Jaffa got a reaction from RichardMH in Unable to add Topaz Denoise AI as an add on to Affinity Photo V2
Many thanks, Richard, that's exactly what I had done this time! A bit perplexed as to how it kept happening a few months back, when I tried with a number of images, when I certainly applied properly. Never mind it works now and that's great!

Are you applying DeNoise to a pixel layer? Try Merge Visible then applying DeNoise to that.

Jaffa reacted to RichardMH in Topaz Denoise AI not installing in Affinity Photo 2 - Windows 11 desktop
You are applying it to a pixel layer?

The Caps-Lock key now activates/toggles the Cross Hair for brushes, maybe he is hitting that

Jaffa reacted to carl123 in Rasterizing a pixel layer that has a lock, takes off the lock
There is sometimes
But to hazard a guess of why the lock is removed...
I would guess that when you Rasterise a pixel layer you are actually replacing that layer with another one (the rasterised version) so the original layer with the Lock no longer exists
Similar to if you used the command Rasterise to Mask the new (replaced layer) would have no lock on it
But I can understand why some users would find the lock being removed, when rasterising a layer, a bit confusing

Jaffa reacted to Ron P. in Move Tool video tutorial by InAffinity - have things changed in version 1.9
@Jaffa,
First I confirmed what you found, double-clicking on a shape selects the Node tool. However, I then watched his video and what he does is selects the Move tool first, then double-clicks on a shape, AND points out that doing so selects the node tool. So yes the correct behavior seems to be, when double-clicking on a shape, will cause the node tool to be selected.

Jaffa got a reaction from Granddaddy in Affinity asks whether to save changes, when there are none
Greetings
I notice that approx 90% of the time, when I have made many changes (including using layers, etc) I save the image with a title. Next, I "export" the image in the Photo Persona, giving parameters, all goes well. Then, when I go to close down, I get a message do you want to "save changes". Well, I have not made changes, because exporting from the Photo Persona, do not encapsulate such changes, so that the query does not mean anything. As I said above, this is approx 90% of the time, the other, approx 10% of the time, I am not asked, which is completely logical.

Jaffa reacted to Leigh in [KNOWN ISSUES] Common issues found in the Affinity 1.9.0 update
Problems registering Affinity apps
INFORMATION NO LONGER RELEVANT This post has been edited as the solution it describes was only relevant to 1.9.0 and it's wording was confusing people using later versions.

Jaffa reacted to firstdefence in Open a new "empty" layer
The new pixel layer looks black i.e. it's not showing the transparency pattern but if you turn off all the other layers and have Document > Transparent Background set you will see the new pixel layer is in fact transparent.
I've checked this on windows and Mac and it's the same when using the latest retail releases.

Jaffa reacted to MEB in How to tell which brush was used
Hi b_mer,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
As far as i know, no, there's no way to know which brush was used.
I'm moving this thread to the Feature Requests section.

Jaffa got a reaction from Richard55 in advice on what photo organiser to use with Affinity
Personally I use the old stand-alone, fully paid, Lightroom 6, which works fine for me at present, Richard. However, I recognise that at some point in the future, I will need to change. To get better answers, you should detail more of what you are looking for, apart from organising -- eg, Batch processing, key-word tags, cost, etc.

Jaffa reacted to PaulEC in Best place to start for beginners - Legacy videos?
From looking at a few of them, they seem fairly basic and the basic concepts don't really change that much. But, as GarryP says, you really do need to have a look at them to see which ones to recommend to others.

Jaffa reacted to Callum in Missing Brushes
Hi RosieH,
I have attached the old painting category to this post. If you go into the vector persona you should be able to import it into the brushes tab.
Thanks
Callum

Jaffa got a reaction from Granddaddy in Convert Pen Tool path into Selection in Affinity Photo?
Just a final thought, not one you asked - but can be a trap. If you have your path, then use the node tool to make curves etc, then before you finalise your selection, you need to go back to the Pen Tool to find "selection" in the context bar.

Jaffa reacted to IanSG in What is the optimum number of cores and threads for a CPU for Affinity Photo?
I was looking at this yesterday because of your other thread. I found a post from one of the Serif staff saying that Affinity software tries to use as many threads as possible, but I didn't see anything suggesting a limit. Your proposed new processor doesn't seem to support hyperthreading - I was trying to work out the implications of that before replying.

Jaffa reacted to firstdefence in Inverted selections when the original selection is done with soft edges chosen
Yes, in all instances I used soft edges. With regard to that obvious blip, I think that might have more to do with my selection observation than a failure of the soft edges option.

Jaffa got a reaction from Fixx in 16 bit and 8 bit during processing
Thanks Fixx, that gives me the info I need.
I was aware that repeated opening of Jpegs can lose quality. When I have finished my editing, then I export my image at 100% using Resampling as Lanczos 3 Non-Separable.
-
Jaffa reacted to Fixx in 16 bit and 8 bit during processing
Well, the difference may be too small to show. I generally use TIFF format in my printed matter (and most of the online materials too) as images will be compressed anyway to JPEG within PDF and I want to avoid repeated compressions, and it is always possible that I will have to open image again to make some corrections. But generally it should make no difference in normal print jobs. Only in very high end printing will benefit from 16-bit or uncompressed files. Of course JPEG compression quality must never be set too low.
-
Jaffa reacted to walt.farrell in 16 bit and 8 bit during processing
Yes, because JPG does not support 16-bit images. If you were to choose a different format, such as PNG or TIFF, you would have a choice of 16-bit or 8-bit at Export time using the More... dialog.

So, you are saying that the IR Baboon, under your name is correct and that you are located at Castle Grayskull is correct - that seems eminently suitable
. I will try elsewhere!

Jaffa reacted to walt.farrell in Text on a Curve - to Rasterize or Not to Rasterize??
You do not need to do anything with the Text Tool before running the macro. Just create your vector shape or path, and with it selected, run the macro. That will turn the shape/path into a Curve Text or Path Text object, and will insert some sample text. You will end up with the Artistic Text Tool active, and the cursor at the start of the text. To adjust the start/end points drag the colored triangles.
Next, delete that text. You can then set the font, font size, and stroke color you want in the Context Toolbar.
