I used edit channels to clean up a mask for this image.  Thought perhaps this might be the problem but tried what I am describing on another image with the same outcome.

It seems that latest beta will move to Tone Mapping but then doesn’t work. Also  tried without success to change from rgb(16) to rgb(8) and rgb HDR (32) that was very dawgy.  Video is long but fast forward past the saving issue to see that although it saved transparent, was able to use history to recoup the image.  Included whole screen capture to show the length of time the process took.

I have also seen these transparent canvas turn up using other tools as well, maybe this is something to do with the metal changes to try and support Windows better. Also I’ve had screen jumping around too.

  2. Just to let you know that trying to an install a font on iPadOS 14 beta 8 results in instant crash on new 1.9 beta. This also happens on 1.8 Photo and Designer on iPad Pro 9.7” too.

Also the colour wheel started from the brush context toolbar is unusable as not only does it jump all over the screen it doesn’t remember the set colour either. Same behaviour is found in 1.8 under IPadOS14 beta too.

I am new to Affinity Design and (after first learning about the vector persona) just started learning and exploring the pixel persona and I just deleted an entire Brush Category.

How do I get those brushes back (they came with the software). I have the iPad version such that I can use my iPencil.

I tried to “undo” but that did not seem to work. Is there a place I can download files of the brushes included in the software?

    Many thanks for your help,

Do you know which category you deleted? If not you may find it easier to save all your project files and close them from the Affinity Home Screen and delete then re-install the app.

Goal: create accurate selection of area between green lines, going up to, but not beyond, the green lines

Problem: Smart selection tool doesn’t respect color — goes beyond the green lines rathere than selecting up to them.

Question: Is there a way to achieve the goal? Screen capture attached. iPad Designer, Pixel persona.

    thank you!

Smart Selection works on the layer you have selected, if the item isn’t on that layer then the edge can’t be detected. One way is to use merge curves so that they are on the same layer. You could also use merge visible to create a flattened pixel layer to make the selection on.

Just for saving time.  I guess one doesn't need to create on the actual artboard.  I was just wondering why every successive text entry automatically goes to the bottom of the layer stack instead of to the top of the already selected layer.

Thanks for the reply and I love your Boris Johnson line about punctuation grammar and spelling!

You can alter the normal insertion point using these settings but don’t think this is what you are after.

Hi. I just created a high pass layer but only want to apply the filter to a small area of my photo.

So I created a mask layer which, as you’d expect, starts off fully white. But I want to now invert that to a fully black layer so that I can brush with a white brush only where I want to apply the filter.

But I cannot find a way to INVERT a mask to black. I tried CMD + I as I expected to do the invert but it doesn’t.

What is the command to INVERT a MASK on IPAD AP?

    Thanks.

    Martin

Here you go, use the channels studio, select the high pass alpha mask then select invert.

Sure, when you look at the window when I selected the file you can actually the a ˋrealˋ preview what it is supposed to be. After opening it it looks different

Ok, managed to eventually freeze the frame to see what it was supposed to look like. Looks quite different so I guess there must be something extra in those files which Affinity is perhaps not compatible with. All I can suggest is you upload one of them for the developers to look at next week.

Eh... that is what I was doing in that video before I imported the file...

Sorry, I happened to look on a Windows 10 PC which I rarely use these days so didn't actually even notice the video. There is another PSD setting above, not so important though. Could you show what is in the layers studio as so far your video doesn't actually show any obvious PSD import problem, what did you expect to see?

I had this EXACT same problem. When I try to digitize illustrations, I encounter a lot of glitches. I can no longer do anything in that document basically... no erasing, no filling, no painting, etc.

My fix was to copy and paste the image into a new document and that worked. The other option is to export the document and open it as a new file. I find that if I do too many modifications, the app will start to get glitchy.

You must always be aware of the type of layer you are working on, the most common mistake in my experience  is to be working on an image layer or an adjustment layer. Generally you should rasterise an image layer before working on it. If you show a screen shot or a recording when your problem returns, always make sure you turn on show touches under preferences and pin the layer studio open so we can help you overcome your problems.

But I just wanted to import some new stuff but it‘s not working anymore. Somehow it‘s not correct imported. I recorded my screen to show you what I mean.

Do you have any idea whats wrong?

    Greetings

    Marcel

Under preferences, make sure you have enabled smart object import.

Paul, Is this the Untitled.afphoto file attached in opening post?  I only ever got a file not available message when trying to download so unable to test.

Hi Dave, sorry been out running a message, the untitled file doesn’t seem to exist, it was the black and white doggie file, using 16 bit colour profile which is extremely odd as I never knew there were 65’536 shades of grey.

This unbelievable. Crashed more than two times while i was working on an image taken WITH MY IPHONE, not a complex camera. This is unbelievable. Going back to the crippled Photoshop on iPad, at least it never crashed in my life. Disappointed.

File works fine on my ancient 2016 iPad Pro, I assume you have taken normal recovery steps of closing all apps and performing a forced restart on your iPad?

Same for me. I thought it was because I was working on an 8000x8000 file, even though I usually work with only a slightly smaller res. Spent an hour working on a project for a client that’s due next week. The app crashed and it hadn’t auto saved any of my work. Went on my Mac and tried to work in Affinity there only for the app to crash and reset my whole system. First time in 20 years that’s happened to me on a Mac. Used to happen on Win XP all the time - the dreaded blue screen of death. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I haven’t had any work due to the lockdown and I need to get paid for this job. I’m panicking. I’m going to do what I can in Designer, but I’m to use any Affinity products until they tell us how and when they’re going to fix it....

I would recommend setting the auto save interval to the minimum time 30 seconds to avoid losing so much work whilst waiting for a defect correction release.

  14. After over ten years with iPads, it’s the iPad itself that is vulnerable. Being a portable device it is subjected to lots of static electricity shocks and that can upset the hardware or even flip the state of flash memory bits. This is why turning off then on, or doing a forced restart now and again is worthwhile to re-initialise hardware and memory locations. At worst a full restore from backup may occasionally  be required. Affinity uses the iPad hardware to its full so inevitably will be prone to occasional problems because of this.
