+1 to this from my site...
We definitely need this feature! Please, please, please include an automated optical kerning algorithm to make text look good in less time. Manual kernig is great, but the time it takes will never be payed by a client.

Thank you and keep up the great work!

maybe I'm missing it, but is there an option to open a JPEG, or bitmap image
and trace,or convert it to a vector file for further editing? If not there should be one, it would be a great option. even if it had only a few modes like black and white, and 5 color
it would make me convince me to convert from adobe illustrator

Affinity's constraints feature is great, but limited. I just stumbled upon something that would make our lives so much better:

    http://westonthayer.com/writing/2016/07/27/layout-experiments-in-adobe-illustrator/
    It's even open source: https://github.com/WestonThayer/Bloks

    Please Affinity MAKE IT HAPPEN!

EDIT: I just played around a bit and (although working with Illustrator again is a real pain when you are used to Affinity Designer) the principle of "Bloks" is pretty awesome. Unpolished and incomplete but awesome.

    Hello all!
Contrary to usual belief that only Adobe XD, Figma, Invision are great at UI design, I have a strong feeling that Affinity Designer has more scope to grow because it has a lot more to offer. Designer is intuitive, has WAY MORE control over curves than the popular UI design tools and is a complete design software while the others just barely are one. Affinity sure doesn't have prototyping, but otherwise it is a killer application for UI development, because I get to work with things as small as the pixel perfection of icons in the UI to something as broad as having symbols, constraints and even re-usable assets.
According to me, Adobe XD, Figma, etc., are "Tools" but Affinity Designer feels like a (end-to-end) "Solution" to all UI design needs.
But I believe there are two little things that Affinity Designer currently needs to do to make the life of a UI designer better:
    1. Auto Layout: Affinity's Constraints feature is amazing. It is simple yet very effective when it comes to UI design in Affinity Designer. But it lacks when I add text, that will be changed at different instances, as an element inside constraint group. The text flows into the group and there is no option to set the basic padding beyond which the container resizes according to the height/width of the text that is set to auto layout. Same thing happens when I need any design element to resize according to the padding and not just as a relative size of the parent container.
2.Design System Library: This is a simple one. I'm not sure if this is very important but here I go. I know .afassets, .afpalatte & .afbrushes exist. But it will be awesome if we can combine those files and send it out as one file, a .aflibrary for example, that when loaded, loads up the .afassets, .afpalatte & more at once. This could also mean something to other designers as well. Say the designer develops a icon system, brush style, color palatte and a highlighting system (quotations and more) for a book, he/she, just has to send the ".aflibrary" file to a co-designer (or even if he/she sells that design system) that loads all the required assets into the respective panes at once.
Hope this is a usefull suggestion.
    Have a great day everyone!
EDIT: Also, it will be great if the above mentioned ".aflibrary" file also gets saved along with the normal affinity file unlike the other asset files like afassets afpalatte and so on. This saving together could be an option like saving history.

+1 from my site also to this thread here... Can we at least get some kind of tags like "feature request seen", "feature request accepted", "in development" and "included in version x" or any update?

HiroKhan got a reaction from loukash in Font dialog – Searching for fonts (Designer, Publisher, Photo)
    Hey,
I found a bug that persists since many versions of Designer, Publisher and Photo regarding fonts and font replacements. I did a small research, but didn't found anything regarding this. It's not a big deal, but still annoying...

When replacing/choosing fonts you're normally able to search for them (filter fonts by keywords). In my example in the attachments, it's Open Sans.
So when typing in a font family in any dialog, it doesn't search for this font in my font library. Searching for fonts simply doesn't work. So I guess it should work like a search field like it does for example in InDesign (2. attachments)
As I said, it's not a big deal, but annoying in daily workflow (especially because the font dialog is so small and if you have a big font collection you need to scroll all the way down to find the font family you need)

So, please have a look at it.
Thank you and keep up the great work!

YES - WE NEED OPTICAL KERNING! Affinity Publisher is not a useful program until it has OPTICAL KERNING. And Optical Kerning also in Affinity Designer, of course!

I'm new to Publisher and while I've been really impressed by it generally, I'm massively disappointed that there doesn't appear to be an optical kerning feature? I noticed several other (albeit older?) threads on here regarding optical kerning so I hope I'm right in saying that it currently isn't a feature on v1.9 and I've not been going mad looking for something that's hidden in plain sight?
Optical kerning is the one thing stopping me from swapping from Indesign to Publisher completely as it's a feature I use so often. Not everyone wants to manually kern every project (not every project needs it) and it's even more of a pain when you're not working in English.
I really hope they implement it soon, it doesn't really compete with Indesign without it.
(Also does anyone from Serif ever see the forums?)

Designer's boolean operations, such as subtract, etc. work w. closed shapes. What is happening is that when you try to subtract an open line, the software tries to close the line. What you need to do is select the line, and w. the node tool, create 2 new nodes where the line should then be broken. Those can then be selected one after another, each time using the "break line" widget. After the line is broken at those 2 points, there will be 3 curves shown in the layer panel. Delete the one that isn't needed.

Messages indicate that there will be a knofe tool in the future to make this easier.
