  1. Hi all,

I need help making a proper square or any shape with perfect sharp corners/strokes.

I can’t find out how to do so - am I missing something or is this a limitation of Photo’s engine?

Please see the attached screenshot. Anything drawn has round corners, even the Pen tool and the Pixel brush!

The only way I can get sharp corners is to import a vector object but even then it’s borders lose opacity and it doesn’t look right.

I really don't know if this is a bug or if I'm doing something wrong but when I use the smart selection brush on an image on iPad Pro and then I pan zoom around the image the selection is gone and the interface is non-responsive.  I have to force quite the program and start over and just remember to not move the image - not ideal.  Just like in the desktop version I need to pan/zoom around the screen in order to get a better initial selection before I refine.

Has this been fixed in the beta?  I just asked to be added to TestFlight?  Or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Yes it was fixed quite a while ago in beta, and I think it made it to App Store too (v 1.6.4, 2 weeks ago).

I‘m still not able to store/copy *.afphoto files to any of my cloud storages!

    I have installed:

    - dropbox

    - box

    - google drive

    - amazon drive

    - magenta cloud

    - dscloud (synology)

    etc.

I‘m able to open/import files from there, but NO way back.

I‘m not using iCloud Drive and never will so.

It’s not possible yet to share .afphoto except to iCloud/Files app from my experience. I hope to see this feature too.

  3.

Actually, to take care of that yellow tint, I had a duplicate layer with only the blue channel. Using blend mode as lighten makes it look like the original image.

Not sure if the blur will act the same in a blend mode though.

Then I guess you could group these two layers.

If that doesn't make sense, please disregard. I'm a noob.

    #UPDATE#

Nevermind, I see the yellow tint with the blur!

  4. Hi @bit98,

Here's how to isolate a channel for applying edits:

    09D54D6D-0A55-4BA9-88BF-A1FA90145E64.thumb.jpeg.85b07c407bc0859e619e1fdf225cf4e4.jpeg

    See it in action:

    9EBA8F80-5DF0-4AFC-8A30-FD4FF68FA30B.MOV

Clicking in the 'edit icon' will toggle it on or off. Disabling it for a specific channel will prevent changes to that channel.

Similarly, the 'eye icon' will allow you to toggle channel visibility.

There's a tuto on this, scroll down to the Channel section:

  5. See attached.

When in portrait mode and there are lots of layers, I can't scroll down to the bottom the list. If that glitch is active and I rotate to landscape it will persist.

The only fix is to close the layer group, be in landscape, open the layer group. I can then scroll all the way down until I do some other manipulation, after which I may be restricted again.

    Hey,

    I'm so desperate.

I have been trying to apply picture with transparent background on another picture, but all what I am getting is picture with white background.

I am pretty sure such a great tool as Affinity allows to work with transparent background, but I have no idea how and I am so lost.

    Please someone heeelp.

    Many thanks,

Does the attached video help? It's about converting a canvas with white bckg to a transparent one.

Agree that stacking uses JPG and not RAW.

Regarding importing though, I've successfully imported 3 x 25MB .NEF files using "New Stack" without a problem (although as mentioned earlier it seems it's the JPG part of the file that's imported, despite the RAW files being selected for import). I'm using a 64GB iPad Air 2 with Affinity Photo for iPad 1.6.3 and iOS 11 beta 5.

If you import the NEF file from iOS photo gallery in stacking, you'll end up with the JPG.

Try copying a few NEFs to iCloud first, then import them in Affinity Photo in the stack mode, this time it'll import the actual RAW file.

Then, I presume you'll experience the crash!

  8. Hi,

Please compare the first two attached items, which are the final outputs of a focus stack.

    1+2+3+4:59945ee500b80_1234.thumb.png.66f7951d9fa32d8f5f100f98c424048a.png  VS  59945f2ae38c6_AB.thumb.png.64a63d80feef91389798de7da708571e.png:A+B (i.e. [1+2] + [3+4])

    Here's what's going on:

1+2+3+4.png is a focus stacked image from 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, & 4.jpg >> The result is blurry, so I tried dividing the task to help the alignment algorithm.

    A (1+2).png is a focus stack using only photo 1 & 2, while B (3+4).png is one using 3 & 4. >> These 2 intermediates, when combined will contain all 4 focus points (as would 1+2+3+4).

A+B.png is a focus stack of A (1+2).png and B (3+4).png. >> This result is what I expected initially when merging the 4 photos at one go.

This means that the current alignment is not optimal, perhaps you could offer an alternate mode where Photo would proceed by using intermediate image states, as I did above.
There are different ways to approach this, perhaps the same result could be obtained by first combining 1 and 2, then the resulting image to 3, and finally the latter combination to 4 to get the final output. Or alternately, use some kind of algorithm/AI to determine the closest set of images to merge sequentially before the final render.

Is this logic legit? I tried, it's repeatable.

    Thanks.

    1:1.JPG     2:2.JPG     3:3.JPG     4:4.JPG     A (1+2):A (1&2).PNG     B (3+4):B (3&4).PNG

  9. Found what converts a folder renamed to ocio extension as a package:

    Quote

Folders can have a suffix too. If your OS X System knowns the file extension, it will change the icon (after renaming) and link it to the App that can handle that extension (and is set as default App to open those file types).

The folder then becomes a package or container, where you cannot easily look inside by browsing in finder. But you can right-click on it and choose "Show Package Contents" to see what is inside.

I tried installing Affinity Photo Trial on the macOS, hoping it'd register the extension, but I didn't work.
Having a look at "Info.plist" from the "Affinity Photo.app" package contents, .ocio doesn't figure as a handled extension.

Meaning, Affinity guys have something installed that makes .ocio being recognised as a document type in macOS, which is why this works for them but not regular users.

Copy the folder to your iCloud drive on macOS first, once its finished uploading rename the folder it so it has an .ocio extension.  When you select to import from iCloud the .ocio file should register/associate itself with Affinity Photo so it can be selected.

    Hi Lee,

Please refer to the video from:

This method doesn’t work for us common mortals, even if followed to the letter!

  11. I believe the image you see in the Camera Roll is just a jpg preview stored in the RAW file. Few apps on iOS shows the actual RAW images (attached is an example).

That jpg includes any post modification made on the RAW file (e.g. cropping by your camera software) while the actual RAW file remains as natively shot.

My guess is that your camera shoots 3:2 natively (max sensor coverage) and just apply the 4:3 cropping afterwards without modifying the RAW file (storing the metadata in a separate file in the camera folder, or perhaps embedded in its own slang). Hence when the RAW file is handled by Affinity, it wouldn't know about ulterior modification made by the camera software.

  12. Having the choice is great, but from time to time I rely on thumbnails to swift through the extensive presets (I'm not an advanced designer).

On that note, I would like to see accurate thumbnails, please refer to the attached video.

The initial state of the image is a non-flipped one, and thumbnails doesn't seem to take any modification into consideration.

Granted, that would involve having small snapshots generated for the thumbnail preview (using resources), but rather have such accurate thumbnail previews, or none at all.

  13. Issue since 1.6.2, present in this beta:

Whenever using two-finger panning, the marquee/marching ants would sporadically disappear.
    Zooming in/out would restore it.

    See attached video.

    ##Update##

It's the case when using the Pen tool as well.

    |

    Also,

When converting a curve to a selection, if the curve has been hidden in the layers panel, it doesn't produce a selection at all!

I doubt this is the intended behaviour.
