If you mean the "deep learning-based image inpainting model" it probably isn't something we will see in AP any time soon unless some third party develops a dynamic library or framework that includes what that model has learned from being trained with a very large sample of images & permits Serif to use it for free or at a very low cost.

Well, took a few years. 2023, and I think the AI revolution is here. Here is what Apple are doing with using FaceLit technology. Simple 2D images. I don't think it will be long until we see something like this in Affinity Photo and Photoshop.

The point behind the comment was the "why do people have to come here" not just "why do people come here". It wasn't about the questions being simple, but about the functions being non-intuitive, such that users can't understand the simple function without asking.

(I don't agree with the comment, by the way. I think too many users just assume it will be like Photoshop, and do not take the time to educate themselves by examining the Help or the Tutorials before they dive in.)

My bad. Just read that totally wrong on the phone 📱 I'll give myself a slap.

The registration error is not related to having the prior registration. It is some different problem.

You can try exiting the application, then right-clicking on it and choosing Run as Administrator. Then you may be able to Register, and after that use the application as normal.

Does not work. I cannot sign in to my software regardless if I open as Administrator. I click on the Mt Account icon on the top right, try to sign in but get this error message

'We're sorry - Something went wrong during registration or sign-in'.

  4. Neither Affinity Photo or Designer are 3D painting applications. You're not going to beat the free Quixel Mixer, which is insanely powerful and has yet another update today. Kirk23 makes a great point that if the Affinity software is going to have any sort of gaming specific functions, it should compliment these 3D painting applications. It's not trying to compete with them. I also noticed today that both Affinity Photo and Designer now have NVIDIA accelerated features. Nice!

  5. I did ask 'does Affinity have any plans in the future'.
I'm not saying it's something anyone needs right now. We have Affinity Photo/Designer/Publisher, an entire suite. So we now have all the core software in a complete form. Of course a portfolio trumps any piece of paper, isn't that obvious? As for how would certification help you, clearly it would help you in the job market - Autodesk and Adobe do it specifically for this reason, but yes at the moment it would take a lot of time and money to set up and organise.
I'm only a hobbyist, but I have worked in other areas/disciplines, and in those areas being Autodesk Certified for example is like having a massive stamp on your CV saying that this person knows their stuff. Saves the client the risk of hiring someone who has absolutely no idea about the software (which does happen).

I think when it first launched there was one.

There hasn't been an Affinity Publisher workbook as of yet. I prefer workbooks to read offline as well as go through. Something a lot more satisfying having a tactile new workbook, with that new book smell...... ooooohhhh that new book smell - If they bottled that as an aftershave I'd buy it!

  7. Can someone help me out here? I create a circle (10px by 10px) with a thickness of 2, CTRL+J to copy, go into the Transform box and type +8 in the W: and H: section. So I now have my duplicate circle (increased 8 pixels both in the width and height). OK, so all I want to do now is to power duplicate and keep pressing CTRL+J however many times I want to make these circles, each one 8 pixels larger than the previous. Isn't the expression of +8 in both the W and H correct?
I'm not getting each circle +8 pixels larger than the last.

  8. +1 this. I'm just about to buy the game F1 2020 (PC version). You can create your own custom livery and import it into the game. But, uses .dds support. Check Affinity.... nope.
I remember not too long back Affinity had no TGA support which it does now, so I'm hoping this will be another option to export than can simply be added to the software, pretty please!

Hi Sorry for opening such an old thread but I have just joined here due to getting into GT Sport's designing side of things more than the driving. I am looking to do some real livery on a car that will be replicated to my rear track car but I cannot get any SVG's to load. I have tried all online converters I can find, I have files down even to 5KB and it keep saying invalid file format. Can someone please advise and help on this who have experience in successfully converting and loading images.

    Thanks

    Carl

They need to be .svg files which I think is what you have, but they have to be tiny, 15kb from the last time I checked. Are you sure your files are 5kb, or are they 5MB?

  10. Using Affinity Photo on Windows 10, pressed F1 for help, loads up window. All fine. But now the help window is stuck in taskbar and cannot open. Closed and restarted. Opened up Designer and Publisher, and help is fine on those two. Still stuck on Affinity Photo. Any advice? I was trying to find out the clip to canvas toggle option. Image outside of canvas not showing, I want it to show, so two queries. Any help and advice appreciated.

Just other thought hit me now. This 3D components in Affinity will need surely 3D acceleration to work well, right? Does that mean Photo will gain 3D card acceleration under Windows with that update? Also for 2D? As far as I know Mac has it already, right?
If thats the case, man this is going to be epic update... Probably for 2.0? Can you confirm anybody? ;)

According to James Ritson's reply to a similar question on yesterdays Lockdown 2020 YouTube presentation, we will be seeing a significant update for Windows 10 which will be using GPU acceleration. Apparently this is still in the testing stage, but is very quick. Looking forward to the Affinity Suite making use of GPU RAM in the same way other software is doing.

That is some very cool stuff. Nothing useful for me but the effect is amazing. I know Photoshop has 3D capabilities, I toyed with some 3D models a while back. Does Photos have any 3D capabilities at all?

Not that I know of. Definitely something for the future though. The technology isn't too far away though, couple of years I reckon. In the future we'll be able to look behind photos! :P

  13. I received an email from NVIDIA promoting a new technique for converting a 2D photo into a 3D image. Article quotes:

'To convert a single RGB-D input image into a 3D photo, a team of researchers from Virginia Tech and Facebook developed a deep learning-based image inpainting model that can synthesize color and depth structures in regions occluded in the original view.
"Classic image-based reconstruction and rendering techniques require elaborate capture setups involving many images with large baselines, and/or special hardware,” the researchers stated in their paper,
3D Photography using Context-aware Layered Depth Inpainting. “In this work, we present a new learning-based method that generates a 3D photo from an RGB-D input. The depth can either come from dual-camera cell phone stereo or be estimated from a single RGB image."
'To show the potential of the project, a separate researcher from Google has taken the code and developed a Chrome extension that turns every Instagram post into 3D images. Developers interested in setting up the extension can follow the tutorial to set up and run the project using NVIDIA GPUs on the Google Cloud Platform'

Is this something Affinity Photo might have on the horizon? This isn't simply cutting away chucks of an image to then move in a parallax motion, the technique actually looks to give objects 3D properties.

Also see YouTube link using this technique on old historic photos. The results are amazing. The picture comes alive!

    Hi again,

Further to the other things, we are looking to add more support for game art users - can't promise this for 1.9 but we are working on it..

    3d.jpg

(I have two documents open here - you can see the texture itself, the other document is the normal map - both are being edited and a realtime preview is being rendered on a .obj model in the new Model panel).

    Thanks,

    Andy.

Excellent. Count me in on any Betas!
