It is troublesome to reselect the pen type and change the line width each time you draw with a path.  Also, is it possible to change the line width like Adobe's Illustrator?

In Affinity Designer you can use the stroke studio to adjust the line width, if you are using Affinity Photo you have to select the pen tool to adjust the line width unfortunately.

    Hi all,

As per the title, I am having trouble converting about a thousand photos to jpeg using the batch job function. It seems to always crash when 60+ images have been converted when I have all 1000 images selected as a batch job. However, I seem to be able to convert in smaller batches of say 150.

Why is this the case and is there something I can do to get affinity to accept all 1000 images as a batch job?

Some additional info: the source images are from a portable HDD, and I’m trying to export the jpgs to that same drive as well.

Reading and writing so many files will create an enormous demand for power, if you don’t have the HDD powered externally then that could be exceeding the capability of the iPad USB C port to power it properly. If so try powering your HDD either directly or via a USB-C hub that can be powered.

    Thank You.

The way „from Photos to AP” is better because in Photos there is ability to compare photos which are very similar and choose better one.

But way „import from Photos” simply works.

    Darek

    BTW.

When I try to copy/save (Save command in Shortcuts) file from Photos to „on my ipad” folder I receive „no permission” message.

    And nothing helps, even restart.

You are not use the Lossless Compression version of the ARW files are you?

    Hi All

Still getting to grips with this (I also have the desktop version for Mac)

I have an issue with the brush guides not showing when the brush is selected (Also happens with Smart Selection brush)

On desk top it appears as a white circle and with a cross hair

The brush paints ok but you can't see where its going to be

No doubt its a settings thing but I can't figure it

    Can anyone help please

    Cheers

    Derek

That feature requires a mouse to be used so that the position of the cursor can be known before mouse button is pressed, unfortunately the iPad cannot figure out where the pencil is or your finger until you touch the screen. Possibly in the future an iPad mouse or magic keyboard trackpad location will be added to allow such a feature to be available.

Thanks for sending that to me! Does anyone know if affinity is workin on a fix for it? It’s been a problem for me on iPadOS 15.4, 15.5, and now 15.6. According to the App Store, they haven’t released an update in 4 months… so I’m assuming they might be working on a more major update of some sort.

It is an awful awful bug to not have been fixed by now.

But dont you think the Cut Out is not perfect? I mean it does need some work some tidying up work that needs to be done?

This was a particular difficult image I chose because of the lack of contrast difference yet it still makes a decent guess at a cutout that would require minimal tidy up. Results on easier subjectslike my grandson is obviously superior. Very stable release for me. Only gets a bit buggy when using second full screeen 27" display from my M1 iPad Pro.image.thumb.png.c324988adc82315baaaafc0d5192e43e.png

People using Affinity Photo on the iPad. Now that the Public Beta of iPad OS 16 is out have any of you guys tried the inbuilt functionality of background removal from photo that comes with iPad OS 16 ? How is it ? Does it give a perfect cut out ?

    Please share you experience ?

It is fab, as are the other DAM features like ability to copy and paste edits to multiple photos in one step and automatic duplicate finding and merging. Probably the best DAM to use with Affinity now on Mac and iPad.

I just downloaded Affinity Photo for my 3 month old iPad. I opened a photograph that I am trying to rid of some dust and scratches but none of the tools within Affinity photo appear to be working. I tap on the tool with my Apple Pencil (the paint tool for example) and then drag my pencil over the photo and nothing happens. Same result with ALL of the other tools on the left hand side of the application. Same result when using my fingers. I have also toggled the gestures only setting on and off but nothing works.

What am I doing wrong? I will admit that I am new to Affinity Photo but I used Photoshop in the past with no problems to remove dust/scratches to my photos…so I know a bit.

    Thanks!

Look at the layers panel, if it says ‘image” on a layer select the layer then rasterise it first. Alternatively, add a pixel layer above and for each tool you use make sure on the context toolbar across the bottom that the tool is set to ‘current layer and below’. This way you can fix scratches etc non-destructively.

  9. Not sure if this is relevant but on looking at this design on my Mac, I was wondering if your problems were anything to do with using image layers rather than pixel layers, because I had seen many problems previously using image layers and pixel operations.

So when I tried to rasterise the image layer on my Mac Affinity Photo crashed, so may be worth starting again but since you are doing pixel operations to rasterise the image layers first.

I use an iPad 2018 256GB, current version of Affinity Photo

Try closing all open apps then doing a Forced Restart

    Forced Restart
On older iPads this is done by pressing home and power buttons continuously until you see the Apple logo.
On newer models in quick succession press Volume Up then Volume Down then press and hold the power button continuously until you see the Apple Logo.

If that does not work, save all your work to an iCloud folder then delete and re-install your app. Make sure to save all your work outside of the app and not in the OnMyiPad folder as it will be deleted by iPadOS when you delete the app.

    I have a foto with 5312px x 2988px and 96dpi, which is 73" x 41" wide.

    Are you sure about your dimensions because  5312/96 = 55", 2988/96 = 31.125"

I would recommend a different approach that works on iPad and Desktop versions, instead :-

    1. Use Document->resize document, deselect resample as you do not want the image resampled, change the units to pixels, THEN change DPI from 96 to 300 THEN click resize.

    2. Select resize document again then change units back to inches, click resize.

By doing this you have change DPI from 96->300 without resampling the image so all your original pixels are still intact.

    3. Now use the crop tool as desired.

Yes, I have already done that and it doesn't work, the separate vector objects are not changed when cutting and pasting in another document, but if I copy the whole design, if it is changed, and it increases the line thickness points exactly double, x2, for example a vector with 15pt is pasted with 30pt in the other document.

Did you make sure DPI was the same on each document?

I want to draw my home plan (according to the real measures) so I can see If the furnitures I buy will fit or not.

    1) I think I need a ruler. So I can start drawing from the point 0 on the ruler. So where is the ruler?

    2) How do I draw straight lines? (Vertical or Horizontal)

    3) How would I know the measurements of the lines I draw? (Like 36.4 cm etc.) Or How would I draw such lines in specific measures?

If there are other methods to do this could you tell me please? Thank you very much.

    1) There is no ruler, use the Transform studio to set exact sizes.

    2) Use 2 finger modifier whilst drawing second point on a line with the pen tool in line mode. If you have not watched the Serif tutorials, now is the time to do so.

    3)See answer to 1)

I thought I needed 300 DPI for printing.

I'm not seeing how to choose DPOI

    Screen Shot 2022-05-13 at 8.30.07 AM.png

Use Resize document, leave the dimensions at 8ft x 6ft if they are the dimensions intented and drop the DPI as suggested. At the moment your document is 28'800 x 21'600 which is at least ten times the size your need. I would drop DPI to 72DPI or even lower.

This is still a current problem.

On my 256Gb iPad Air 4, the Settings app shows AF using more storage than possible. Eventually, AF actually does consume too much storage and I’m forced to delete it, simply to use other apps (such as LumaFusion).

I have deleted and reinstalled AF numerous times to reclaim its storage. Then I reimport my AF projects from the Files app, and everything is OK, for a while. But as I continue to use AF, its storage grows and I have to repeat the deletion/reinstallation.

I would recommend you do not import your projects unless you intend to work on them again immediately. Create a folder structure using iCloud files app and store your work there for future use, not within the app.
