  1. To be honest, I wish they had never called them projects since all they really are, are open tabs on a desktop application. If you ever have to delete the app to re-install it you will lose all your unsaved (not saved outside of the app) documents. You really should save each of your 'projects' you want to keep outside of the app in an iCloud folder instead.
  2. They are badly designed assets I agree, that’s why I shaded mine above to go in the asset panel as we always adjust the colour afterwards in the majority of cases anyway.
  3. Draw it using 3 shapes is one way, the top open curve with fill, a rectangle without fill and the bottom line.
  4. Strange, works for me 🎄🎄🎄 @DM1 @Alfred @NotMyFault See attached Assets panel based upon the desktop presets not available on iPad without an asset panel. Shape Presets.afassets
  5. The work around is to create your custom shape then add it to an asset panel for quick reuse later.
  6. Did you remember to rasterise the image first. If the layers panel says image instead of pixel, rasterise the layer first.
  7. Hmmm, I just traded in my 9.7” iPad Pro for a shiney new 11” iM1 Pad Pro so I didn’t have my old one to do the Apple ID transfer. Since I always run on the beta versions, it would take too long in the shop as first I had to boot the new iPad Pro without logging in, install the beta profile, install the latest beta then erase again then when it booted and I used my iPhone to do the Apple Id transfer. After a few minutes once that was completed, I was given the option to restore from my 9.7” backup file in iCloud . So now up and running with all my projects intact. So this was after a standard iCloud backup and restore cycle, I subscribe to a large iCloud to accommodate my backups but I believe there is a new way of transferring from one iPad to the other irrespective of how much iCloud you have, I didn’t use that method. EDIT: The opo asked about a Mac finder backup restore cycle which should do exactly the same so long as he is not on any iPadOS beta software. Since I use the betas I find iCloud backup restore more reliable and quicker than a Mac finder backup restore. The reason is MacOS doesn’t understand iPadOS beta software versions so will not restore an iPadOS beta backup to a device, but iCloud restore does.
  8. When you go to resize with the apple pencil, so long as you do not lift pencil from the resizing node you chose then when you place a finger on you should see that the shape reverts to its previous constrains. For example, draw a square by drawing a rectangle, the moment you add a finger the rectangle will become a square again since that is the default constraint on the rectangle tool. So don’t worry that the shape changes when you select the node, as soon as you place your finger on the screen, the shape will snap back to its previous constrained shape. It does work like desktop shift but you simply apply it after selecting a resize node first on the iPad. IMG_0124.MOV
  9. Even without your old iPad, so long as your iCloud area is large enough to hold your iCloud backup then when you get your new iPad you will be able restore your old backup to your new iPad so long as it is on the same iPadOS or newer version which is very likely. The holding your old iPad near your old one is just a convenience to avoid you having to transfer all your Apple ID information and settings. If you have an iPhone when you get your new iPad simply hold that near instead as the exact same information will be transferred from there. Your backup will restore your Affinity apps and your projects, so long as everything goes well. However I agree with prior comments from @DM1the application sandbox is NOT the place to store your important work if you really need to keep your projects. Much better to save outside of your iPad in an iCloud folder structure that you maintain yourself, in this way even if you lost your iPad you won’t lose your project work
  10. Thanks for the heads up @Alfred, I know Robert quite well, I have helped him quite a lot over the years from my Affinity Facebook groups including with my Macros file. Since I do this just for fun I’m OK with him referencing it but thanks again for pointing this out.
  11. It isn’t just from Affinity, it is also broken from System Preferences in both Big Sur and Monteray to access my HP Scanner. My workaround is to use the Image Capture Macos utility which does still work for me.
  12. When you import from the photos app, the original RAW image is imported, not the optimised processed JPG, possibly produced by your camera as a preview image. You have to cook your RAW images yourself to your taste, alternatively change to JPG only on your camera if a pre-cooked image is preferred. If you use the SHARE interface from Photos it will share direct the optimised processed JPG for editing. You will need to implement an Apple shortcut which can be found on these forums to edit this way.
  13. You really should change to use iCloud to store your work so that is easily accessible on your desktop. There is no sync across iPad and Desktop apps, create a folder structure in iCloud and save your work there. You can then open your work on the other device from that location. Just remember to close your work after saving before opening on the other device. This is true irrespective of whether you are going Desktop to iPad or iPad to Desktop. Projects on your Affinity home screen are like tabs open on the desktop version. Make sure to close otherwise you will be working on 2 different versions of your project.
  14. If you save as to an iCloud folder as an .afphoto file then upload it here myself and others can see if the problem exists on newer devices before you break the bank on a new iPad.
  15. Which iPad are you using, I have had to upgrade from my original 9.7” iPad Pro (2GB RAM) to the latest 11” iPad Pro (8 GB RAM) and the performance of Affinity is back to where it used to be with V1.7. I think it is inevitable as users clamor for more features, our hardware starts to creak. However always worth closing all open apps and doing a Forced Restart (press home plus power button continuously until you see the Apple logo or on devices without a home button, press volume up then volume down then press and hold power button until you see the Apple logo.)
  16. Make sure that you do not already have an image open in the Affinity app, you should be either on the Affinity Home Screen or close the app down first before using the shortcut in Photos since the iPad app does not support multiple open documents like the desktop versions can.
  17. Here you go, I created this yesterday for my facebook groups where the same question was asked. IMG_0710.MOV
  18. Depends on which Gaussian Blur you are using as there are 2. One under filters and another under the Layer FX panel. To make the context menu appear from the Layer FX menu you need to tap on the words Gaussian Blur as well as enabling it.
  19. As I understand it this is anti-aliasing which is how Affinity displays fractional pixels, especially needed on a curved line to reduce the visual impact of the pixel level jagged edge on a low resolution image. If you select your object, make sure your snapping settings force objects to be aligned with pixels and then edit the width and height dimensions and X and Y positions in the transform studio to remove fractional numbers you will find the anti-alias halo will vanish as it is no longer needed. This is easy to do on a test drawing but not so easy to achieve on a more complex image. Increasing the resolution of the canvas will help to reduce the visibility of this. In Designer you will also see this if in the Navigator studio you change the split view to pixels. anti-alias tester.afphoto
  20. If I use these settings then objects which are sized as pixels don’t show that. If I turn those settings off the halos appear. Keep all objects whole pixel sized will likely help as well. IMG_0655.MOV
  21. Selecting iCloud as the storage location only works if you actually save your files outside of the App. If they are on your Affinity Home Screen and you have not explicitly named and saved your files then all your work is at risk, as it is stored within the app. If you ever had to delete and re-install the app, you would lose all your work. On the hamburger icon on the project Home Screen, rename your completed files, press save then press close to remove your project from within the app. They will then be found using the Files app in the Affinity Photo folder.
  22. I suggest that if you fight against the features provided to you by Apple you will get incredibly frustrated. You have migrated to Apple for good reasons. It took me 30 years to break away from Microsoft and Google. 10 years now with Apple now and never looked back. Use iCloud and Apple Photos. Make sure optimise storage is enabled and subscribe to extra iCloud storage if you want the best experience of your new Apple devices.
