    Remember video and animation users...

Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo can be the perfect companion for Final Cut, Motion, Cinema 4D... Maya...

Hector Leon reacted to Malcolm in Exporting at custom resolutions
Wanted to put a request in for custom export resolutions - I've heard it's coming in a later release but thought I'd add my use case.

I use Affinity Designer for making games using our proprietary games engine. For 2d games I often need to export at multiple resolutions e.g., exporting graphics at half size and doubling them at runtime to save runtime memory - think blurred backgrounds etc.

I'm trying to move over to Affinity design from illustrator, the grass feels a little green over here :)
In AI i could use a script to export at any scale by specifying the ppi, and give it a location etc.

The issue I currently have with AD is that it's being too clever and by doing so is very restrictive.
It seems to protect against pixelation of raster graphics by not allowing you to scale up above your base - want 2x then ensure your document setup is set to retina. it only allows 1x 2x and 3x - I often need to scale down or something that isn't 1-3x. It adds a fixed naming convention it doesn't offer separate directories for exporting For Affinity Designer to cater for all pipelines and workflows we need a more relaxed approach. For now I'll have to split my documents up and set the ppi on each accordingly.

    Keep up the great work.

Hector Leon got a reaction from ronnyb in Annoying behavior in some procedures and time savers requests...
    1) I mean Points as unit size instead inches or centimeters..... not as action like point and drag...

    2) Imagine you are doing a forest or an organic pattern and you need to place quickly an object... you can drag.. and while dragging the object when you press space you leave an stamp or clone..--- this is a time save feature ---

    3) Yes you can do these steps... first duplicate the object, then click on the flip tool and select your decided orientation... but for time saving I suggest that make possible in transform if you press shift or command key while drag the object from a side to the opposite side the object flips from the oposited side as pivot with no needs to do several steps another implementation is like it but pressing shift and command and the object flips from its center

4 I work very much with affinity..... to make several type of design... logos, press.. i'm triying yo use as much as i can.... but when i try to divide a node the result is two nodes in same place...... make this simple task:

    a) draw a square

    b) in a side segment insert two nodes....

    c) delete the new segment between the new two nodes only with node tools

steps I need to do for that....   draw the square, in the side segment insert news two nodes, then break them.... unselect the object and select the segment... now delete it......  too many steps for a simple task.......     Regards!!!!

Hector Leon got a reaction from MattP in Change color format in export option
    Hello!

The possibility to change the color space/format at export without needs to change documents setup.

Every time I'm working for impression(CMYK) when I need to send a preview to my clients, I have to change the document setup to RGB and then export to jpg or png and then go back to document setup and re-set the color format to CMYK.........

    Regards!

    +1

I currently use Motionize plugin by Scott Ash for AI. It works but a big limitation is it's inability to export compound shapes and you need to be really careful with the layer structure. Everything is nicely explained on his site.

Hector Leon reacted to Andy Somerfield in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.0.19721)
    Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes
Status: Beta Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer Mac App Store: Not submitted   Improvements / Features   Huge number of Mac OS X Yosemite "Look And Feel" changes and optimisations.   Mac OS X Yosemite will (hopefully!) see a public release soon - so we have been doing a lot of work to make sure we look "at home" there.   Implemented stroke alignment options: Inside, Outside, Centre, renamed panel.   Strokes on vector objects can now specify offset (inside, outside, centre). Also, we called the panel "Line" before, which confused some users who (correctly) refer to these things as "strokes". The "Line" panel is now called "Stroke". The "Stroke" FX item is now called "Outline".   Improved performance of Pencil and Brush Tools, also improved the shapes they create.   Our pencil, vector brush and raster brush tools were waiting too long for input before producing a preview of the stroke - we have fixed this by completely rewriting the algorithm we use to generate our curves from input strokes. Users should now expect immediate, high quality results from all of these tools.   Added ‘Continuous Export’ feature to Export Persona.   Many users asked us to remove the need to press "Export All" in the export persona each time they change something.. Now, once you have done "Export All" once (choosing a folder), you can tick the "Continuous" box and Affinity Designer will automatically re-export slices when they need to be re-exported.   @3x export added, along with iPhone 6 document preset.   We have added a 3x option for export, along with an iPhone 6 preset. We are still unsure how to proceed with the iPhone 6 Plus preset, but will continue to look into it.   Added ability to replace images in-place.   A large number of users, including many ex-Freehand users, wanted Linked images. This will be an Affinity Publisher feature - but we have added a simple "Replace Image" / "Replace Embedded Document" button in the context-toolbar. This should carry people over until Publisher is done.   Added ability to convert any object into a white-is-transparent-black-is-opaque mask   This is useful when working with 1-bit TIFF files, etc.   Vector cut-and-paste.   Designer can now talk "vector" with other apps - so cutting and pasting no longer means rasterising!   Improved JPEG export quality / progressive.   We were setting sub-optimal chroma subsampling flags when exporting JPEG images. This is now fixed - along with a new option to export progressive JPEG, which seems to be making a comeback in the web community. We now also write the correct DPI setting to exported images.   OpenType / Typography.   We have renamed the "OpenType" panel "Typography" - as the settings in there are not specific to OpenType. Numerous bugs / fixes have been implemented (GPOS kerning etc.) along with a number of suggestions from Adam Twardoch (http://www.twardoch.net) - thanks Adam!   SVG export improved   SVG export now includes object names, supports composite transparency as an attribute (rather then forcing rasterisation). Many things are now exported as vector - not rasterised.   PDF export improved   PDF export now correctly honours the ‘text as curves’ checkbox - and many things are not unnecessarily rasterised.   More stuff!   - Many printing improvements. - Convert to Curves should maintain the winding mode of source objects. - Sensible document defaults for CMYK documents. - User-definable tooltip delay. - Pencil and Brush tool ‘Use Fill’ option is now application-wide and saved across sessions. - Swatches are now visible in a list view and use the correct 0-100 values for CMYK. - Added "Convert to Curves" to all shape context toolbars. - "Gamut Check" option for Soft Proof adjustments. - Ability for users with two graphics cards (integrated and discreet) to force Designer to only use the integrated card.   Fixes   We're still writing this (big) list - but basically everything which is marked as [Fixed] in the Bugs section is fixed in this release. Also, every reproducible crash in 1.1.0 is fixed in this release.

Hector Leon reacted to azguy in CDR Import
Please add the ability to import CDR files.

Lately, clients have started mentioning that they would like to move away from CorelDraw.  You might be surprised how many Mac users are using CorelDraw via Bootcamp or Parallels.  Now that Serif (Affinity) is supporting the Mac they want to migrate away from CorelDraw.

However, they feel trapped with CorelDraw because:

They do not want to lose their CDR files created over many years.

In addition, they want to avoid exporting hundreds of files out of CorelDraw one at a time so the files could be used elsewhere.

Here is an opportunity for Affinity to make friends in the Mac community.  Make Affinity products able to perfectly import Adobe and Corel files.  Do this and you will have an automatic customer base for a long time.

Yes, Andy I would find it very useful.  I like how with modern OS X apps I can shut my computer down and all the files just close without asking me if I want to save anything and then all the files reopen when I start the computer up again. Having versions would be nice too. Affinity has a great history panel but I believe a file's old versions will still stay around even after closing the file down which would provide additional functionality. I would also like the duplicate, rename, move to, menu options as well as the ability to change the title and tags by clicking on the menu bar.
