    Workaround:
(Note: even after adding text, you can still use the node tool to modify the shape, and text will reflow to fit)

Seems possible to get a better range, although I suspect I'm a little heavy-handed on the Pencil:

"Accumulation only" is better for a single stroke, but leads to more of a "marker" like effect for later overlaid strokes.

Warning: Large hard edged strokes will show the individual component circles from which the brush is composed.

Brightness and Exposure are also present in Lightroom and Photoshop (with similar meanings), although maybe not as obvious?
For a short explanation, see: https://digital-photography-school.com/exposure-vs-brightness-vs-fill-light/
Completely inaccurate summary: exposure brightens everything, brightness has more effect on the midtones.
I suspect image editing is getting to the stage where there are so many controls we can't learn (or at least remember and use) everything.

I don't yet have an iPad, but from the Windows help for Affinity Photo (I think the iPad has similar help built in, but I don't know how it compares):
Sync Before—updates the 'Before' view using the settings applied in the 'After' view. Sync After—removes all the settings applied in the 'After' view to return the image to the 'Before' view. Swap—switches the applied settings of the 'Before' and 'After' views. So, as I understand it, somewhat like Undo/Redo but using side-by-side images to compare results.
These also exist in Lightroom as graphical icons down the bottom: https://i0.wp.com/digital-photography-school.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/brightness_step2.jpg

I originally created the set to be used at work (using Illustrator) and I made this to share with the nice folks here at Affinity Forum.

Hope you guys find this useful.

    Hey,

How bananas is it that affinity was onstage at the Apple keynote?! Of everything they announced that was the only presentation that made audibly say, "woah-" not only for their work, but the fact that they're getting that kind of stage.

I am working on a big update for the Box Set of brushes, and during WWDC they'll be 20% off.

Butler To Cats got a reaction from Lee D in Designer -- Red letter 'X' inside a green ellipse
Hi aznewt, and welcome to the forum!

If you are using a hollow ellipse, with the ellipse selected, you need to make sure you are selecting the outline colour, not the fill colour, and make sure the stroke has some visible width.

Conversely, if you are using a filled (solid) ellipse, you need to make sure you are changing the fill colour, not the outline colour.

Ha!   Ninja'd by Lee while I was editing and screen capturing.  :D

    Hi Gabriel

Mac version 1.0 (well, the first beta, anyway) of Affinity Photo was released in February 2015.
Windows version was released November 2016, and both platforms were brought up to version 1.5 (using the same core code).

So far, we (as users) are looking forward to the 1.6 release (along the lines of "it will be released when it's ready").

I suspect there is no official release date planned yet for v1.7, let alone v2, so I don't think there can be an official answer for you.

Butler To Cats got a reaction from wesking in Pixel background layer
    Hi wesking

Sorry, your screenshot has not attached. Can you link to an image somewhere?

Does it only happen with a particular file?

If you opened a .jpeg file and accidentally deleted the background Pixel layer (which would show as an empty Layers panel), then saved it (still as the same .jpeg file, using File Save or Ctrl/Cmmd+S) and closed it, that is similar to opening a Word file, deleting all the text, and saving and closing (I almost managed that once with the help of a cat walking on the keyboard).
I just tried it, you cannot recover the deleted Pixel layer after this process (especially once you have closed the .jpeg file).

Do you still have an unedited copy of the original jpeg file?

If you still have the edited file open, you might be able to recover the Pixel layer as MEB suggested, by using enough Undo (Ctrl+Z on Windows, Cmmd+Z on a Mac) or the History feature (an advanced undo manager, using a slider instead of constantly hammering Ctrl/Cmmd+Z and/or Ctrl/Cmmd+Y), possibly sliding right back to the start of the slider.
If you enable the saved history feature (File menu, Save History With Document) then saved as an .afdesign or .afphoto format (rather than just re-saving the file as .jpeg), you can still Undo even after closing and re-opening the .af(something) file.

It is possible to close or move (including off-screen) some of those panels - View menu, Studio, Reset Studio will put them all back in their standard positions.

Butler To Cats got a reaction from nitrospectide in Recolor line art in Photo
    A simple alternative:
Open your scanned image, add a layer adjustment, select Curves, select the Blue channel only, make the blue curve a simple horizontal line across the top at the highest value.

A vaguely similar technique to your Photoshop technique:

    1. Duplicate the layer (copy and paste).
    2. Invert the uppermost layer (layer adjustments) and merge the adjustment layer.

You should now have an inverted version of your line art (white on black) as a layer above your line art (black on white).

    3. With the top (inverted) layer selected: Layer menu, Rasterise to Mask.
    4. Select the lowermost layer and paint or fill.

    5. You can group these two layers so the mask does not affect any other layers, or alternatively drag the uppermost Mask layer down onto the Pixel line art layer.
