A PDF document carries information to allow the display that you want to be produced on another computer.
There are various options.
When it comes to fonts, you may opt (I think that it is possibly on by default in Publisher - I have just tried to find where one may choose the setting, but I cannot find it at present) to embed a font that you are using so that the font is thereby available when the display is produced. As a side-issue of that, if you do choose font embedding you may choose to subset the font so that only the characters actually used are embedded. So, for example, if you write a poem and it does not have some of the letters and digits and punctuation characters in it, then they will not be embedded in the PDF. For example, a poem might not have, say, B, M, Q, X, Z, 1.. 9 and ( and ) in it, so if subsetting is used, that part of the font will not be embedded. Thus, for a large font that has characters for all of the languages of Europe and you are, say, using only English in the document, the information for all of the special characters for the languages of Europe will not be placed into the PDF. However, some fonts have flags in them that do not allow that to take place: also, even if it can be technically done then the End User Licence Agreement for the font may not permit it, either totally or only if an extra fee is paid, or maybe allowed for sending a copy to an external printshop for making hardcopy prints but not for placing on the web.
Your questions:
1. I do not know at present. In Serif PagePlus it is on an option panel when exporting the PDf document. I have tried to find something similar is Affinity Publisher but I have not found it today. I may have seen it the other day but I cannot be sure as I have also been using PagePlus.
2. Open the PDF document in Adobe Reader (which may now be called Acrobat Reader). then
File
Properties ...
Then on the panel choose the Fonts tab.
There is then a list of fonts. It states so if they are embedded.
A PDF that I produced using Affinity Publisher on 5 January 2019 is attached for you to test if you wish.
Please note that the font is listed as Embedded.
When I tried the same test with a PDF that I had produced using PagePlus it listed the font as Embedded Subset.

Hallo MEB  Sorry, i didnt see your answer earlier..

exactly..  Please Please Please...  this is such an important Shortcut. When you work in big documents, this smal shortcuts to add layermasks, or to subtract them ore mix..   are one of those shortcuts, you desperatly need to work fast..
 
In Architectural Visualisation you have to deal with dozens of layers that are mixed, grouped combined..   and often you have to aply masks ore effects to many of them at once.  having this shortcut would improove usability of Affinity for my company very very much. And i am sure for everyone else too.
Please implement this in the 1.7..     it should be done ease wouldnt it ?

Nice name .   Krita Colorise mask is interesting . Shall try it out and report. Need to see how it works with complex/large drawings..and if it has become stable enough for windows .
But the issues is it needs another program to handle a small task . I am  looking for a faster and easier way...

I also am used to work with low res or unretouched versions of photos in my documents, and upon finishing the project after several weeks of changing things, a simple task of replacing all the images with what is the approved version, by opening a seperate Finder window (or explorer for win). And from there flick those pics in. It’s literally a task of seconds even for a multi-page brochure.
If I had to do this with a command (replace) and getting a picker window, and then for each one had to navigate to the right folder, I would go nuts! 
Of course it is absolutely mandatory to keep all the positioning parameters, like: scale, offset, rotation, auto fitting, visible layers, crop box/media box, and so on. (the way, indesign does it)

Wasn´t it planed to give some way of moving the grid , using the gridmanager ?  This could help..   not sure if its allready implemented.

Yes, count me also as requester for that feature : span title or any paragraph from 2 to all columns of the text frame.

Columns in text boxes is good, but option to Span columns, so that a title can span the 2 columns of text it's above, without having to make a separate text box for the title please.

Yes that will help in some instances but generally I'd need it to flow with the text. In a 100 page annual report with lots of tables this would currently be a dealbreaker, I'd have to use InDesign instead (much to my annoyance!).

I just dived into the settings of the Grid- and Axis- Manager..   so i found out there are great ways now to create rows and Colums also with gutters.. 

but it allways seems to start out from the left upper corner of the Page..  I also moved the Ruler Origin..   but this didnt have any influence on the Grid and Axis..

so the questin of course is, if i can move also the origin of my grid and axis ?   for example to the center of the page, so i get even distribution on both pages....

By the way...  using fixed length doesnt allways do the job very well..    what we often want rather...   take that length....  i point you to...  and devide it by 5... and than use folowing gutters... 
Thats rather how most of us think wen we design a page dont we ?  
 
so my suggestion would be..
first make the origin point for the Grid and Snappings movable.. secound, let us point to a fixed length... and tell the program to devide it by...    x    plus gutters. if needed... third.. maybe a Grid and Axis " Object", like a Square we can position like a square and then devite it  with Objectinternal Axises and devisions and gutters... this way we also could use what ever axis on each page seperated if wanted or needed.. 

That is step one, then grab the dot just outside the frame at the bottom right and resize the frame to the size you want and the text will increase/decrease with the frame.

But thats one of those tiny smal commands you realy miss if they are not available...

Hey guys,
I agree, this function is very much needed.
Especially for sharing/working different machines that aren't connected via a server or else.
It's a very simple and convenient way to gather all the use materials in one tidy folder with
according sub folders like Images or Fonts.
And if you want – and you're like me – you can still add your own Drafts/Versions, Inspiration/Mood,
Exports or else folders and move the remaining, unlinked but related files and tying up the whole
project in one clean place.
Maybe there'll be something like a separate Package or Bundle Persona with different options,
or maybe it get's integrated in a Export Persona like the one we got in Designer? 
Anyway – count me in, I'd very much like to see this option in the (near) future!

