  1. There are three files here.  Work file has simple rectangle and some letters converted to curves.  The rectangle is always acknowledged in the SVG saved.  The letters are only acknowledged if line thickness is 2 points or higher.  The line of the rectangle is 0.2points in thickness and get recognized in the SVG every time.  I've made lettering using the 0.2point line thickness for months and now this won't save?

The SVG file does show the doubled curves but without the Designer file which you used to export the SVG there isn't a lot of help I can give you. You may have in fact somehow duplicated all the objects in the Designer file. Check your Layers panel is about all I can say.

Entire file attached.  Thanks so very much for your time!  There are multiple designs on the same file.  Some of the designs double cut and others don't.

So confused as to why this happens.  I use the SVG file for the instructions to the laser software.

  3. I use Affinity Design to make geometries for laser cutters.  My designs often have double cuts in the design.  These double cuts are being translated from my design through a server based software system from GlowForge Inc.  I've talked with them and they're showing me in there software that I have double lines on many designs.  However I cannot see that same details in Affinity Design.  There are several of us having the same problem.  I see this as being a common issue on the GlowForge Community site.  There must be a way to detect and or scan and remove all double lines from any design.

Thanks so much for your urgent attention.

@Jarrett, I've never used the Glowforge laser, but when I've done designs for my Shapeoko CNC router, I always try to have just one path for each cut.  I have never found any automated way of doing this.  Have you checked on the internet to see if there are any optimization sites to do this?  I never searched for such, but it's an idea.

The few times I've tried to use a program converting jpg to a vector, like Vectorize I found that the vectors were not very clean and were confusing.  They required a lot of manual work to clean up.  Redrawing it was usually easier once I figured out what my machine needed.

I'm assuming the laser can shut itself off to move from one point to another without cutting.  Which makes the redrawing fairly easy, usually.  But then it does depend on how complex your design is.

There are other programs.  Poor quality or expensive for my budget.  Serif needs to fix this.  They're in the business to support their loyalties.  I've found that when AD saves a file in SVG, it opens all other closed layers and saves them together.  Huge issue.  Serif must fix this.  Only layers that are open should be saved.

  5. I'm having several issues with the platform.  Any methods to address would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using the finished SVG. files on a Glowforge laser cutter.  The files are often cut twice due to having double lines laying directly over each other.  Is there a part of the program that finds hidden double lines and removes them on layers or multiple layers.  When saving to SVG file, only the layers that are open at to be saved.  All layers that are turned off must not be saved in the SVG file.

Grouped layers do not select well with other layers if they are not in the group.  This must change.  Any Grouped layer must be able to connect with any other layer without having to be in that Group.  Layers that are being selected, must activate in the group, not just activate the group.  This makes the selection process quicker.

Importing SVG files made from jpgs:  There is a simple internet site that converts jpgs into SVG files.  The files are often littered with vector points in excess of what's needed.  Is there a way to reduce the unnecessary points in AD?

  6. Creating an object, curve whatever;  I used to be able to create text on path, copy object (Object, Curve, Pixel) and copy to Text Path.  The the copied object would follow the path.  Won't work now.  BALLS!.  Want holes around the inner perimeter of the Heart.  Now it gives me some BS Pin control that is a miserable new function to place pinned, objects on path.  Doesn't work.  Object gets copied and off-set to a distant location from the pathed object.

  7. Several occurrences of saved svg. files that have not captured text or curves in the file.  I enlarge the line width and this fixes sometimes,,, unacceptable!  I move the text or curve around the layer and this works,,, UNACCEPTABLE!!!.

    Also:

Scaling an object, curve, or text in one file does not translate to another file,,, unacceptable! Example; I have one file that I need text printed at 10".  Printing works fine, lettering is 10".  I copy the lettering to a new file to enlarge the lettering and save as a new file.  Lettering, curve, object reverts to the original size in the original file of 10",,, unacceptable!

  8. Trying to batch process 755 (75MB RAW's) into jpg files.  Image reduced from full size to 1250 on long edge, meta removed, converted to sRGB, and saved in folder on my drive.  Computer sat for 10 minutes without putting one processed file in the designated folder.  Reduced batch size from 755 images to 59 images, no change.  The batching portion of the software doesn't work.  Need some help on this.

  9. Info panel:  ability to adjust sampling area of markers for the info tools.  The cross hairs seem to select one pixel and one pixel only.  Allow the cross hairs to capture an average like the color picker tool does.  This is to be adjustable.

Selection border has a width that needs to be removed.  When areas are selected in a layer, the width of the selection has a thickness.  That little dotted line, seems to have a thickness that recorded with selecting and separating subject rom background.

All adjustment layers must have a toggle for fine adjustment.  Some time the adjustment bar is too sensitive for the minuscule adjustments that I want to make.  Make a toggle switch to cut the adjustment to 25% movement on the adjustment.

Reset in HSL should only pertain to each color selection including the master.   And or, a total reset or color reset selector.

Gradient tool:  This tool needs to gain some control when selected.  Layers that used the gradient tool loose the tools position once the layer is clicked off.  That position needs to be available all the time.  I use the gradient tool often when balancing images from one side to the other and making custom vignettes.  I need to go back into this layer and adjust the position of the gradient without having to rebuild the gradient from scratch.

Maybe not an Affinity issue, only happens on Affinity Photo for me though.  Sporadically the image position will suddenly shift, enlarge or reduce without cause.

Brush: It’d be a great help to have a brush window that displays the shape of the current brush being used.  When the brush is very small it’d be very nice to have a display at the top of the screen that displays the shape of the brush selected.  The brush menu, not good enough.

Layer integrity.  I’ve noticed often; Separating a subject from the scene to be place on another layer, then selecting the background removing the subject (transparent background for subject on this layer).  The background layer maintains remnant subject matter when background layer is blurred, Gaussian, Depth of Field, etc’.  Resulting halo of removed subject.
