  1. @Old Bruce Ah..., yes some vital info missing in my question. Apologies. I use Affinity Photo. The object isn't a vector object (it should be though). In the Affinity Photo file i have it's a pixel layer. HSL: just seen a video on that. Awesome 👍🏼 BUT... I'm finding it impossible to get pure red. What should I do here? I can get loads of other colours - but not pure red (and I would assume others) Recolour layer: I searched around and can't find that one. I found some where you make a selection and then mask and then choose recolour - I guess that's what you mean? HSL would be preferred in that case EDIT: I just discovered recolour near HSL in adjustment layer. EDIT EDIT: one version I need is white. So I make the graphic white and add a black background rectangle - the recolouring or HSL ALSO applies to the layers below. How do I fix? Would still like some feedback if I've done anything wrong above. Thanks.
  2. I have an object - simple graphic - it's just a shape. What's the best way of changing its colour? Paint bucket is hit and miss. It seems to overfill and add bits that weren't there before. Just wondering if there was a better way? Thanks (Using older version of Affinity.)
  3. Thanks for the reply 'non destructive' - it definitely needs to be destructive! I'm blurring text that shouldn't be able to be unscrambled. LOL Better to cut and delete!
  4. I have an image. I want to make a selection and blur. I wanted to know if there was a better way doing than what I'm currently doing. - I make a selection using the Rectangular Mask tool. - Then choose filter -> blur -> Gaussian blur. (Increase Radius and hit apply.) - To repeat again for other parts, I select and hit Ctrl Alt F. I searched loads on Google and Youtube. The only instructions I come across are where they show how to select and image and then blur the background. Is there a better way to what I'm going right now? Thanks.
  5. @thomaso please remove all my personal pics before I report you to the mods. LOL. Not quite the 95% I meant 🤦‍‍
  6. Thanks guys 👍🏼 The first link is brilliant I can do hair colour replacement in about 5 min I think - just a rough 95% job is OK for me I've been through one of her other tutorials so am a little familiar with masking
  7. I want to change black hair to white or blonde in a picture. I've done a search on youtube. I see videos that are 20 min long! I don't fancy sitting through such a long video. It's only for an experiment I need. (I've used hair colour changing apps on the mobile - they're not very good!) Is there a a super quick way of doing or is it a lengthy task? Thanks.
  8. AMAZING. I've tried following your steps. You don't seem to apply a mask in your video? It's a zillion times better than what I had. But inside... not quite clean cut perfect. I'm not trying to be a perfectionist or anything. How can I refine further? AFTER selecting: the selection goes away. Can I get this selection back or save it? Thanks.
  9. I've been through a tutorial showing how to remove a background. Selection Brush + refine and then add and remove... I got that part. Then I choose refine and choose matte and look at dodgy areas where the selection hasn't quite worked. I've done a good job. But then I notice a button I was trying to remove the background of int he pic has jagged edges. Now I'm stuck. I click around and things don't respond. How do I add to the mask after applying the mask? Do I remove the mask and refine and then add a new mask? I remove the selection: how do I reapply the selection so I can refine parts that I missed? Once the selection is removed, I'm now stuck?? I have to redo all that work! Is there a way I can keep the selection saved within the Affinity file? See the following 2 images... This is the original image: This is my work after a first attempt: This insides of the buttons look terrible! EDIT: I've restarted editing the image. When I try to refine the insides of the button, then it makes it worse! It selects and deselects the wrong parts. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. 🙂 Thanks.
  10. Thanks guys I don't think I need designer from the descriptions you have given
  11. Well... I was hoping someone could tell me Designer does XYZ things that Photo doesn't.
  12. I've got Affinity Photo. Only need it on odd occasions. But it's a life saver. In the past, I would use online free software... but they always were pants! YES, you could do exactly what you wanted... but the interface was slow and cumbersome... and I would end up spending 10x the same time. I don't really do enhancing photos or anything. Most times... just cutting out images or resizing and or adding a shadow. Affinity Designer: half price right now! :) Just wondering if I would ever need? Vectors: I would always pull into Affinity Photo and edit there. Just wondering. Thanks.
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. I followed instructions and worked it out. 🙂 @firstdefence I tried your instructions... just doesn't work for me. Any videos anywhere showing? Thanks
  14. Ooohhh. very nice 🙂 One thing missing was the outline on the white part. How do I add that? How do I do myself from scratch? Thanks.
  15. I need to make a logo with writing... which has a border... then that border has a border that is 5 times as thick and then the same border again. I have Affinity Photo only. How do I make? See below pic attached for a pic that shows what I want. I'm sure it must be simple, but I don't know where to start. Thanks.
  16. Can someone recommend where to get backgrounds to make motivational quotes? I searched online to get some to set as my desktop. OMG - spam after spam. FULL of SPAM! They normally link from Pinterest and just have a super spammy website - with about 10 different 'Download' links. Thanks.
  17. I was asked to sign in after the update of Photo. Just wondering why? Not a problem. Just don't want to see Serif go down Adobe route of making monthly subscriptions.
  18. Take an ordinary portrait photo. Can you apply lighting to it to mimick what a professional lighting setup will give you? Like three main lights, a backdrop light, a light on top of the head etc. Just wondering. 🙂
  19. When I say collage, I mean a grid - always It's for ecommerce Nothing beats a tool Otherwise one has to do work for many minutes - something that can be done in seconds 'Free' they give you 9 image grid for free for example - all others are premium The one I use is this one: www.befunky.com/create/collage - but only free one is 3x3 grid. Fotor used to be good. I gave up. Looked again. Looks good. I found a few others as well Google has in photos! It's pants though. Once collage created, you can't move images. You can't say you want an image in a specific place. Wish it was was part of Photo.
  20. Are there any ready made tools that automate creating a collage in Photo? I end up using a few websites. I haven't found a free tool anywhere else. But then I thought... it should be built into Photo!!? (Well, hoping anyway!) Thanks.
  21. Thanks for the replies. None of this makes sense. ALL I want to do is append white space to the jpg. I don't want to 'recreate' a jpg. Paint on Windows 'seem's' to do this. (I could be wrong.)
  22. Say I have a JPG I want to increase the size of the canvas How can I then save the file as a jpg - without losing quality? If I choose 100% I can end up with a big file. If I choose less quality, I lose quality. JPG - by definition optimises and reduces file size (correct me if I'm wrong). I get that. But then I can use a program like Windows Paint and increase the canvas without compromising the file size or quality. Am I missing something? Thanks.
  23. Can someone tell me how to get the shadows and gradients as show in the image below. The shadows are slightly offset, but also at an angle, so the end has more shadow than other parts. The gradient seems to be a mix of orange with black and white. I'm sure it's super simple and 1 minute job. Thanks in advance.
  24. OMG! That is just magic! 🙂 I couldn't do at first. Tried about 10 times. Now can do. I have no idea what I'm doing - but I can now join 2 pics side by side! THANKS guys. 👍🏼
