? I'm considering alternatives to using page layout software, entirely.

    I think the 40% discount is more than fair. Even if that's for everybody. Not rewarding v1 users is understandable for them to keep an attractive price for everyone with no subscription.

    Zaxonov reacted to Granddaddy in Affinity 2 beta testing failures stopped users cold in first five seconds
    The chaotic rollout of Affinity 2 speaks once again to the lack of systematic, user-focused, real-world beta testing of Affinity products.
    1.) Did beta testing really miss the fact that many users, perhaps especially in business environments, would not be able to install Affinity 2 programs on machines they've been using with Affinity 1 for years?
    2.) Did beta testing really miss the fact that widely-used image management software like Faststone Image Viewer and XnView MP could no longer be used to launch Affinity 2 unless users wrote their own .bat files or obtained a helper program to serve as an intermediary program launcher?
    Everyday users (mostly non-technical types) discovered these two problems in the first seconds after downloading and running the Affinity 2 installers. Did not one beta tester report these problems?
    Just these two foundational issues have generated many new forum topics and more are appearing today. Some of the topics now have hundreds of posts. How many users have time to wade through hundreds of posts in hopes of finding a solution?
    Affinity users have spent days working on the software to make it usable. Many are trying to determine whether or not to continue to use Affinity 2 software. They worry about the future of their businesses. If they choose to continue, how is it possible to incorporate Affinity 2 software into familiar workflows used for years with Affinity 1?
    It appears that Affinity support personnel were taken by surprise by the deluge of questions and complaints concerning the unusability of Affinity 2 software.
    I admire the Affinity support personnel who have worked patiently, courteously, and it seems frantically, to respond to users about these problems and to develop workarounds that will make Affinity 2 functional.
    ==============
    I understand from Mark's posts this morning that a second installer alternative that eliminates these two install and launch problems will be available soon, or to quote Mark "we hope it won't be long." An MSI installer will be made available that enables users to avoid the dysfunction caused by the MSIX installer currently in use.

    All this frustration, turmoil, disillusionment, anger, and time-wasting could have been avoided by implementing a proper beta testing program. Affinity 2 now calls to mind a Dilbert cartoon, with sales hype taking precedence over user requirements and preferences.
    ==============
    I have commented previously about the inadequate beta testing of Affinity software. Things are missed in Affinity beta testing that the average, non-technical user discovers immediately. Testing now seems worse than ever as the most obvious installation and startup failures are not being caught. Perhaps it is just cheaper to do it this way--limited testing followed by mopping up after users complain.
    Examples of surprises with previous releases:

    That would certainly be an improvement, but Radio Buttons are used for mutual exclusivity - that is, if one option is ON, then all the other options are OFF.
    Its called a radio button because e its modelled on the old-fashioned radios where you push a button to select a station,
    and of course you can't have two stations playing at the same time !
    So it's not appropriate to use radio buttons for something like layers, where any number of items can be ON OR OFF at the same time.
    That's why we have check boxes - which work perfectly well (unlike dots, which don't )
    Tell me - is this layer ON or OFF (*see below) ?

    The only way to judge whether this works is to remove the context.
    With no adjacent text or other buttons to provide a point of reference, there is no way to know.
    Now - tell me whether this one is ON out OFF ...

    You can tell from across the room that this is ON because the button includes its own point of reference.
    Checkboxes work, dots do not.
    =====
    * This layer is ON - but who would know because Ive reduced the display contrast ?
