  1. Panorama of Banska Bystrica city square posted to show use of the topics above. I do try to keep my grey cells active. Again thanks to forum members for their help and advice.
  2. Affinity is a magic programme. Even a 71 year old can use it (with the help of the Affinity Forum members) When I went to school we did not even have an electronic calculator and computers were a dream in Dan Dare comics. Compare the two images which have been adjusted with affinity tools. The panorama was processed in Affinity from 7 images. I used MESH-WARP to straighten one lamp post, after the forum members introduced me to this tool. Comments welcomed John Edwin in exile
  3. Hi Alfred, Thanks for informing me. I was not really aware that there are two accounts in operation, Maybe it stems from the old serif photo software, or perhaps I lost my details in the past and therefore accidentally created a secondary account. Today I reached the ripe old age of 71 ( correction from previous post when I said I would be 72 ) Dementia catches up with us all. So if a moderator wants to roll my accounts into one then I don't mind as long as I know which one is the primary account to be used in the future. Affinity Forum is a great help to me. Just one question which you might be able to help me with please. Is there a video tutorial for the MESH-WARP tool. Thanks again for being in touch. John Edwin in exile.
  4. Hi to the Forum members, OK I am reasonably satisfied with my image below now. Not perfect but good enough for what I need this image for. Affinity Forum is the best Forum I have ever come across. Thanks again fro such effective help...................... Regards John Edwin Skelton in exile in the Slovak Republic.
  5. Hi smadell, What a pity you guys are not in my home town of Banska Bystrica. I owe you a beer or maybe three. Below is my first attempt at using the mesh warp tool. When I was an apprentice printer we were still using copper plates that had been etched from a glass master screen in ferric acid.......... So I have a lot to learn. PS Take a look at the video I made for beer brewed in Banska Bystrica, when I was on holiday in La Rochelle. I am a bit better at video than single images. Well maybe. I will be 72 tomorrow. The link might not appear because I have set some restrictions on Vimeo....... We will see. I can send the link by e-mail to anyone interested. Thanks a million for helping me https://vimeo.com/user57039819/urpiner-passes-lips-other-beers-dont-meet
  6. Hi To D Wright, Hello from a sunny Banska Bystrica. I managed to do what you suggested before I posted my question, but the problem is that lens distortion works on other areas of the image and now the area below the statue has become curved,,,,,,, Yes the leaning clock tower is much better than before in your returned image. Maybe there is no solution that will only work on one specific area of an image.
  7. Hi can any forum members help or direct me to a video tutorial to enable the clock tower (only the clock tower) to be straightened. The rest of the picture is reasonably correct. The Banska Bystrica Clock Tower does lean to the left like the tower in Pisa, but it is not a curved lean ! Please see the attached image. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi Guys, I am eternally grateful to the help so far. I have made a start on making ' ARTBOARDS ' I can appreciate the reason for using this process. But I have made some errors in my work flow already. I will now make a new start using the template kindly provided by Jens Krebs. I am trying to help a local Slovak Artist gain some international recognition. The local Art Circles here are really a bit snobbish and if you have not been to Art College or passed a University degree course, then they just ignore talent outside their inner circles. When I have my mock up ready I will try to remember to post back with a copy of my first Trifold leaflet composition. In my time as a Letterpress printer, I have literally printed many tens of thousands if not a couple of million of them, without giving a moments thought as to how they were laid out by the compositors. Best regards to the forum members again for the help so far. John Edwin in freezing Banska Bystrica in the Slovak Republic.
  9. Hi Alfred, Thanks for your help. I would happily 'BUY' a series of templates to save me having to learn about 'ARTBOARDS' and other setting up procedures. Fifty five years ago I was an apprentice letterpress printer working with the old Gutenberg process of pieces of lead spacing and cast lead typefaces. I was not the page compositor. When I wanted something prepared for printing I gave the details to my equivalent in the compositing department and the work was prepared and sent to me, locked in a metal frame, to put on the machine. Seriously at the age of 70 and a half, my grey cells are becoming slow, blurry and getting less and less receptive to battering my brain into action. Nevertheless I will try to get the artboards created as you suggest. Just as an aside, I can still remember the first 4 colour picture I was allowed to print when I was about 18 years old. 4 photographically etched copper plates (which cost a fortune to produce) had to be printed on 'fine art paper' in sequence with incredibly accurate precision. It took me about a week to print off 500 or so copies. The image has stuck in my mind. It was of a Grey Heron poised to catch a fish in the river. Sadly I don't have a copy of this work. Best regards John Edwin Skelton in exile in Slovakia
  10. Hi Affinity Forum Members, Maybe I have got the wrong end of the stick but I think that DESIGNER means a programme that I can design leaflets etc in easily. Therefore my logic says go to new document setup and find the A4 trifold template and set it in Landscape, press the enter key and a template should load for front and back pages. Am I asking too much from a programme labeled 'DESIGNER' I can't find such a new document set up !!!! OK then what about being able to load a blank new template which has the cutting margins, folds and text areas set up for trifold landscape new document...................... My grey cells are depreciating by the hour and I would appreciate all the help in organising documents so I can just place and insert text and images easily. Await forum help on the above issue please. John Skelton in Slovak Republic
  11. Hi to the Affinity Designer community, I am looking for a pre-prepared BLANK portrait business card template in A4 size. So that I can drop in jpeg business cards to snap to a preprepared grid of cutting lines and safe zones. I am happy to buy this template. Does it exist please. An example of my prototype design is attached to this query Or is there an easy way that I can produce one, bearing in mind that I am over 70 years old and my grey cells are depreciating rapidly. Thanks in advance to the Affinity community for thinking about my problem. John Skelton
  12. Hi to forum members. I am struggling with the creation of realistic, easily produced, shadows from cut out images. As a bumbling white haired 70 plus computer amateur if anyone could direct me to a video tutorial or step by step instructions I would be internally grateful. Affinity photo cut our tools are very powerful and from my point of view, with rapidly depreciating grey cell bank I have been stumped in producing nice shadow effects. It is not possible to produce the shadow as the photograph is being taken. I am often cutting out individual objects from the center of images. Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help in directing me in the right direction John Edwin Skelton in exile in the Slovak Republic.
