Would be very interesting to hear from professionals using the touch bar for proper work. I watched the demo utterly bewildered as to how this was anything other than a distraction to a workflow.

Also know a few of programmers who are furious that the physical Esc key has gone from their 'pro' machine!

I was trying to record the process of creation in AF and AD for this new character to share on social media.

I manually scrubbed through the history whilst recording a section of the screen with Quicktime. Then created the gif with GifBrewery.

Got me thinking - making recordings form history and sharing could be a very cool bonus feature.  :)

    Hello,

I am requesting these two features

1 - The ability to scale shapes that are using corner tool without losing their actual shape.
see this post for more details.

2- Having brushes fill the whole shape's stroke without a gap at the beginning.
see this post for more details

    and thank you :)

I've made a few wobbly 1st steps recording QT .movs, and editing them. This gives me a bit of a boost.

For people who want to give it a go here are a few more tips.
Turn on 'save history with file' before you start. Think about the background you want, you might not be able to change this later. Up the amount of history that is saved in preferences, otherwise the history at the start will be removed when you go over the limit. Use multiple versions of a file for different treatments. Sketch, blocking out, shading etc. When recording your screen/screen section stretch out the history tab to make it very wide, you'll get finer control over the playback. If performance is an issue minimise all other tabs/windows, so it's just the history - layers especially - they may try to update as you scrub. Scrub slowly when recording and then speed up the footage in a video editing tool. People like to see the creation process on social media etc, just look at the number of speed modelling vids on youtube. This could be a cool tool for users (not needing screen recording software and the performance overhead) and a nice way for Affinity D&P to be spread more widely.

Let's be honest though, it's a nice-to-have feature for a few of us, so I won't hold my breath!!!  :D

\working for me nicely now and getting faster. Could do with a brush resize keystroke or mouse function though.

HI guys, the is my first work made with AD, normally I use AI (Mac) and CorelDraw (depends on the job).
vectors only, AD is a nice App!

PNG-24 (with transparency) - currently there is no option to output without transparency.

Some of my destinations (apple app store) can't take PNG-24 with an alpha channel. I currently have to use a photoshop batch to remove the (100% white) alpha channel.

A checkbox to include alpha might be useful.

btw - I can use j-peg instead in this instance but I prefer to use png - having greater control over what comes out of AD is always going to be a win.

Wanted to put a request in for custom export resolutions - I've heard it's coming in a later release but thought I'd add my use case.

I use Affinity Designer for making games using our proprietary games engine. For 2d games I often need to export at multiple resolutions e.g., exporting graphics at half size and doubling them at runtime to save runtime memory - think blurred backgrounds etc.

I'm trying to move over to Affinity design from illustrator, the grass feels a little green over here :)
In AI i could use a script to export at any scale by specifying the ppi, and give it a location etc.

The issue I currently have with AD is that it's being too clever and by doing so is very restrictive.
It seems to protect against pixelation of raster graphics by not allowing you to scale up above your base - want 2x then ensure your document setup is set to retina. it only allows 1x 2x and 3x - I often need to scale down or something that isn't 1-3x. It adds a fixed naming convention it doesn't offer separate directories for exporting For Affinity Designer to cater for all pipelines and workflows we need a more relaxed approach. For now I'll have to split my documents up and set the ppi on each accordingly.

    Keep up the great work.

We're still figuring out how best to use it. My feeling is that having it duplicate things already available as keyboard shortcuts may be helpful for casual users who don't yet know what the shortcuts are, but is less useful for professionals. Having it duplicate mouse UI may be useful for professionals if using the touch bar lets them keep their hands on the keyboard instead of reaching for the mouse. If you are using the touch pad instead of a mouse then the benefit is a bit less.

So for example at the moment for text we just have bold and italic buttons, which is pointless (it's really just a place-holder). Better would be sliders for things like pointsize, leading, kerning and tracking. I think. We do have shortcuts for those, eg Cmd+Shift+> to make text bigger by one step, but using a touch bar slider might be smoother and more direct.

Like putting a flipping screen and the iPadPro pressure layer to use Apple Pencil for example?
In that case you if will read about an Italian guy throwing notes from his balcony towards the Apple Store this is me.

Malcolm got a reaction from MattP in default antialiasing and coverage map
Hi Matt, Sorry I missed your reply on this been off on another thread doing 3D and promo movies for a while - Yes someway of trying different presets on an Object / Doc / App level would be amazing.

Specifically I'm struggle with small circular graphics sub 100px @72 dpi - I can't get any of it past quality control :(
I'm having to use another app to export these items which is bonkers - as no doubt you'd appreciate.

The trouble with manually tweaking the coverage map curve on items this small and perfectly round is that it's almost impossible to get it just right, the fine control just isn't there, and I'm just trying to eyeball it rather than applying any accurate/targeted maths. So some presets produced by you fine fellows would be amazing.

I'd invite your or one of your team to test with small circles/torus's as I've mentioned and if you can stomach it compare results with Photoshop and Illustrator for this specific case. I'm certain AD does a better job in other areas.

    Cheers, Mal

    Hi Malcolm,

Hmmm... well, choosing anti-aliasing ramps is always one of those 'this is better', 'no, this is better' things and I'm sure there are scenarios where you can provoke any engine to produce better/worse results... but that's not to say that we got it right. I think that perhaps the best solution here would be if I could make our renderer default to a customisable ramp until such time as it was overridden by the object settings you choose. That way, the user can change the default ramp at any point and the whole document would redraw with that new ramp. It could also be saved as the document default for future documents.

    Would that be okay? :)
    Matt

I've attached the crash log and it reliably crashes every time so I could supply the file if required?
