Any update here? I’ve been using Affinity on my iPad for a few years now. No changes on my end to my camera or workflow and all of a sudden I can’t import Raw images. I’ve emailed Serif repeatedly and have yet to receive a solution, just a suggestion for a workaround. Slow tech support response and no confirmation on solving the issue leave me with little hope. I may be making the move away here shortly.
If your images are in Apple Photos in iCloud, try this.
In Apple Photos press EDIT. The image should download to your iPad. Then try again to open using Import From Photos.
Note
If you have previously done some edits in Apple Photos, it should now give you the option to revert the image to RAW or allow you to continue editing using the JPG version of the image.

Ok, this is a major bug.
Have seen posts on this, but those are from March 27ish….and it’s now April 18th.
iPad Pro, 12.9” v. 3, 256G storage with only 115G used.
After working on some images, I went to export as a PNG file….everything worked fine, image saved as png file using ‘Share’ option as always (and have done for quick exports for years) into the Photos Library.
Work on 4-5 separate images, exporting using the ‘Share’ option as before after each.
Check the Photo Library…. 5 images of the very first one image exported- not each separate image exported, but 5 of the first initial image exported at the start.
I’ve performed a Hard Reset of iPad, to clear cache, restarted the App but same results.Worked fine up until now. Now….if I want duplicates of something I worked on after the first initial export, great.
Other than that is extremely problematic…as I have to close and restart the App each time working on an image, then test if it exported correctly.
Help!
Already logged, and yes still a problem

...but it seems only in this one document, as far as I can tell.
Everything seems OK in "Layer X" — proper xparency mode, xfer mode, proper brush, proper color picked, start swirling the Pencil around, and... nothing. Repeatedly. This also happens on brand-new layers created in this same document. Xfer mode is always Normal at 100% opacity, test it out with a 200 pixel brush in the loudest red I can pick, and... nothing. Repeatedly. Just went nuts. Scribbled like a madman all over every layer, nothing, no visible result.
Went and created a fresh, brand-new file, grabbed the 200px screaming red brush, and — yep, lots and lots of red, scribbling perfectly all over the page.
Ideas...?
Make sure 'Protect Alpha' is not turned on.

Also, on the rare occasions when it’s working the raw file opens in the Photo persona, not the Develop persona.
Unfortunately that is out of Serif's hands, Apple photos has a habit of sharing JPEG versions of RAW images.
However, try this new work around if you have previously edited in Apple Photos or have a RAW+JPG image which is a common setting on many cameras. The first time I open this Canon CR2 file the local optimised JPEG is opened in Photo mode.
After I revert to RAW by dropping into Apple Photos edit, then it opens in Develop mode via the share sheet interface.
Note how it downloads the original file to the iPad first from iCloud where the original RAW is safely stored.

Hi again!
The problem is that it’s not working when I have the exact same settings that you have. When I’m in Apple Photos and have an open image I want to open in Affinity I go to the square and arrow symbol and click on it, then I click on my shortcut and nothing happens. Affinity does not open. Except for some photos. A few will open, most will not. This could be images from the same day, in the same album, taken with the same lens and camera, in the same format, one minute apart. One will open in Affinity, the next one won’t. I’m starting to think this is a bug of some kind, not a setting problem. I’m gonna try to open Dan C’s shortcut now to see if it helps. You have tried a Forced Restart haven't you ? First thing to try when Apple devices don't behave as predicted. This is not the same a powering off and on as it resets more hardware on the subsequent startup.

When I write “click”, I mean tap, long press, banging my iPad against the table, cursing and yelling. Tried everything. Highly annoying.
Maybe I’m not being clear, if you think of a mouse you have left click and right click, on these shortcut fields you also have two different actions, a tap or a long press which bring up completely different options.

I've noticed recently in Photo on my iPad, that I'm unable to Import From Cloud or Open From Cloud.
When I use either option I get a file navigator dialog, and I can navigate to one of my accessible network drives, and I can see the files. They show as selectable (not grayed out).
But if I click on one of them, nothing happens. If I long-press, I can use Get Info, which shows everything correctly. But if I then press/click the Open button, nothing happens.
Is there some known problem with this?
I would even accept (though reluctantly) having to copy the file to my iPad, but I can't figure out how to do that, either.
Never tried this before Walt so thought I would quickly give it a go for you, seems to work fine. I would as always recommend rebooting both your iPad and your remote storage.

My apologies, things change, the issue to remember, you can do a TAP or a LONG PRESS on an option field to bring up various options, hopefully this new from scratch using OPEN FILE option shows that.

BUMP
Seeing other reports on my Facebook group about this on 2020 iPads. Still happening on release version iPadOS 15.4.1.

