We use Microsoft Publisher at my church. Would love to transfer us to Affinity Publisher! Import option would be fantastic!

    Hello,
suffering from a deficiency of payable Publisher-Software in the past I was creating worksheets for my pupils with Microsoft Publisher. I would like to continue (and edit!!) this stuff in Affinity Publisher. I want to know, if I need to reinvent the wheel again and rebuild the worksheets from scratch, or whether there will be a way to import Microsoft Publisher Documents in Affinity Publisher. I'm pretty sure, I'm not the only one, who has got this question / problem. Thanks, Volker

    Hi whitedragon101,
Don't use the Erase blend mode or the shapes will be rasterised when exporting to vector formats.
You can use boolean operations or vector masks or clipping (depending on what you want to do) to create the shapes you need without rasterising anything.
For example the main document shape can be created either using a single rectangle with a large stroke width or by subtracting the smaller rectangle from the larger one (selecting both and clicking in the Subtract - Combine will also do it - icon on the main toolbar in the Geometry operations group. Similar operation can be used to "delete" part of the rotated rectangle. Here's a quick example showing how to subtract a circle from a rectangle:

If you press alt while clicking on one of the geometric operations you will perfomr a non-destrcutive boolean operation which will result in a compound object. You can expand it in the Layers panel to access the original shapes used to create it.

    Check this Help topic to learn more about (destructive) geometric operations: Joining objects;
And this one to lean more about non-destructive boolean operations: Compound objects.

    Thanks. You’re an absolute legend.

That tool looks really good and it’s free for Mac/ windows / web . Baffling how they give it away for free. Hope that doesn’t change.

I hope they add IOS to that list.

No, it can't maintain the connection, it can snap to a point, geometry, guides and grids etc but if you move whatever has been snapped to, the connection will not be maintained. If you want that sort of thing try Draw.io

What I'm really hoping is that Affinity Designer for iPad will optimise for the Pencil.  My dream is simply being able to draw vector drawings directly with the pencil and have the software figure out the points and curves for you.

I'm so excited on the Synology forum someone recommended File Browser.  I was trying to browse my Synology NAS and drop files directly onto a Focus stack.  Just couldn't do it.  Had to use a PC and go NAS to iCloud... wait.....iCloud to iPad..... wait...... iCloud to Affinity Photo iPad wait......

With FileBrowser I just browsed to the files location directly on the NAS and used IOS11 drag and drop straight into an Affinity Photo Focus stack. Boom done.  I have also connected my Mac, PC, iCloud too.

The App is just epic and will be even more useful when Affinity Designer Drops.

    Hi whitedragon101,

The sources panel didn't make it into the iPad version, i'm not sure why.

I'll move this thread over to Feature Suggestions.

I can't see a way of doing this without the Sources Panel.  You could always do a stack and see which areas of the image need improving and then edit and export the individual pictures before creating the stack again.  I'm sure if anyone else has any ideas they will post them

Version 2 would need to have lots of new (currently unheard of) features to persuade people to pay to upgrade to it.
Currently the Dev team seem focused on fixing existing bugs, implementing features from the 1.x roadmap and Affinity Publisher .  So unless Serif have part of their team simultaneously working on new version 2.0 features I doubt we will be seeing even a beta version anytime in the next 2 - 3 years.
As regards upgrade pricing, Serif have in the past always offered upgrade pricing to existing customers (the Plus range) but as the software is already incredibly cheap for what it does, only time will tell if there are to be any financial incentives to upgrade.

Point releases are free, major releases will cost.  Serif have used upgrade pricing in the past, but I've seen nothing official either way.  There's no compulsion to upgrade though - if v2 doesn't do enough for you you can carry on with v1.
