Affinity could create a right to left text option as an chargeable app in their store (if its technically possible - as Adobe did as a plug-in on the older Photoshop). The charge will hopefully defray cost & even make a profit.
In India, Pakistan, Iran, Israel, the Arab world etc large numbers of users or potential users, would make a target user pool. Perhaps @Sean P & the Affinity team will consider it.

Ok, but why wouldn't Affinity team work on this? Many other companies did. And I guess there's somewhere a rtl library they can use.
Anyway, I understood that supporting rtl isn't in the planning for the near future, which is too bad. Why? There are so many users who would like to get this feature.
Lately I designed kind of a school newspaper in Hebrew, and I head to save the background and add the text in PowerPoint, which really complicates the work process, and also causes a less good result.

Hi,
Can you please consider supporting RTL languages like Hebrew and Arabic?
As a Hebrew speaker, I have to write texts In my designs backwards, which makes me frustrated, and I know there are many other people who would like to get this feature.
I use affinity design & photo for around 3 years, and that's the only con I found compared to Adobe's programs.
I know that many rtl-languages speakers don't buy Affinity suit just because of this reason.

I always wonder how a company more recent than affinity, like canva.com, could handle RTL correctly and properly, in the browser, from the get go... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the word you're looking for is ligature based scripts. Ligature and cursive based scripts are different. That said, Hebrew isn't even that. Regardless, myself and millions of people use RTL scripts it all the time, and as far as ligature scripts go, it's a common component of Latin and Cyrillic scripts too. it even works here:
یہ لے بھایٔ بکش دہ مجھے
It's a basic feature. That you don't use it or it looks complicated to you has no bearing on that.

It's ridiculous to me that something as basic as right to left text isn't a built in feature. Even a basic notepad can handle right to left text. I found this plugin that seems to fix it, I expect by converting RTL text to unicode. Affinity Designer and Publisher is unusable for Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, Punjabi, Sindhi, Azeri and Hebrew because they are all RTL scripts. It collectively excludes a billion people. It's a massive oversight.

Let me add my vote for RTL support. It came as a surprise to me that an application advertised as macOS native doesn't.

I second the suggestion of using HarfBuzz as your text-shaping engine. I know you all are probably well beyond that at this point, but I felt it was still worth mentioning in any event. It supports the full range of OpenType features as well as provides native right-to-left language and Oriental ligature support.
But as I just said elsewhere. . . Whether or not you use HarfBuzz, PagePlus proved that you guys have typography as a top-priority, and I trust that you will make it even better in your Affinity product range.

I, too, am waiting for RTL support. Once this is implemented - I'll surely by the program.

I mentioned this because of OpenType features. It should trigger language specific glyph substitutions. I guess at the same time it affects other things like spelling and hyphenation but that's just the text engine.

Hi,
Just wanted to stay if you implement a more sophisticated text engine to support Arabic I would purchase the Affinity Designer. You can take a look into harfbuzz, it's open source and is used as text shaping engine in firefox.
Some other features which is necessary for typography:
1. Ability to insert a glyph from a font. The glyph could have a unicode or not.
2. More languages in the character>language panel.
3. Ability to disable and enable more sophisticated typographic feature like contextual alternates.
If you need any feedback and help regarding typography features in the app I would be glad to contribute.
Best,
Bahman

The latest versions of OS X and iWork finally bring native RTL support to OS X, it would be greatly appreciated if there were some way to finally type in RTL with Affinity Designer. Please and thank you.

I am interested in Affinity designer and photo, but am disappointed that it does not include RTL text support. Apple OSX offers this natively in its apps. I was expecting Affinity to also offer the same as it appears to .
It might be helpful to look at some market numbers for Arabic, Hebrew and Farsi design. It is only expected to explode as one of the strongest emerging markets.

First of all, thank you for making this amazing product. I almost instantly decided to leave Adobe's products after I used Affinity Designer.
One thing I used to find annoying with Photoshop/Illustrator is lack of support for writing text in RTL languages like Arabic or Farsi. It is available only in ME editions which are hard to find and sometimes outdated.
Right now, I couldn't get RTL text writing in Arabic to work with Affinity Designer, and it would be great if this feature was implemented.
Thanks,
