  1. You said you looked under Pixel persona, that would not show you how it looks as pixels, it still shows vectors as vectors in pixel persona. Only under Navigator can you see how it would appear as pixels or retina pixels.

Your image is very small 768pixels x 768pixels.

Look under the navigator to see how your image looks as pixels not vector view.

I would at least double your document pixel dimensions to at least 1536x1536 or preferably 3072x3072 if you want your subtle gradient shading effects to be visible when you convert from a vector format to a pixel format.

Now I'm notecing, even in old files where I used this method, it stoped working.

In pixel persona, the flood fill is not working.

    What happened?

It would help if you could upload an example affinity file or a full screen recording with the layers panel and context toolbar clearly visible so we can figure out what is going wrong.

Yes, that's what I thought. Or I could just wait until the new iPad Mini 7 comes out later. this year 🙂

I did a full reset about a week ago, and it was fine for a few days. The next step is a complete reinstall. A pain, but not as bad as having to do it on a desktop

Backup and restore is very robust now using iCloud and my preferred method, if you have tens of thousands  of photos it can take several days to fully restore. However if low level file system is damaged you may need to use a desktop restore or even more a DFU restore cycle.

  4. That is worrying, sounds like your file system may have some corruptions, you do have plenty of iPad space still left?

Assuming that is ok then I would ensure you are backed up to iCloud AND your desktop then try one or more of these:-

    1. Closing ALL OPEN apps, wait a about a minute then doing a Forced Restart. You will not lose any settings or data.  https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/ipad/ipad9955c007/ipados

    2. If that does not solve it, try Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPad -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. You will lose Wifi passwords and have to re-enter any customisations you have done eg widgets etc. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/ipad/ipad9a74dc01/ipados

    3. If that does not solve it then you will need to consider erasing your iPad and restore it from backup. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/ipad/ipad9a74c804/ipados

The Apple iOS Files app is super buggy. Can I substitute it for another Files app from the App Store and use it as the default.

All the Affinity apps appear to use the Apple Files app by default, and as a result Affinity won’t work because the Files app won’t work.

I thought I had it fixed. But nope.

I use the files app all the time and never encountered a bug, are you using it with some external device  ?

Any news on this topic? I have all my publisher files for a choir I belong to on that choir’s Google drive. I really don’t want to have to copy them, creating duplicates in the process. This runs the risk of using wrong versions at some point. I only bought the iPad version so I could make changes on the move. It seems I’ve wasted my money.

Google likes to track everything you think and everything you do so it can push advertising your way. It won't like that it can't open affinity files to inspect the contents unlike the more common data file formats hence greyed out. Because of this it is the worst cloud service, change to a proper cloud service like iCloud, Dropbox or Onedrive is the only advice I can give.

I want to use Pen mode and quickly and easily deselect when I am done drawing a curve so ,I can start to draw the next curve. In select mode one can tap the screen but in Pen Mode that just continues the curve.

    Double tap the last point.

Although the screen recording. doesn’t show it, I end each line segment by a double tap rather than a single tap.

Just saw an affinity tutorial where there was a whole list of macros displayed in the macropanel, including a "settings" icon next the macro. It could be an older version of AP.

Thank you, so the macropanel is just there to create, save, import and export. Kind regards.

The Macro studio shows you the steps record in a macro.
The Library studio is the list of all the macro categories and individual macros within each category.

  9. I am the biggest fan of Affinity but to be honest, floor plans are a speciality subject and the last things to attempt using Affinity as there is no real support for dimension lines etc. I would recommend LiveHome3D on your iPad/Mac and Windows instead as you would get a 3d render of a room as well as being able record walkthrough videos, decorate and furnish etc.

I don't think that's a lock. I believe it's a shopping bag, indicating that the brushes came from the shop.

If you have a lot of brushes installed, any manipulation of the brushes (moving them, duplicating them, etc.) can tend to take a long time. On the desktop that kind of action can take 30 seconds to 1 minute for me (on my Windows systems, at least). So I've just learned to be patient.

    ---

I believe it's correct that you can't move brushes around in the categories directly installed from the Store via the Account process. Those are maintained automatically, and it would be a mess if you installed brush category A, then moved a brush or two out to category B, and then A was updated at the Store and needed to be refreshed on your machine. So they prevent that kind of action.

In addition to your suggestion of exporting and reimporting, you could also just download the brushes from the Store manually (https://affinity.store/account/downloads) and install them manually rather than via the Account process.

Ok, shopping bag or lock symbol I still think it means you are not supposed to be able to mess them up?

Moving brushes on the iPad takes no time at all, you left swipe and select move and re-arrange brushes to your hearts content, only on these shopping bag brushes when you left swipe the move option is greyed out.

The export and import gives you a second set of brushes that are not linked to the store so you can customise them how you please, apparently.

I synced a bunch of brushes from my account to Designer & Photo on iPad. None of the new brushes have the Move option, even if I make a copy. In fact, ‘Save as new brush’ is the only option available on the recently synced brushes.

i did reboot my iPad as well.

Look at the brushes category name to tell you which are locked and which are not locked.

What you can do is tap the hamburger icon at the top right and export the locked brushes category, rename them then import them back in.and you will see the lock symbol will vanish (whether this is supposed to happen or not !) . Note this tends to lock Affinity up (a sign that we are not allowed to do this but can?) but once you close it down and reopen the duplicated brushes category is available unlocked so you can move things about.

Hi, my question is about creating svgs for cnc toolpaths and how to deal with open and closed vectors. I'm always trying to "join" the nodes where every open vector meets a closed vector at a T intersection: adding nodes, breaking the nodes, rejoining the nodes, all with the goal of making 1 unified vector. Having learned today that that does not make 1 closed vector (my incorrect thinking lol), I don't really see a purpose to keep doing that, and it adds a lot of work time for a detailed image. Incorrectly I thought if a number of vectors need a specific toolpath, say a profile, then all those vectors needed to be joined in the svg before importing into a cnc cam program. Could anyone explain if it's best just to leave the open vectors separate from the closed vectors and then select them as needed in the cam program, or if there is a reason to join them?

I must apologies I think I went down the wrong garden path here, I think for your CNC machine you have no need of the frets in your design since your CNC cuts out a solid object?

Returning to your original guitar shape my solution is to draw the outline to your correct dimensions with a minimal visible stroke, then use the vector fill tool to create a solid object, then set the stroke to zero. Export as a single solid shape SVG to your cutting system.

So in answer to your question no point in filling in all of the details unless they serve some purpose on your cutting machine.

Thank you Paul, that really helped. When I first started learning affinity designer that was one of the videos I watched, and practiced, then filed the info at the back of my brain apparently, lol. If you're creating a profile toolpath, is there an advantage to having the bit go between two lines (say for the frets) vs having a single line for the bit to follow (stroke only so before expanding the stroke)? Just testing your file I don't really understand the advantage for doing that. Thanks again!

SVG’s for CRICUT and other systems must be a simple closed paths not strokes. As you have found there is no way to describe a t-junction in vector graphics hence, we draw it, then expand to curves so that each stroke is a shape.

Once they are shapes we can add and subtract etc to create a simple SVG that other systems can work from. Not sure if that answers your question as I have only discovered this myself after a question in my facebook groups (in my signature) recently.
