I know there are lots of topics created by people requesting specific functionality from adobe PS. One thing that I particularly like and I do mis in nearly all other imaging editing software (including Lightroom) I've tried is smart sharpening. The sharpening algorithm leads to better results and you'll get blending options to prevent clipping due to sharpening. Of course you can apply this filter as a smart-filter so you'll keep a nondestructive work-flow.
I would really like to see this feature in both the iPad and MacOS versions

Yesterday I tried to make some ajustments using affinity but unfortunately I wasn't able to get it right. There are two missing features. There isn't something like an eyedropper for selecting the color. Sometimes PS considers something as yellow when it looks green for instance. But much more importantly, there isn't any way to change the range of the color it's trying to affect. This is crucial for a lot of HSL ajustments. A lot of apps do offer the ability to adjust the HSL range. Now you can adjust only parts of an autumn leave for instance, the red channel doesn't cover everything and the yellow channel covers other things too so it's just not possible.
Maybe you can work around this issue by using something like color range, but that limits your options to only one color and it's more work and less flexible.
Please refer to the attached screenshot to see what I mean.

InnerPeace got a reaction from furtonb in Non-destructive RAW development (all RAW adjustments in separate sidecar file)
I'm also looking forward to this.
For clarity sake this feature request involves two things:
the ability to save the RAW edits. (maybe as a separate file, or embedded in the DNG one).  The ability to adjust the RAW edits after you developed them The first one might be the most important one. The second one needs the first one to function in the way Photoshop has implemented this using smart objects. This works by basically referencing the original raw file + edits to they can be adjusted later on.
Maybe in the future it would be nice to align the develop 'studio' to have the same or more features than Adobe Camera Raw so you could load up those sidecar files to have (roughly) the same edits. Honestly I think Photoshop's raw converter is much better (I'm sorry to admit) so I see no reason not to catch up and implement the same features.
OP seems to refer to just the first feature.

    Hi all,
Huge gap in Affinity Photo functionality is lack of non-destructive RAW development.
The best solution is to create sidecar file containing all adjustments made with RAW.
Now it's not possible to do some adjustments with RAW file, close Affinity and come back to work with the same RAW later starting from previous point.
In my workflow and presumably for many other photographers working with RAW covers more than 50% of total workflow.
So now I can use Affinity only in the final stages of my workflow.
I found some other requests for that functionality but without answer.
Question to development team: when do you plan to implement non-destructive RAW development in Affinity?
    I hope not in 2.0 version :-)

I used AP on the iPad with the Apple Keyboard attached, and there are quite some shortcuts working.
E and B are for eraser and brush, CMD+C copies a marqueed selection and CMD+V pastes it as a new layer. The same works for the currently selected layer.
Just play around, You might be surprised what already works via keyboard. Be aware that the same keys have different functions depending on the persona.

There are multiple requests sometimes people start a new topic for the same feature that has been asked previously. I would love for the iPad version to have a common feature requests topic as well. This makes it much easier to keep track of feature requests that are common and have been put already.

Thought I'd give you a glimpse of some of the features that will be coming in 1.7.

Please note - this thread is only for discussing the features detailed here.  Postings related to other feature requests should be posted on their own thread (else they will get deleted from this thread).

We have spent considerable time overhauling the internals of some of our main tools.  It's been a labour of love, but it's going to open up greater possibilities for our core tool set.

    The core tools are:
    - Move tool
    - Pen tool
    - Node tool
    - Shape creation tools
    - Text tools
    - Fill and Transparency tools
    - Place Image tool
    - Vector Crop tool

So, what improvements can be expected?

    - Advanced grid editing on spread (move the grid origin and edit it's axis with a handy new widget, with full snapping of course)
    - Guides can be created and moved in all the core tools, plus a toggle to turn guide editing off
    - Move the artboard ruler origin (with editing toggle)
    - Create objects and shapes into an arbitrary grid
    - Rotate and flip objects in grid planes (great for people working in isometric), plus an option to rotate shapes in plane using the Move tool
    - The Move tool will now allow you to cycle though selection boxes, including regular boxes and grid plane aligned boxes
    - Snapping performance improvements

I'm using Photo for iPad a couple of months now. And the last few weeks also for bigger projects. I only used the desktop version for color correction.

