    Good day,
I will like to add this suggestion to the team of affinity developers. Can you guys give users access to an api or sdk so we can create plugins just for affinity. If this is made available to users, affinity will get more market ground at pull more creators, companies, freelance developers and school to the affinity products.
I teach in a American University of Nigeria, and am pulling my students from adobe to affinity.
Many have been asking for plugins and Ux related stuffs. I have ideas of plugins that will help UX designers to move to AD.
    Please answer this request.
Thanks and have a wonderful day.

For over a 1 year plus, I have asked for an sdk or api that will allow developers build plugins or extensions for Affinity. Up till now no reply, what a shame.

Now that the unsplash issue has popped up due to high request, you will need developers to help improve some logic to extend the suite with an alternative and feature support to expand Affinity ecosystem that I believe is growing.

Please any Affinity team member should take this up and lets see how developer can help as you focus on the core performance and features and developer can work on other relevant and non-relevant plugins or features.

True. i use davinci resolve , it has everything i need for post production. Audio editing still need some work , i do a round trip to studio one and back. but am cool with the software.
Affinity Video editor will be nice still but i dont feel affinity have any plans for it and alot of work when it comes to video processing.
For now the vector and pixel space Affinity has covered it well but still need more works.
I hope to see prototyping in designer and more

Why do people think that Scratch is an NLE? Just because it has a timeline? It's not designed for editing... and ASSIMILATE doesn't advertise it as such, either. It's a great dailies tool, and a phenomenal color grading suite with some pretty powerful 3D compositing tools built in.

And Nuke Studio is $10K. For tight budgets, the best bets are HitFilm and Resolve, depending on whether you're more interested in color or more interested in VFX.

Definitely yes. All of the companies I've worked at replied heavily on scripts for photoshop and wouldn't be able to do that in Affinity Photo.

Affinity Team have to learn from bigger players like Adobe. It is how Adobe resolve issue [Official script guide fro 2019 year]
Adobe make tree language to use: JavaScript, VBA and AppleScript. I wrote in my post here about REST API. My aproach is more universal and not limited to OS, programming language and platform. Affinity Team can use this aproach to share multisystem graphics to share and access programs fx. in LAN. It is only example. For people who don't know here is video with basic explanation what is REST API. I use Awasu news reader and it is inbuild REST API. Using call via link I can get fx. example Awasu to front of anothers applications, update things and get data.
For some automatication using only calls from file user can control Affinity applications in matter:
url one url two ... url n fx.
localhost:8000/ad/open?file="logo.afdesigner" localhost:8000/ad/draw/rectangle?height=200&width=300&posX=23&posy=100 localhost:8000/ad/export/slices/all On Windows add this tree lines with word 'start' before them in notepad to new file, save as macro_affinitydesigner.cmd and in style:
start localhost:8000/ad/open?file="logo.afdesigner" start localhost:8000/ad/draw/rectangle?height=200&width=300&posX=23&posy=100 start localhost:8000/ad/export/slices/all you have working macro. In Affinity you can add this in fx. special "Macro" menu and Affinity application will be run from menu in the same way that you will click on them on desktop. In Photoshop is calling Actions as you can see on this example video. One the way for that is write in seperate windows API call which you can simply copy and paste. Using API you can add extra parameters like dimensions from variables. It is when it start difference.
    Where is difference?
Macro system is based on specific commands / language and it is a Photoshop way. API REST is oriented on client - server. Client is what you use to open link and adjust parameters on them. Server is application with reaction on this fx. browse this forum and check how differences in links switch make post, show another subforum etc. It is the same, but in place showing part of Affinity forum you use menu / command inside Affinity application.

I want to chip in regarding this topic.

I have written numerous stuff including an article of using Scribus as a semi Indesign Server replacement and that using Scribus CLI scripts (https://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Command_line_scripts). It's unbelievable how many mails I get from professors, companies, students... that are looking for these kind of solutions.  Like how people want to have Adobe alternatives, they also want to have automation alternatives.... Scribus does work in this regards but its not as good and user friendly as the affinity Products.

Another example I want to give is how I worked for a big Belgian ecommerce site that painstakingly by hand needed to modify product pictures. I automated the whole thing using Adobe Scripting and saved the company thousands of euros. And while Affinity Designer for the graphical tasks is certainly a replacement that they could use, if they made the switch they would again manually by hand modifying the product pictures... Really don't underestimate how important this feature can be for some companies.

True talk. Am a developer and my strength is in nodejs(javascript/typescript),c++ and c#, I have no preference for scripting. If Serif team choose any other language i will just have to learn it to build my automation or plugin. I hope this happens soon and wish the team all the best on this wonderful product.

Sure, you can have an opinion, and we respect it. But if most people says Python it's best, you can't fight that. For this same issues is why polls and voting systems exist.

I come from bracket and static datatype languages, and when I discovered Python, that opened a world of possibilities for me. For example, I ditched Batch in favor of Python to develop tools to solve my daily life tasks.

Tabs are basic and common in normal text writing anyways, for example, to start a new paragraph.

You can love Lua all you want, but bashing Python over that, it's silly. "Lua is better than Python because I love it". No, it doesn't work that way.

Blender (3D modelling and animation software) uses Python.
Adobe Flash (now Adobe Animate) uses JSFL, a flash port of JSAPI, a Javascript API .
Web browsers use Javascript for their extensions development.

    Last words:

It makes sense to have Python as the language to automate Affinity Programs tasks. If not Python, then Javascript. These 2 languages are common among graphic designers that also become frontend developers, because of their simple syntax.

I dream about Python replacing Javascript for the web. I want to know your opinions on this guys!

That would be neat to have an upgrade to the Slice Tool. Right now, it only exports image files but not yet html text or export for web. I'm down with this.

it would be nice if we would have some kind of a "presentation mode" in Publisher and Designer were pages could be scrolled like slides with time interval included.

ehigiepaul reacted to Bri-Toon in AD: Table Tool
I don't want to overwork you guys, because I appreciate everything you're doing. I just want to share an idea I thought of for Affinity Designer; a table tool. Designer is for vector artwork and layout, right? Well whenever I worked with tables, I actually always used Microsoft Word, not Excel. The functionality that the tool could have is to align content and text more efficiently. You would be able to choose an alignment for rows, columns, and cells. You could merge cells, split them, distribute rows or columns evenly, and of course, hide the borders. Back when I used Yahoo, I came up with a make belief competitor called Tada. I used a table to make its directory (at least 7 years ago now).

So what do you think? Would a Table Tool make a good addition to Designer? I think it would come great for layout and UI designs.
