I have to agree with others that holding Option to drag from the center has been the convention on the Mac since time immemorial. One of the biggest strengths of the Mac platform is consistency between apps, not just within them, and I really think it would behoove Affinity to follow this convention. Don't bother making it a setting -- just change it to Option so Affinity is consistent with the platform convention at all times.

That said, I just took a look at Affinity Photo and I am highly impressed. I really hope that this product is able to grow into a worthy replacement for That Professional Photo Editing Tool Everyone Uses But Hates The Vendor Of. Best of luck!!

    Hi everyone!

I'm Antonio Tejada, a lifelong Mac user with specific interest in UX (usability, in particular interaction design) and localization, with a background in Mac technical support, and a hobby photographer.

Having supported many clients in the graphic arts, I've seen the rise and fall of Quark, FreeHand's sad demise at the altar of Adobe, the various failed attempts at Photoshop competition (xRes, anyone?), etc. There's long been a need for viable competition for Photoshop and Illustrator in the pro market, and I think this might be it!

As for me, other than user interface mockups, I'm not much of a graphic artist. :P

If you guys ever have questions about Mac UI design or localization issues, feel free to drop me a line! Best of luck with the Affinity apps!

    Cheers,
    Antonio

    Hi, I'm William.
Mac-adept, DTP/design since 1988, former Freehand addict (since v1) and extremely happy to have found a very serious competitor for the expensive dragon named Illustrator - which I was forced to love the day Apple killed Rosetta.

Affinity designer feels great already - even while not finished.
It reminds me somewhat of Laserpaint, the first app ever to combine vector and bitmap, ages ago. I feel so young again!
I hope AD will get a good plug in system like AI once had [e.g. scriptographer (now http://paperjs.org/)]
Will do my best to give feedback and make AD mature to the max.

So, I got the ßeta and would love to aquire an official license - but how do I buy one?

    Hi all,

just found out about Affinity today and was totally thrilled to see a new vector art programm on OSX. In my spare time I love to do many things. Besides writing and game development , I create art for games and illustrations. For myself and clients. For this I have used programs like Inkscape and Adobe Illustrator in the past. Lately I was using Manga Studio 5 exclusively as it has some kind of vector functionality too and the drawing part is imho the best in the industry when you love to use tablets like a WACOM Intuos 5 for an example. Which I do.

I run my apps mainly on a 2009 Imac with OSX 10.8.6 on it. But I have Windows machines at home too. Still, I love to work on a Mac, everything works for my needs. Got the Apple virus and no medicine will get rid of it :D

With Affinity, I look forward to see how I can utilize it for my game art needs. I just had it open for 5 minutes, so I am a total Affinity newbie. I have played with DrawPlus6 before but somehow it didn't click with me. Plus it was Windows only :-)

Anyway, looking forward to see what others are doing with Affinity and what I can create with it.

    Cheers

    Hello everyone.
My name is Rui Batista and I'm a graphic designer from Portugal.
I started out a LONG time ago, using Illustrator 1.0 and, after that, FreeHand 1.0
Ever since Adobe "killed" FreeHand, I have been forced to use Illustrator and I hate every second I use it.
I have been searching for viable alternatives and, finally, it seems that I found one. Affinity looks amazing. And at a reasonable price. I can't wait for its official realease.

Hi, I'm Dale, copywriter, tech author, blogger, demonstrator and a few other things. I've joined the Mac lads (and ladies) so I can use and abuse Affinity titles and other Mac software and help make it shine on our website, in the press, and social media accts.

If you think the way Affinity apps are described is inaccurate or missing the point, hit me up and I'll make it better. If there's a tutorial you're desperate for, let me know and I'll raise it with the documentation team.

FYI the soppy little cat in my avatar is Rorschach.

tooki reacted to TheD3vilHimself in Modifier keys while drawing a selection.
I've noticed that while drawing a selection with the marquee tool coming from PS I was expecting modifier keys to work, such as holding Space to move selection while drawing, holding Alt for center to bounds drawing. Also missing were cursor cues to the action, whereas the cursor never shows a plus sign if adding or minus if subtracting, x for intersection, etc. Are these features planned?

On a side note, the software as is is quite impressive, the native filetype crunched an 80mb PSD file to 17 while retaining quality. I mainly do comic book coloring with PS and most features are there, save perhaps a few like processing grayscale to bitmap for the line art, but it looks like I could migrate. The UI is snappy, we like it.
