    Hi Kiarian,

It is possible to snap to tangents when drawing construction guides (see below), however it is only available for these guides. It is not possible to do it for regular shape and curve objects.

It's been on the road map since 2015. It's just impossible to compete in logo design against Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw without a vector text warp tool. The text warp in Photo is a great tool. We just need that, along with additional text warp options (the Netflix logo is a prime example) in Designer.
PS. Just reading the new updates/features. Very much looking forward to the video on the new node/pen features - I do love a nice curve!

Praying to the Vector Text Warp Gods to see a lovely new Vector Text Distort tool in Affinity Designer before version 2.0
Or are they saving it for version 2.0?

What farukkk said. I'm in the middle of something now, vectorising an image. All I need to do is slightly warp some text. Now I have to try and find my old Adobe Illustrator log in details and install the dreaded Adobe software.
Hate the Adobe Suite, and I still cannot get my head around Affinity not releasing a basic text warp tool for Designer. I've been reading the original post, and it goes back to 2015.
This isn't any hate on Affinity, love the software, but I cannot see how anyone doing any graphic design can not go back to Illustrator for this one tool. It's such a staple tool for any sort of logo design. Boggles the mind why it isn't a priority!?

I've been an owner and user of Infinity design since it's the first Beta. I love the idea of the program, how it's fast and modern code but over the years I found really using it was difficult since I've been an adobe illustrator user for 25 years. You get used to certain tools and shortcuts, placement of tools etc. Every year I start to play with it and stop out of frustration. This year I'm putting in more time using it for some illustrations which have forced me to learn it's depths. I'm also now starting to see it's many shortcomings. I've tried a few things like starting in illustrator and then finishing and refining in Affinity, it gives me the best of both worlds but it's a pain AND I'm still using an older version of illustrator (5). I'd rather just use Affinity.  I was a huge Adobe supporter for years, doing Beta testing as well as lecturing for them at events. I felt betrayed when they went to a subscription model, It was a cheap cash grab and basically, they said FU to all of their core user base and longtime supporters. Their code has been sloppy and bloated for years and its patched together by chewing gum and string. So many features were never implemented the way they should have been, and even with their promise of addressing these things easily with CC it's still bloated and dodgey.
Now that I've said this how does this relate to warping text?  You guys have had this feature on the roadmap for four years and still don 't have it. Your roadmap features are all seriously important to have and still no movement on implementation. Instead, you spend many of your resources making iPad versions of your programs. I love that you're developing your own version of InDesign (which I'm also beta testing) BUT YOU ARE NEGLECTING your core programs and promised implementations. This is really a shame because it's taking a page out of Adobes awful practices and if I wanted Adobe nonsense I would just stick with their programs instead of trying to migrate and learn yours. I understand as a company you have to earn money.I know you charge a modest amount and give updates for free but you also need to make sure your products are competitive and it feels like they're gathering dust.

    Hi,
I think I'm going mad, but I swear the command to delete a selection (Affinity Photo - selection around an image) was CTRL-X.
CTRL-X is now filling my selection with white. Also if I select an area around my rasterised image and press CTRL J for duplicate. It duplicates it on a new layer, but with a white background?! I want the background to be transparent. I just want my selection.

I've been Googling and Youtubing for half an hour now. How do I delete my selection? Very confused.

Gran Turismo Sport now allow users to import SVG files for the in-game livery editor. The only thing is, the SVG file has to be below 15Kb in memory, which is pretty tiny.
It's a nice challenge though, to chop away as much unneeded information as possible, but to still get a good quality image. I created this vector file using Affinity Designer, which I then exported as the SVG file.
I then used the livery editor to give my bog standard go-kart a new design.

The Gran Turismo screenshots are in game. I'm just showing them to illustrate how the decal design looks on the go-kart!

Not sure about realistic but I had been creating swatches and stuff including some normal conical gradients that evening and afterwards I wasn't in the mood to do anything proper so was just messing around. There aren't many thing you do in a single object.

No idea why I'm posting this but I suppose it's a vector person's idea of doodling and seeing what you can do with a single conical gradient, well two because of the centre. It's good practice for creating them though. Perhaps it will become a fad (not likely). I've included the styles as you'll all want to use them in your projects.

Kiarian reacted to R C-R in Affinity Designer Synchronise Defaults
How so? If you set the opacity as @toltec shows above when any vector object is selected & click the Synchronize defaults from selection button in the toolbar, as the documentation says, that overrides the saved defaults for that document only. That applies to all other applicable stroke & fill attributes as well, including fill color & noise; stroke color, opacity, style, & width; & even the pressure curve for the solid line style.
So in effect, the app provides three sets of stroke & fill attribute defaults: the factory ones, the 'global' user settable ones, & the per document user settable overrides. The per document overrides are great for quickly creating a number of objects with the same stroke & fill attributes without needing to change your preferred global defaults. You can then switch back to the global ones with the Revert defaults button, or create a new per document override for some other objects.
I think one reason you were having problems with setting the opacity default may be that using the number keys changes the layer opacity, not either of the object attribute opacities. It is easy to overlook that functional distinction unless you happen to notice the change in the layer opacity in the Layers panel or are zoomed in far enough to notice that both stroke & fill opacity changes when using the number key shortcuts.

    @Kiarian
    I isn't really a "synchronise from defaults"
What it does is set the attributes of the selected item to be the current settings. "Defaults" is a bit misleading. "Set as current" would be better.
If you want to save opacity, set the opacity in here

Go, Edit > Defaults > Save
When you click on this one,

It will apply whatever you saved as the current attributes for everything (including opacity if set in the context toolbar swatch, as shown) for shapes or closed paths. If something is selected, it applies the attributes to that.

I assumed you created the circular selection using the Elliptical Selection Marquee Tool selected. That's where the feather setting interfere here.
If you CTRL-click a gradient (with no transparency) you should get a clean selection around the content of the gradient (boundaries) which will be entirely deleted when you press the delete key. If the gradient you used for the selection uses transparency or if you pressed CTRL+SHIFT instead (which creates a luminosity selection) then the selection will have varying degrees of transparency which will be reflected in the deleted area when you press the delete key.