With all the masking and matte painting I think it is really annoying I can't reach some functions with my left hand (thumb). If I mask I switch a lot between foreground and background colors. On a keyboard I use X (and D te reset them to black and white). I miss this completely in Photo for iPad. I always have to select a color by using the color selecter. That's nog so good for a fast workflow. So I prefer the button on the left at the ui. Also transferring the undo button to the left would me sooooooo great.

And maybe, you can set this as an option for the left hand users...

    Hi Jacknumpty,
    Welcome to the forums.

We have our own Macros feature that allows you to record steps and then play them back. But currently Photoshop actions aren't supported due to the apps not being feature matched. This may be something thats improved in future updates/versions.

In this latest beta, modifier keys have been added to certain tools. While it's a good try, it's not ideal. First, let's take the brush tool as an example. You can now use the pick color button while dragging the pencil to select a color. The problem is, when doing things like frequency separation where you need to constantly change color and size of brush, it gets pretty cumbersome switching through the menus each time. What we need are permanent command keys that work with any tool as they would on the desktop. Let's stay with the brush tool. If there was a space key, we could quickly switch to pan/hand mode while working. If we had an option key, we could easily drag to get the color picker as it works on the desktop. This would simplify the menus and allow those keys to be used with multiple tools, as they do on the desktop when using a wacom or similar. I'd suggest space, option, command, control, and shift keys. And see below for my suggestion for placement, although it would be cool to swap placement for lefties. I love that you guys are so responsive.

Hello again everyone. I was thinking that would be lovely to add a features similar to ACR and Photoshop. Instead of developing pictures and lose all the adjustment would be nice to develop as a smart object or whatever we can call it. In that case I can always go back to my develop persona and bringing back my initial adjustments.

I think this will be a huge improvement in terms of workflow.

    Does anyone agree?

This is actually already a thing (mostly). It still allows you to pan and zoom with your fingers, but your fingers don't activate the tool. IMO this is a make or break feature, any graphics app that doesn't have this isn't worth using and I don't know how some people get by not using it.

Its in the settings, I'll see if I can find it and screen shot it for you.

EDIT: In the settings go to the "Tools" tab and turn on "Touch for gestures only"

InnerPeace reacted to MEB in Google Nik Collection is now free for everyone.
    Hi killwilly,
If you have Photoshop installed in your system i would install the Nik plug-ins there and point Affinity Photo to Photoshop's plug-in folder ( /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC 2015/Plug-ins - you may have to adapt this path depending on the version of Photoshop you have installed). This way you can use the plug-ins with both apps.

If you don't have Photoshop installed i would create a new folder during the installation named Nik Collection Plug-ins (to keep it near the Nik Collection folder created automatically by the installer for the support files in Finder). If you don't create a specific folder the Nik Collection installer will place the plug-in files in a folder called Google (inside the Applications folder) by default. If you intend o install more plugins later you may want to create an Affinity Photo Plug-ins folder instead and install all plug-ins to inside that folder.

Telegram (on iPhone at least) has a pretty nice curves adjustment feature in their photo sharing dialog

you do not add points onto the curve but give the curve a gentle push to either side
this gives more subtle results and feels just right on a touch surface

maybe this is something that could be added to the iPad as well to even better use the touch input method

    cheers

    Hi,

The lack of thumbnails in some categories is not because they are complicated - its just that we don't ship any presets for those adjustments. The main "adjustments" list allows adding of all adjustments in their default state. The other lists allow adding of adjustment presets - which you can create from each adjustment tool.

That said, I agree to an extent..

I have created my own adjustment presets for the adjustments which I use frequently - and removed the default ones. Now I get useful thumbnails everywhere - including the main list (which uses the first preset if available).

Soon, we will add the ability to switch to a simple list of adjustment names instead of thumbnails - as well as the ability to sort the list by most-frequently-used, as opposed to alphabetically - which at times I do find frustrating.

    Hope this helps,

    A

The adjustments gallery is a nice gimmick and some of the shortcuts are even quite handy. But for some tools there are no previews because of their complex nature and for others the previews carry no useful information at all. No serious photographer takes on photo editing by tapping together random modifications by thumbnails. The gallery approach also sacrifices swiftness by focusing on misguiding optical stimuli. It took me ages to find the tool for selective colour correction (“HSL adjust”, which lacks orange and purple, by the way) from that messy gallery because the thumbnail did not nearly look like something I would like to do with the image in question. But maybe it's just me. Any thougths on that?
