A couple of thoughts---
When did Quark and ID add this functionality to their applications?  Was it available in the first release? MEB has said that this is on the roadmap; it's just not in the first release of the application. It's not possible to deliver a first release product that has all the bells and whistles of competitive products that have been developed for years.   Just about everyone on this board has a feature or function they perceive as critical and want it in the product now.  That's just not possible with the limited resources that Affinity has. Let's give the team time to finish off what's in the pipeline for this first release and then they can start looking at the roadmap for future enhancements. Oh, and they have two other excellent products that are going to be updated so that they are all on the same base engine as Publisher.

By the way !
i just tried it...  it works..    bind all footage into your document...  bring it to another pc..   and say   "make linked"   now publisher asks you for the folder of the linked footage for your document...   and          tadaaaaa.....     saves it to those location..
 
only wird thing is..    filesice doesent change after saving the document that now is linked...   at my case it stayed at about 970 MB..  and didnt change filesice even when the footage was saved to another folder... 
any ideas about this ?  is that a bug ?
 
 

The Big advantage of Packaging is, that you
can find all used Content, wherever it is on your Network, and the Packagingprocess sorts out all unessesair Content that you have put to your Contentfolder but didn´t use in your final layout..  When you Package a Dokument and send it to a partner ore collegue using also afinnity publisher,  either way, you need to send many data to him..  from filesize there wouldn´t be a big differenze if you put the used content to a folder or if you embed the content to your afpublisher Document.
So i would suggest to embedd all the used contend to your document and send it this way..  But i would suggest a further Feature here !!!
 
using the embedded objects in the Ressource Manager..  give us the option to Export the embedded Content to a Folder we point to !
 
This of course wouldnt work when exporting to idml format which also is essential for many companys that work together with external partners..  My Architecural Company does this all the time ..  sharing indesign documents or idml formats with for example the greenplaners..    So i assure you we need this workflow..
I dont know how afpubisher would handle the export of idml files and the packaging of content when it will support idml..  i hope they find a good solution for this.. 

i get a easier information about guides...

Right now i only can get precise informations about the position of guides when i use the guides manager..
But why not also using the Transform Palette ?  when i hover over a guide, it could give me the position of a guide. Just as it does in indesign, when i cklick an guide..
Only thing i am not sure about  is how i would do this, when a guide comes from a masterpage, and so is dotted.. in this case, it couldnt be selected in the page..
Never the less, get better information about guides would be appreciated..

the idea of course is you can toggle throug other tools..    But....   but you dont want this... you allway have to look to the left side to see if you selected the right tool..

So please also make export of idml possible..

I propose that the menu option be called "Perform Evil Export..."
That way all of the problems that come up in the exported file should be excused since the export was evil to begin with and thus cannot be trusted.

I've spoken with development and they said we will be able to open InDesign files but I just can't say when exactly. Obviously sooner than later would be better. If I get any more information I'll update this thread.

For long time InDesign (and Quark) user this program is dead in the water if it cannot open InDesign files. Its a shame as I am making the switch from Adobe to Affinity in the Photo and Designer programs and this would have completed my switchover. Graphic designers will have many long and complex InDesign files that have to be periodically updated, it is folly to think we will abandon these complex files and start from scratch with Affinity Publisher. Affinity needs to think again.

When I first open Publisher & create a 20 page document I get a grid view in the pages panel and "small"  is ticked in the Page options. The visible label on all the pages from 10 to 19 is the same. If I change the option to Medium or Large and then back to Small I get a linear view which is much more usable.

If I change the Pages panel width I can get this.

I think the Pages Panel needs a bit of work on it. But this a minor niggle on what's looking like great software.

Well i installed just the newest Beta of Affinity Photo .1.7  0231,   and looked at the Changes..   Affinity even didnt mention it there i think.. 
 
But very very helpful and important for me was a very tiny shortcut missing...     additiv in the Layermanager select pixelselections..    So Serif listens to us.. 
Shortcut is in German:
STRG+Shift+ Leftmousebutton click..      /    or  :     cmd+shift+ LMB  klick..  
this tiny shortcut will reduce selectiontimes on big documents with many masks where you all the time have to select many layers, (in Visualisation compositings of Architectural visualisations for example) ,  enormously.. 
So many many thanks..

But !  i cant find a way to deselect from a Selection..  this is still missing,  maybe this could be implemented too ?

thanks, i found this too, and in this moment i am looking at it...      Well the way to aktivate the pannel for Hyperlinks,   is to just press strg in german or  cmd in english and meanwhile, doubleclicking affinity Photo to start it...  in that case another windows pops up before the programm starts and asks you to reset everything..   after doing so, also the studio option for the hyperlink pannel works..

He..  you tiny ..  renderfreak...   make big windows...  make smal windows...   make them spare above three rows..  no.. go back to two...   aaah....  and the tree in the backround..  could you just rotate the leaves   in the lower part about   12 degree to south...   why didnt you see this ...   we just changed the stone..  we have made the whole building round...  come on..  you still have the night to chane it...

I really hope that Data Merge gets added sooner rather than later! I've got a job coming up which requires personalized place cards and menus for 500 plus people. I can either use Publisher and type out each one, one at a time, by hand, or I can continue to use the Data Merge function in good old PagePlus. Guess which way I'm likely to go!

Both features are planned for Publisher (although I don't know the scope of the data merge/import function) however there's no eta for any specific feature sorry.
 

You're welcome. I've filled a request to implement the same keyboard shortcut as in Photoshop ⌘ (cmd) + ⌥ (option/alt) if possible.
