  1. No need to use separate artboards. With the Export Persona, you can define layers or shapes or groups as "slices" on the same artboard, and each slice will export as a separate image (PNG, or SVG, etc) - a single button-click produces a separate image for every slice, or export an individual slice after changing the content.
  2. Refining selections for iPad (thanks to James Ritson's official iPad tutorials list):
  3. Back in October/November 2016 when the book was first released it took about 3 weeks to get to me in Australia, so hopefully it is not too far away. To get to wordsberry in New Zealand took about 4 weeks around the same time. Not sure what the situation is this time.
  4. For the benefit of future readers, here is the thread that contains the official tutorials list with Vimeo and YouTube links.
  5. Seems possible to get a better range, although I suspect I'm a little heavy-handed on the Pencil: "Accumulation only" is better for a single stroke, but leads to more of a "marker" like effect for later overlaid strokes. Warning: Large hard edged strokes will show the individual component circles from which the brush is composed.
  6. The in-built help might be useful, credits to Lee D for this: The ever-growing list of video tutorials does include one on opening and developing RAW files.
  7. You can get trial versions of Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo for the desktop (Windows and MacOS) here: Afinity Photo trial - image editing software, for photographers and photographic manipulation Affinity Designer trial - vector editing software, for designers and illustrators Be aware: the trial versions only run for 10 days. Main site for Affinity programs
  8. In another smoke tutorial by the same author, they refer to the smoke brushes here: http://xresch.deviantart.com/art/22-Normal-Smoke-Brushes-197982419 How to import Photoshop ABR brushes into Affinity Photo (iPad version): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/42163-import-brushes-from-desktop-softwares/
  9. Video tutorials for Affinity Designer are here. Tutorials that cover new/changed features in 1.5 have a (1.5) after the tutorial name/link.
  10. Affinity Designer for iPad/iOS is under development, but we (the users) just don't know when it will be released. Serif staff, of course, know that "it will be released when it's ready".
  11. If you drag onto the tab area (where the filenames are shown) it will open as a new document. Middle-mouse-click (or mousewheel click) on a tab will close that individual document, which might be a tad faster than Ctrl+W, depending on how you work
  12. Hi Rayderion I've noticed recently that several legitimate and trustworthy web sites have now changed to a system where you go "pay with PayPal", enter your PayPal details and "Pay now", and are then returned to the web site where you still need to click the "Place order" to finalise the whole thing and actually finish the order and payment, instead of the final order/payment happening at the PayPal "Pay now" stage like it does on simpler order systems. At a guess, PayPal is confirming that the account exists and can pay the required amount, but is not getting charged until you confirm with "Place order" back on the website. Possibly this is what is happening here? Can't remember how my Affinity order went through.
  13. @R C-R, I searched for sync, and got 2 results Developing a raw image Toolbar The sync and swap explanations (and icons) were listed under both (on pages with a range of other stuff as well). Some quick search testing: for me, on Windows, sync after and sync before also seem to work - hmm, so does after after AND sync (Could it be the help system supports Boolean operators? Be still my beating heart  - unless it's also searching for the word and  - as some search engines do  - or and is a search stopword, and thus ignored, which is also a known behaviour in some search engines).
  14. Brightness and Exposure are also present in Lightroom and Photoshop (with similar meanings), although maybe not as obvious? For a short explanation, see: https://digital-photography-school.com/exposure-vs-brightness-vs-fill-light/ Completely inaccurate summary: exposure brightens everything, brightness has more effect on the midtones. I suspect image editing is getting to the stage where there are so many controls we can't learn (or at least remember and use) everything. I don't yet have an iPad, but from the Windows help for Affinity Photo (I think the iPad has similar help built in, but I don't know how it compares): Sync Before—updates the 'Before' view using the settings applied in the 'After' view. Sync After—removes all the settings applied in the 'After' view to return the image to the 'Before' view. Swap—switches the applied settings of the 'Before' and 'After' views. So, as I understand it, somewhat like Undo/Redo but using side-by-side images to compare results. These also exist in Lightroom as graphical icons down the bottom: https://i0.wp.com/digital-photography-school.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/brightness_step2.jpg
  15. This is mostly theoretical knowledge only, I don't currently have an iPad: Probably something like Xender or SHAREit - temporarily makes your iPad into a web server, as I understand it, either using your home WiFi or making your iPad a hotspot (neither requires internet access, it's working on purely local networking). I think SHAREit requires an app on both ends (iPad and computer), while Xender uses a web browser on the computer end. SHAREit includes other features (e.g. Powerpoint slide controller), while Xender seems to be purely file transfer. There are some other apps that do something similar, and I think iTunes can do direct file transfer (they've bolted everything they can onto that monster, and I can understand your reluctance to use it - I've used it in the past). iMazing apparently does direct cable transfer without iTunes. Alternatively, you can use a USB drive or stick with the appropriate adapter (for some USB devices you might need to supply external power to the adapter via the Lightning port beside the USB port Note: it is not a second data port, it is for extra power).
  16. Hi, InfinitePhotos! As Alex/A_B_C said, that is a customer beta. However, you can get trial versions of both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo for the desktop: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/signup/trial/photo/ https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/signup/trial/designer/ Be aware, the trial versions only run for 10 days. Main site: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/
  17. Depending on what features you need, Blackmagic Fusion might be another alternative.
  18. Customer 1.6 betas for Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer are now available via pinned posts in the beta section of the forum, if you want to try a light version of the user interface (alternatively, have a quick look at the screenshot on the blog). Edit menu, Preferences, User Interface to select the light UI. Personally I prefer the dark interface, but I don't begrudge those with different predilections. Note: you can already change the workspace background (only the middle working area, not the surrounding controls) to white, through Edit menu, Preferences, User Interface and moving the Background Grey Level slider all the way to the right. You can also lighten the dark controls just a fraction by doing the same with the UI Gamma slider. And hello to a fellow Aussie! Ex-Queenslander brought low (well, south) here.
  19. "[...] View or Zoom tools selected." (not menu) They look like a magnifying glass or a hand on the toolbar.
  20. Hi aznewt, and welcome to the forum! If you are using a hollow ellipse, with the ellipse selected, you need to make sure you are selecting the outline colour, not the fill colour, and make sure the stroke has some visible width. Conversely, if you are using a filled (solid) ellipse, you need to make sure you are changing the fill colour, not the outline colour. Ha! Ninja'd by Lee while I was editing and screen capturing. :D
  21. Did it ask you to restart your computer after installing the platform update? If not, try restarting. Note: there are a limited set of computers models that have a hybrid combination of on-board Intel and AMD video hardware that might lead to a Windows 7 crash when restarted after the platform update is installed. See the extra update from Microsoft if this happens.
  22. If you turn on Snap to shape key points, and use the Node tool to select both curves, you can snap node A on one curve to node B on another curve (without necessarily being the end nodes as in Join Curves). They don't "connect" as in stay joined, as in a mesh, but they will occupy the same location and, if you drag a box around both snapped points to select them with the Node tool, you can drag them both around as if they were connected. You can also use the Snap to object geometry option to snap anywhere on a curve, without a node being present.
  23. Assuming you are talking about blending modes, that would also be Screen in Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer.
  24. I find using the Final Cut Pro X preset gives me layers and layer naming when importing PSD files from Affinity Designer into Moho.