Once again this maddening reoccurring problem has arrived. When will this be fixed?
The clone brush will not pick a sample when I press and hold. So frustrating. This has been happening off and on for years!🤯🤯
Welcome to the forums.
Make sure you have selected the correct layer or you have the tool set on the context toolbar to ‘this layer and below’ or make sure you do not have ‘protect alpha’ turned on. You will have one of these set wrong or possibly you have not rasterised the layer to ensure you are NOT working on an image layer when you need to be working on a pixel layer.

I start using Affinity Designer recently and notice the “X” icon at bottom left that deselects current layer/object, why is this not available (or haven’t found it) yet in Affinity Photo.
Agreed, also the snapping magnet I would like in this same space as per Designer, I am forever having to toggle snapping on and off in photo.

Welcome to the forums, please can you upload the raw image from your camera, you can attach files when you post and that way others can see if the same problem occurs on other devices.

My app is having issues with saving the correct photos to my iPad.
It will save/export the first photo to my iPad and any photo that I save after that will actually save another copy of the first photo I exported.
The problem will correct itself if I close and restart the app. But then it will save the first photo and the problem reoccurrs.
I’ve deleted the app and reloaded it. The problem remains. My work around for this is on the export dialog press PNG then share then JPG then share and check the tiny preview icon is correct. Repeat these steps again if it hasn’t changed.

Hi Alfred,
Thank you so much for your reply. I apologize for my late reply.
There are no purchased items in my account and also Paypal does not show any transactions. I will try to choose another payment to buy Affinity Designer. However, I have little hope if that will make any difference because when I try to get free apps, the same progress spinning wheel takes forever. Also, the iPad is in the close neighbourhood of the modem.
Thank you for your help which I do appreciate.

I note that the ability to pay using Paypal is region dependent and the small note (2) at the bottom of this page suggests you need to contact Paypal to authorise this method. I would therefore make sure you have location services turned on so that Paypal and Apple know which country you are in. I also think you would be have more success adding you credit card to your Apple account. You need to have a working payment method even for free apps.

Do we know if this is in Apple's hands or Affinity Tech ?
My thoughts are that 15.4 has changed the access to the extra iPad RAM on newer devices so it is a 50/50 bug likely needing Serif to update its memory allocations libraries to catch up with Apples changes.
My work around is on the export dialogue, press JPG, press PNG, press JPG, press share, take a look at tiny icon to see if it looks correct then save image. If it doesn't repeat these steps.

I tried doing that and it didn’t work. The only thing that works is to change the name of the image to be exported.
There is a bug not fixed yet, my work around is on the export dialogue, press JPG then press PNG then press JPG and then SHARE, look at the tiny ICON and check it has changed, if not repeat the above and try again.

Took me longer than it should to spot the thumbnail as well, wasn't till i used the B/W adjustment and deleted it that i did
I've also logged this against Designer
V1.10.5 updated today does not fix this bug but looks like an attempt has been made to fix it but occasionally it still fails.

I am using the iPadOS 15.4 on a 12.9” fifth generation model. Details: Projects save fine, but when I open a project and make new modifications then want to export those changes. I open the Documents pop-down window and select EXPORT, at the export screen I can select what format PNG, JPEG, GIFF, etc…. after selecting the export type lets say JPEG, I then select the SHARE option in lower left of the screen, then select the SAVE IMAGE it will saves to my iPad photos. The image will save but it will not save any of the new modifications that I made, the only way to save the modified project outside of Affinity Photo or Designer is to close the app and reopen it, then the export save image will save the modified project to iPad photos.
Thanks for the responses, this is my first time having an annoying issue. This sounds like a known issue in iPadOS 15.4
Yes that is the same problem I have reported, the Dev's are aware of it and a new version 1.10.5 is available in the app store today that hopefully fixes it.
EDIT: Nope bug is still there in V1.10.5 but looks like an attempt has been made to fix it but occasionally it still fails.iPadOS 15.4 export bug

Adding to the above, if you have an early iPad with only 2GB RAM, I have had file corruption by simply task switching, to the point I got used to not task switching without returning to the home screen first. This is something that was out of Serif's hands and the way iPadOS handles RAM when apps are placed in the background.

We are aware of this issue caused by the iPadOS 15.4 update that was just release and it has been logged with our developers, as this is an Apple update issue hopefully they will release a hotfix shortly.
It was in every iPadOS 15.4 beta version as well so I didn't bother reporting it expecting the release version to fix it.

Hi @Paul Mudditt,
I've replicated this and will get it logged with the Dev team.
You can also you see when it's going to happen, as when you go to Export>Share the thumbnail shown will be for the previous edit you've done.
Good. Also looks like same in Designer as well.
Took a while to spot that thumbnail, first time I have ever noticed it 😂! -
