lepr reacted to Medical Officer Bones in Filter Gallery and Artistic Filters?
G'MIC has a very nice selection of artistic filters. Download Krita, which has a selection of artistic filters and the complete G'MIC built-in. Open source and free.
https://krita.org/en/
https://gmic.eu/
Would be nice if Affinity Photo would include G'MIC at some point.
To use Krita, download from krita.org, drag/open your image/developed RAW from Photo in Krita, then open the Filter-->Start G'MIC-Qt. Look under "Artistic". Aside from these you will find a bunch more under "Filters-->Artistic".

lepr reacted to sun1 in Thumbnails panel to show all open files in AF Photo
A Thumbnails overview (e.g. thumbnails panel) additional to the tabs or included in the tabs would be very nice to switch between all open files! Also a possibility to rename the tabs without saving the file to get a tab name.
A function to arrange all windows ( e.g. of 14 open images) would be also good. Like Arrange windows (images) side by side, stacked. The actual windows function is not satisfying and not a real help to work with many open files (for Documentations etc.).
Thanks a lot and keep on going with your good work!

lepr reacted to PNTX in Scroll-select for layers
Hello,
In PS you can "scroll-select" layers. I'm not sure how this feature is normally called, so please have a look at my example picture. You LMB-click on one layer, have the LMB pressed down, and then you drag over other layers you want to enable or disable respectively. This is a very convenient feature I'd like to see in Affinity Photo, too. :-)

lepr reacted to Sarper in Seamless Perlin Noise
The perlin noise filter and such other filters should ideally be tileable seamlessly. In it's current form they are not usable for shader work. I'm forced to use PS or any other seamless perlin noise generator until then.

lepr reacted to Sara72 in how to do this in black and white
Hi,
You could try a crosshatch effect, if you got the free Frankentoon's Texture brushes, there is a nice crosshatch brush in set C, brush FT pencil cross-hatching 02.
Bring in your original png image and create a new pixel layer above, then just paint all over with the hatch brush, then add blend mode Overlay, 100% on the pixel layer, merge down and then go to the Threshold adjustment, i set it to 30% but you might want to play with the settings, the 3 main steps are shown below.

lepr reacted to felixfaire in "Script" / "Code" Persona
I was directed to this forum by the affinity twitter after sharing the inspiring work of @_baku89 in building procedural vector drawing tools with scripts (see below).
example video
interactive web demo
I have seen a couple of "script"-esque feature requests abound general automation but none on building actual drawing tools. The number of designers that can code seems to be increasing exponentially thanks to the ease of javascript and creative coding frameworks such as processing.org and paper.js etc. No one in the vector drawing space seems to be taking advantage of this (ie affinity or adobe). Being able to script the affinity drawing API with little functions such as in baku's "pentool" (above) to create new shapes and tools would create a rich developer ecosystem and explode affinity designer's feature set into things Adobe illustrator simply cannot do (rather than just doing everything illustrator does but better).
This feature might take the form of a "Code" persona or "Code brush" tool that allows people to write or download short scripts to modify or create procedural content. Having a fully featured and public vector drawing api (such as the html canvas / svg etc) would allow users to build tools for other users (like copy-pasteable plugins) and i imagine lots of responses to current feature requests such as blendshapes etc would simply become "someones made an af script for that".
I understand this is a non trivial / long term feature, however there is a whole (growing) industry of creative coders (myself included) that I can see rushing towards this type of tool and helping develop exciting new drawing tools for other designers that cannot code (yet). This would literally be a game changer in vector drawing apps and someone will do it eventually. I just really hope Affinity Designer does it first.
Ps. If you allow "Persona's" to be developed as native affinity plugins you might find that someone will do most of the legwork for you..

lepr reacted to IPv6 in Hotkeys for Flow parameter of Brushes
AP currently has nice hotkeys for changing opacity of active brush (1 - 2 - 3 - ... - 0), and this works well with all tools that has this opacity parameter.
But there is a problem: some brush-based tools do not have opacity! they have only Flow/Strength! Specifically i`m talking about "Paint mixer brush" and "Smudge brush tool"
From user point of view, flow-strength is very similar to opacity ("force" of the brush), and tools without hotkeys to modifying this "tool force" on-the-fly feels half-assed. And using this tools without quick access to changing Flow/Strength (via hotkey, toolbar buttons are "slow") is annoying, comparing to "opacity-enabled" tools. This hotkeys does not have to be predefined app-wide (there is not much free keys left on keyborad, after all), but even non-defaulted keystrokes in keystroke panel of setting on this brushes would help. I mean - if brush options (for "Paint mixer brush" and "Smudge brush tool") in keystroke tab of settings will contain empty (non-initialized) items for settings flow/strength to 10-30-70-100 - this would be enough
Also, please add ability to set hotkey to "Load brush" button of "Paint mixer brush".
Thanks!
