When selecting a jpg in Documents and using Share then picking AP beta, the jpg fails to open. This process works with 1.6
Strangely enough share to V1.7 beta works ok on IOS 12.4 beta but occasionally fails on V1.6 is my experience, I’m convinced its a timing issue when loading the file.

Ok, lol. When you import a JPEG raster image, at what point does it become a scalable image?
Ok, better description perhaps is scalable raster image which retains it’s original imported resolution until you do a destructive edit or rasterise it to the underlying document resolution. Hope this has helped not created more confusion. Best thing is to experiment with it your self to understand how it works unless a Serif team member wants to step in and elaborate further..

You seem to be saying that even though you are importing a JPEG raster file, AP creates a vector file from it. And it remains a vector image until you perform a destructive edit.
Perhaps the term vector layer is totally wrong, scalable layer maybe a better description.

I was thinking about this last night and would like to clear up something. In your video you show how the image can be enlarged without losing clarity. That is before a destructive edit. But in my original example, the typical JPEG image is already rasterised when it is placed. If you enlarge it enough, it will become pixelated. This is before any edits. Please explain. Thanks.
In this example I have placed a high resolution jpeg onto a small 4”x5” document.
As I zoom in you can see the pixelation as it is mapped onto the underlying document pixel dimensions.
Watch as I enlarge way past the size of the document and where the photo was pixelated previously the image is again now clear.
This shows that the embedded image is a vector layer scalable onto underlying document pixel dimensions whilst adjustments are made.
As you stated, only on a destructive edit takes place do you lose that underlying high resolution photo.

So that means you can work on them as if they were a pixel layer? And when you work on them they become rasterised? Thanks.
You can apply adjustments to an image layer and adjust its dimensions without losing its original resolution, only when you make destructive edits will it be rasterised to a pixel layer. Notice how the embedded photo remains a full resolution a image layer for adjustments but is automatically converted to a pixel layer when an operation requires it.

The tutorial says that a placed image is brought into AP as a Vector Layer. That confuses me because images are usually JPEG type and JPEG are raster images Please explain. Thanks.
Unlike other older software packages which rasterise immediately, images are kept at full resolution no matter how small or large you scale them until you perform an operation that requires them to be rasterised to underlying pixel resolution. So until you do that, you image is effectively scalable like a vector layer..

Hi, I’m a AD newbie and using AD 1.6.4.45 on a 12” 1st gen iPad pro. I have a few questions regarding a pen tool. While drawing a line or a polygon, the pen tool behaves as a has a large radius instead of a pen nib. I’ve tried to change the resolution of the document but it doesn’t bring anything. Only zooming in lets you to draw or select lines with higher precision - but then I lose a Preview of the element I draw. Is there any tip to change this awkward behavior of a pen tool?
The second question regards the possibility of deselecting using a finger while drawing a line with a pen tool. There is such an ability when using, for instance, a pencil tool. Inability to deselect by a finger while using a pen tool is a bug or is there a secret tip to activate this one? Maybe can I use a pencil to draw a straight-line-polygon (without a bezier-nodes)?
Thanks for any tips and advice.
Change the mode of the pen from pen to polygon in the context sensitive menu at the bottom of the screen.
Double tap to deselect at endpoint.

Hi all,
Is there a way to align nodes from different objects like the video attached? I use that in illustrator all the time for 2d polygon art.
No but if you add a horizontal guide line and have snap to guide enabled you can drag each node to snap to the guide.

I'm confused too. We were previous warned that converting normal filters to live filters were memory intensive. Is this the case with supplied live filters or did it relate only to converted filters?
Access to Live filters was made available ain Macros in the old version. Is this the replacement?
Hi Dave, it looks like they are direct replacement for the live filter macros. In fact if you load the live filter macros in they appear to work exactly the same. To revert to a non-live filter, select the filter layer and select merge down which reverts to a normal destructive filter as usual.
So workflow is reversed, always use live and then remove when done for me.

Beta V1.7.0.128, just opened new document default, then pulled this in from stock, added unsharp mask live filter then fiddle with settings. It even saves with this weird effect in place, see attached.

Some strange behaviour using Unsharp Mask live filter.

I can deliberately swipe it out if I get right into the corner and swipe diagonally. Outside of APh beta I can swipe it out by swiping directly down from the top of the screen somewhere near the corner.
Edit: Scratch that! I can get it to appear by starting at or near the corner, but in both cases I have to swipe twice.
Agreed Alfred, I can do it but need 2 swipes. Absolute pain. Totally none standard for IOS behaviour.

Unfortunately the stroke studio is not available in Photo on iPad, the only work arounds are to also buy Designer (it’s cheap) and do that part of the edit in Designer since the afdesign and afphoto files can be opened in either app.
Alternatively you can make a square brush which you can change the spacing to rudimentary draw text, apologies from my poor effort on the V1.7 beta.

Renaming and resaving is not creating a new file (or renaming original saved file).
I saved an image from Project screen to local iPad. It saved as image_xxx. I renamed the image in Project screen and saved again (via hamburger menu). It saved the file with the original file name.
I have always had that behaviour on V1.6 as well. The only work around is to use save copy option, close it down on home screen then reopen from saveas location to get the new filename to stick.

An inpainting issue. Notice when the first line is drawn how it erases the red highlight after releasing. If a line is drawn and drawn back over, the red disappears completely. The inpainting however appears to work regardless of red line.
Please please please, turn off inpainting with fingers when using touch for Gestures. It is impossible to rotate layer without inpainting something unintentionally. As for swiping to turn off recording, impossible.

Hi Dave your flow is set to 56%, if you set to 100% it removes the overhead line in one go. I also see the weird pull back of the red trace.
