I just posted about the same issue I thought it was a problem with my Olympus RAW files. I hope this is fixed
-
After trying either of the Beta's, I noticed after developing a Olympus RAW file and going to a couple of Plug-ins I use (Topaz Studio & PortraitPro) the images are being turned 90 degrees in the plugins, This doesn't happen if it is a jpeg file, I think it's the .afphoto file format that is causing the problem.

I've researched the file types that were reported as crashing and changed by Windows to Photo. They were:
- raf (Fuji Raw File)
- pef (Pentax Raw File)
- orf (Olympus Raw File)
- mrw (Minolta Raw File)
- crw (Cannon Raw File)
- arw (Sony Digital Raw)
These crashed while loading AP Beta. I've changed the default for them.
I am loading Olympus Raw files (.orf) fine

The last two updates (April 2018 and especially October 2018) have been extremely problematic, to say the least… I personally don't suffer from these issues as I have Windows Pro on my machines and I'm delaying these updates for 6 to 8 months. I feel for those who have to endure forced updates on Windows Home...
I always wait 3-4 months before I update to the latest to make sure there are no problems and to give developers time to iron out any kinks in there apps that popup because of it, even Windows home can be delayed from updating until the user feels right about it. I have both Pro and Home machines and haven't update to the Oct update yet. To be fair the Oct update only affected a small percentage and Microsoft pulled it very soon after.

Any updates on the Windows 1.7.X Beta?

Try rasterizing the layer first, then apply your inpaint to selection.

Hi Gregory St. Laurent, Russ,
As explained elsewhere part of these delays are due to the work being done in the new Publisher app and integration with the rest of the suite. We need to ensure that all apps are running on the same improved code/trunk (1.7) and that there will be no issues when exchanging files between them or between platforms. Quite a few changes/improvements introduced firstly in Publisher (new 1.7 trunk) are being ported to Designer and Photo along with the new features of each app individually, so there was quite work being done on background during this time. Hopefully with the release of Publisher later, things will get more stable/balanced between all apps. We've just released the first Customer Betas of Affinity Photo v1.7 and Designer v1.7 (for Mac). There's plenty of improvements and a few new features to get excited about (I think). You can check what's new/changed here and here respectively.Regarding the plugins list (note this is not an official list but one I maintain for reference/help) I do intend to update it wherever possible while I text the plugins with the new v1.7.
Thanks for the clarification, any idea when the Windows 1.7 Beta will be released? I'm very excited at all the new improvements!

I think you must have missed it
I'm not sure of the exact dates but
AP 1.6.4 update was released in March.
AP 1.6.5 in August ?
AP 1.7 is due about now
That's three updates within nine months. All free!
I realize these updates came out, but most are bug fixes or very minimal changes with no fan fare. What I'm saying is communicate with the community better and give us a rudimentary roadmap (nothing set in stone) of major changes and tweaks that people will be exited about, this builds excitement. They've been very tight lipped about 1.7 for a very long time.

Well I use a plug-in from the company ProDigital Software which works perfectly with Affinity Photo and I've see the developer asking if their Plug-ins could be included on Serif's list of working plug-in. To this day it's still not on the list and that was many months ago. I too am irritated at the lack of info coming out, You'd think they would want to maintain interest in their products.

Sorry to hear this Gregory, my colleague @James Ritson uses the Olympus EM-1 Mk2 (or at least used to!) and may be able to provide some helpful tips.
When opening the RAW, are you using Serif Labs or the Apple Core RAW engine?
I'm on Windows so I am forced to use the Serif engine, I was told by a few that it is a known issue and that Serif would fix it, but its been some time since I've discussed this issue so I don't think it's a priority for them. My work around gets the job done so I'm not that concerned but it would be nice if it was fixed.

I am having issues opening up raw files from a Panasonic DC-G9, mainly that the files are coming out severely undersaturated and underexposed and with the tint under the white balance tool set to 50% to begin with. The file does open up perfectly normal within iPhoto, so I'm not really sure why there's such a big discrepancy between the two programs. Could it be a setting within my camera or Affinity photo that I'm not aware of?
I've attached one RW2 file and two screenshots. The colorful screenshot is Apple's 'preview' of the image in finder (also how it appears on the camera), and the undersaturated one is opened into Affinity. I'm having the same issue with every file. They are darker and undersaturated. I hope this is a simple fix that I'm too much of a newb to know about. Thank you.
I have the same problem with RAWs from my Olympus EM-1 Mk 2 and that is a supported camera. I've been complaining for over a year now and I've come to realize I'm just going to have to live with it. My work around is to setup a preset that I can apply upon opening in the develop persona that boosts exposure, brightness and a few other tweaks that gets me close and then I can adjust from there. I've tried using the apply tone curve in the develop assistant but it doesn't quite get me to where I need to be so the preset works better for me.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi I just did a High school Senior shoot with a young man with bad Acne, I'm able to clear up the blemishes relativity easily. But does anyone have a good technique for reducing the redness of the skin which I'm struggling with?
-
Ok, Thanks, but what I should have asked was the one in the Develop Assistant so it would apply automatically when a RAW file is opened.
-
Is there a way to customize the applied tone curve in the develop persona to something other than the default? If not, is this something that is possible in future updates? Because it would be very useful!
-
I find Faststone quite useful as a DAM, RAW files are easily launched into Affinity Photo. Tagging and organizing is fairly straight forward, most RAW formats are supported but the only drawback is naive AP files aren't recognized.

Useful to know.
Does this offer any benefit over just using the Topaz plug-ins as they come?
John
They are eventually going to eliminate the legacy plug-in's I believe over time and convert everything over to their studio format. All new plug-ins will be offered as Pro Adjustment in the Studio, the older legacy plug-ins will still work and be offered for a while longer. I used to use De-noise 5 and was going to update to 6 but opted to go with their new A.I. Clear adjustment offered in the Studio it does both De-noise and Clarity adjustments in one plug-in which isn't offered as a stand alone plug-in.

I use Topaz Studio with Affinity Photo (Windows edition) as a plugin with no issues.

I've just been testing this and get much better results when Apply Tone Curve is enabled. I've attached a screenshot, left is Adobe Camera RAW and right is Affinity Photo.
As both programs read a RAW file differently, there will always be some difference between how they first open but this can soon be corrected by playing with the sliders. But for me, having enable tone curve enabled gave me the closest match to other apps.
Yes applying tone curve does help a little but the exposure is still dark on Olympus files. I've tried RAW files from other camera brands that don't have this problem. It gets to be a pain when I have to adjust the exposure on every shot on a large shoot such as a wedding when I know I've nailed the exposure. I've set up a profile which does speed things up a bit, I was just curious if this was being looked into as It has been brought up before several times by other people besides me in the past.
-
It happens both, when opening a single or multiples, I have an E-M1 and a E-M1 Mark 2 the RAW files open about 1.0 to 1.5 stops underexposed with or without the automatic tone curve applied.
-
Is there any progress fixing the overly dark Olympus RAW (.ORF) files imported in the develop persona?
