Do you have a version of the symmetry/mirror tool when using the vector persona in Designer?

I know there is a mirror tool, but you have to switch to the pixel persona in Designer, and I was looking to use the mirror tool when creating vector artwork.

There is an online trick to mimic the mirror tool, but it isn’t intuitive/automatic.

    Thank you!

Sorry for the long delay in replying to this request but the Serif team and the secondary support team of simply users like myself have been answering as many as possible as quickly as possible.

You can use vector tools to create symmetry / mirror work and I guess it is a trick but it is not that hard to do.

    In this quick example:-

    1.  I set this up by creating a simple rectangle for the left hand side of the page.
    2. I added this rectangle as a symbol in the symbols studio
    3. I inserted this rectangle symbol back in the document and positioned on right hand side.
    4. I then started drawing on top of the left hand side, if it does not get duplicated on the right hand side I simply lift my new shape or curve onto the original left hand side symbol in the layers panel. Any thing added to the first instance of the symbol is repeated in the second.
    5. I then selected the right hand symbol instance and mirrored it and that’s it really.

Obviously this is easy to repeat using a rectangle that covers one quarter of  the screen then add 3 instances of the symbol and mirror vertically horizontally or both as appropriate.

Hope this helps, it really is easy once you try.

    Apologies again for late response.

On desktop versions it only takes double-click with Move (Select) tool, or single click with Node tool to select an object element no matter how deep it is within the clipping mask stack. But it just doesn't work on Ipad version. How do you do it? And please don't tell me to select from the layer panel. Thanks

edit: I figured it out. The problem is that if the path that creates clipping mask is open, it doesn’t allow me to select objects inside. But, as soon as I close the path, I can select everything inside as usual. This should be fixed.

I was trying to undo and noticed it wasn’t doing anything, so I opened the history panel and was greeted by this. Now allll my history actions are gone, which I was heavily relying on. As far as I know I didnt do anything out of the ordinary that would’ve caused this. What gives?? :(

Can I ask if this problem is still occurring and the version of Affinity Photo for iPad you are using, which iPad model and and which version of iPadOS you are seeing the problem on.?

When using the text effects dialogue in affinity designer 2 for iPad, there are right arrows to go to a sub-dialogue. When returning to the main dialogue, it sometimes comes up blank. When this happens the dialogue is unusable. A workaround is to close the file and reopen it, which resets the dialogue.

I think this problem may have been fixed in the last update, can you do a screen recording if it still occurs and post it here?

When I am trying to subtract or add to an existing mask, the mask outline does not update until I exit to the main screen and then open the image back up.  I am using the latest Ipad Pro with most recent update.

I tried to replicate this but it seems to work fine now so I think this problem may have been fixed in the last update. Are you still experiencing this problem ?

There has been a FAQ added which may mean you have already fixed your problem?

Are you still having a problem with this?

I’m new to Affinity on iPad but not on PC. Whenever I slow down using the pen tool or dragging items around on the canvas, a small magnifier appears for helping with movements, which is great, except for the lag that come with it.

Is it possible to toggle this off, or nullify the lag?

I’m really liking the embedded RAW file functionality and the ability to go back to the Develop Persona and edit an Overlay adjustment. It works well with Gradient Overlays that when you go back and select an overlay, you can see the start/finish handles of the gradient so you can reposition it. However, I can’t figure out how to see a Brush Overlay to edit it . I was expecting to be able to switch the red overlay back on ( as when you orginally paint) so I can fine tune it. Is it possible to do this or do I have to rely on guesswork?

There may have been an update in that area as now when I go to the overlays studio not only can I adjust the brush overlay but I can use the brush again to add to the overlay and use the erase brush to remove part or all of the overlay, I hope that helps?

This happens ALOT! My only solution so far is to restart affinity, but this doesnt always work.

The problem is that many times i want to place a photo, either from cloud or files, but everything is greyed (not clickable)… this happens atleast once every time i use the application and its getting really annoying.

    Any solution ?

Is it possible to update the selection of colours in the ‘quick colours’ section of the colour menu? What I’m specifically referring to appears at the bottom of the colour menu, and the default options are black, grey, white, and blue. I was wondering if this could be changed as it is a convenient feature, but I don’t work in that blue. I know it seems silly, but it would be cool if I could update just one of those for the way I like to work, without having to create a swatches palette which would only serve as the same thing.

It would allow me to stay on the colour wheel/sliders without jumping back and forth into swatches. Like I said, I know it seems silly but I’m hoping it’s possible.

That seems an excellent idea but there is no way to customise in the current version but a request for new features can be placed here :-

  11. Yes they have changed it slightly and when using my finger it tends to work but if I do all steps using Apple pencil you do seem to have to do the additional tap on the already selected setting to get it to stick, and, most importantly it does not work like the V1 app or the desktop apps who don't need the extra tap.

It is still a bug to be fixed in my opinion.

    Hello Everyone,

I wonder if anyone can suggest how I may go about getting and using illuminated fonts. I don't simply mean colored fonts nor the use of effects. I would like to be able to create really fancy and colorful letters. Ideally, I would like the fonts but would also like some UI that would help me select and use various colors on them in a consistent way. Next to that wish would come a set of vector characters where in, say, Designer, I could color each piece by hand and then scale them. My last option, but perhaps too much work for me, would be to simply copy a letter as an image file and paint over it in Photo.

    Kind regards,

    Robin McLeod

Not sure if this is what you mean but there are quite a few tutorials on you tube how to create illuminated text such as

    Hi

Anyone lese having issues importing assets into an ipad.... when I try from the cloud it wont even recognise the file types. Even though they are the same ones loaded into my desk top and laptop

How are you loading them, using ‘import category’?

Which cloud service are you using, iCloud and Dropbox and Onedrive work ok but Google Drive isn’t good.

Hi, is it possible to view my mask as an overlay? I saw in selection there is show mask as overlay, which sounds like it is what I want, but it doesn't appear to be working? iPad version. Using v2.

If you want to see your mask, if you go into the Layer Options (...) then select 'solo' you can see your mask more clearly if that helps.

I have been trying to import .ase files from Benjamin Moore paint company. The file imports (I think) because the title is listed in the drop down but there are no listings of colors.

My question is about AP on Windows 10. I realize this thread is more regarding iPad so sorry for that.

Also, I have already posted a question about this so, sorry for the duplicate post but I thought those that responded would receive notification and be able to provide more information.

    Example file is attached.

    Thank you!

    BenjaminMoore_WILLIAMSBURGColorCollection_en-us.ase 10.23 kB · 0 downloads

I can confirm the ase palette loads on MAC and iPad BUT shows no name and no colours, so either a faulty ASE file or Affinity cannot import ASE correctly.