  13. Hi to forum members, Thanks for the useful replies. At least this bumbling (almost 70 years old) computer amateur had not actually missed something. I was beginning to feel that I was heading for a serious case of ' Dementia by lack of grey cells ' was becoming a reality with me. I will use my old version of Serif PLUS X8 for scanning in pictures for the moment. Later I will try out the alternatives as per forum members suggestions. Back to learning curve of trying to become competent with Affinity. Thanks again for all the help. John Edwin Skelton in exile in the Slovak Republic.
  14. Hi to Forum members, I realise that I am obviously missing something, but I have tried to find how to import an image from my scanner into affinity photo. Can anyone direct me to the place which I am being 'BLIND' to. Thanks in advance John Edwin Skelton in exile in Slovakia.
  15. OK, Thanks for the great, rapid, helpful forum response. Now the trick is to get my grey cells to start absorbing this technique. Regards John Edwin Skelton.
  16. Hi to Forum Members, Can anyone direct me to a tutorial which can show the steps in working along the edge of dogs or cats that have been photographed on a park grassland (including brown leaf litter). I want to cut the dog or cat out of the grass, then blur the grass and trees etc and paste a sharp copy of the dog or cat back onto this blurred background I am sure that this is reasonably straightforward when demonstrated. Watching the video tutorials on VIMEO in the past has been very very helpful to me. I am using Affinity Photo. Windows 10 and HP Laptop. Thanks in advance. John Edwin Skelton in exile in Banska Bystrica Slovak Republic.
  17. Hit to Forum users, I have solved some of the problematics in bending flat labels. I watched a video on YouTube which was designed for another famous programme which I won't mention here. This gave me clues as to how nodes can be manipulated in the Mesh Warp tool. I have not made a perfect job. But good enough for my clients current web site picture. There were some issues which I am still not sure about and saving the manipulated image in Affinity Photo as a GIF or JPEG caused Affinity to crash and not save the image. I persevered and eventually succeeded in saving a manipulated bent image. Perhaps Affinity could produce an educational video on this warping subject.. I am sure this would be well recieved. John Edwin Skelton in Exile in the Slovak Republic.
  18. Hello Affinity Forum, Can I bring up a suggestion for a 'CURVE' tool please. Affinity has got a tool which can straighten an image. Would it be possible to develop a ' Curve Tool ' that can be applied to a flat label image and progressively change the flatness to a curved shape that can be applied to a bottle or can shape on a previously photographed image. I have tried to use the supplied Warp Mesh tool. Not with much success because I can't understand the principle of the nodes. It has been possible for me to adjust the image label perspective so that it can be applied to a flat top of a jar successfully. A jar image is below which needs a wrap around logo image. Hope that I have explained myself properly. Affinity Photo is clearly an amazing programme so far. I have a lot of learning to do but even after only using it for one day I realise that my gray cells (at almost 70 years old) will be exercised for many weeks, but the results will be worth it. 19. Hi to moderator, Thanks for your prompt reply. I have watched the video. It was fairly helpful. BUT in my version of Affinity photo there seems to be a step missing from your instructions. I appear to have to make a DUPLICATE of the image or perhaps unlock the opened image. I chose to make a duplicate image and switch off the original background image. Then the tools started to work. I still have not found out how to to do the refinements like EXPAND the number of pixels ot SMOOTH the pixels around the image selection. I will persevere in my learning curve. Time will improve my skills (at least I hope so). The next challenge is to find how to curve flat images of a product label to be able to wrap them around an image of a curved object. Regards, John Skelton in Exile in the Slovak Repblic.
  20. Hi to Affinity Forum users. Just downloaded and installed Affinity Photo. I can see it has enormous potential already. RAW files can be developed from my Fuji HS 50 EXR camera now. BUT I am stumped. One tool which amateurs like me need and use a lot is the MAGIC WAND. Can any forum members direct me to a VIDEO TUTTORIAL or a series of steps to get the equivalent of the MAGIC WAND system in operation on the latest version of Affinity Photo. I realise that I am a complete amateur in photo processing but the MAGIC WAND was a life and time saver for me. Thanks in advance. John Skelton in Exile in the Slovak Republic.