I am surprised this is not there. Making packages is our best back up for filing projects in a right way, it speeds up the process and prevents errors and time searching for missing files. It is also a great way of cleaning up a messy image folder. This is not an option for the future, it is an absoluut MUST in a professional high speed design and DTP workflow. It is out of date to search for a missing links, copy files to a folder before or during lay-outing or searching it all together before a project is stored on a server.  Not only Indesign does it but also in 3D it a secure way collect linked textures . Each application that works with linked files has this option, if not, it should and I think it even should be an automated function to prevent human errors.

On use of masters:-
I note  that  in beta 133, Serif have introduced showing which master/s is/are applied to a page when you hover the mouse over a page in the Pages tab.  It even shows in which order they were applied too.  It shows that Serif are listening to what many have felt would be a great help. Well done, Serif!!

nice idea..
but i tried it with the other idea and it seems to be a real fast workflow.
open one of the pfd-s and  delete the pfd..  now your docuament has allready the right size used in the plotted pdf depending on the dpi settings you have used..
 
now switch in your snap settings to only snap to document..  
 
drag and drop your first pdf on the document and use the move tool to snap to the document center  (by the way i use xnviewmp with ghostscript to see immages and pdfs ore ai´s like with bridge)
 
now apply th layer effects...  color    and after this thin line using the same color of your color-layer effect..
 
strg + j   duplicate the layer in place as often as needed...
 
use for the embedded docs the replace option to load all of your other layers.   
 
if i had a wish..   i would like to use my external image browser and drag and drop it on top of my layers which would give me the option to replace the layer..  that would even be faster as the replace button.

of course you are right..  in most cases theres a way to fullfill your task,   and of course just to rasterise my embedded objects, make selections and so on will bring you to a layout and graphic, that can reproduce all the graphically aimed visual aspects of your work.. 
But, and thats a very big But,  Affinity wants to compete to Photoshop.  Just let us forget for a moment that for this smal amout of money its a great software, and thats still develloping.
I f they realy want to make ground , they have to give comparable solutions or better solutions. 
And i am sure i can speak for the whole architectural World and its workflows. Allready in Germany you have about 130 000 Architects. Theres nearly no architectural Company involved in Competitions, that doesnt use Photoshop at the moment, and all of them hate the new Rent-policy of Adobe..  ore have illegal copies of it.
Affinity could fill this gap easiliy, if only they woul embed only a hand full of workflow improvements.
 
to understand this you have to know that architects in competition have to deal with dozends of changes coming from their drawings that come of course straigt of architectural CAD Programms.  This said, you have to know, that the real workflow boost together with photoshop come from embedded and linked pdf or eps files that you print from your cad file into a folder, and than use to build up your Photoshop document to improve it. and each time in the competition process, your building or florplan, your landscape or your siteplan changes, and it does again and again and again, the only  thing you have to do in photoshop, is to refresh your linked and embedded printings from the cad file.
of course than have to do other changes, but the overall structure of your Plan now embedded in Photoshp doesent have to be rebuild again and again and again..  this is the reason i am here.. 
jus to make affinity listen to us architects too.
 
so what are the most missing features at the moment in workflow of architectural companys (for photograper for example affinity allready is great)
1. linked embedded objects
2 in affinity linked and embedded pdf or eps files stay vektor graphics..  for architects this is bad, becaus we never would change lines and shapes inside of affinity. its by faaaaar easier to do this in the specialised CAD Programms like revit.   Sooo..............  give us the opportunity like in Photoshp to also embed our "linked" pdf or eps or even dwg files also as rasterised  embedded objects.. because we wont change the lines inside of affinity photo and secound, because affinity cant as photoshop  use the wand ore color select mode, to get selectoins from the colors...(of embedded vektor objects)   the only way in affinity photo to do this is to rasterise the embedded CAD plan and than you loose the embedded replace option..   which destroys the whole workflow.
3. as told before, you cant select colors from embedded pdf or eps (later maybe also embedded dwg) files..   so make colorselections from vektor graphics work as with pixelselections.
4. Architectural plans and even more architectural renderings exist out of dozens and hundrets of layers or masks...   in photohsop you can strg+left mouse button click an icon in the layermanager,  and select pixels from the layer as in affinity. but furthermore you can Strg+shift+lmb click it to select layermasks additiv..     this is cruicial in workflows when it comes to speed in big documents... i want it too in affinity photo, and hope this easy to implement feature that would improve workflow with masks a lot !!!  will come to the next major build.. 
5. as in the beginning of this thrad, give us also a way to use repettitive patterns as a layer effect. while this is not nearly as important as the stuff above..
 
Affinity will never get big ground in the architectural world without at last the points 1 to 4, just because the advantage of a minor price for the programm will get eaten easily by your moneyloost, because of much slower workflows compared to photoshop..
 
Please affinity, dont get me wrong.. i am here, because affinity photo allready is a great programm.  But especially in my world of architectural use of such programms, it still lacks of some important features to be compettitive to Photoshop.    And i am here, because i hope you listen to this very big part of possible futur customers of your Programm..

Hi everyone,
I was asked if in Affinity i can get a comparable effect like the Pattern overlay in the Photoshop Layereffects. 
We use Embedded PDF files in Architectural Plans, and often a good way of improoving the Look is just to make a pattrn overlay in the Layereffects of Photohop, when replace the embedded pfd file.. 
 
is there any idea to do something comparable in Affinity Photo ?

so such a grid    and also guides snapping to text columns...
 

i think in the actual version 133 it works
