Ladycarolineartist reacted to PhotoNewbie in Giving up on AP for iPad FOR NOW
I had issue with my Raw photos, taken with my Canon 5D Mark III, imported into my MBP's Apple Photos, opening in AP for iPad even after the 1.6.3 update.  All I got was a "Loading from Photos" msg forever.  Asked about it on this forum with no answers. So, I deleted the App reinstalled it, kept trying that w/no success, until 3rd time. Wala, success, a Raw photo loaded and even Develop Persona showed up.  I was one happy camper.  Even tho after editing/exporting/sharing/save image, the jpeg is 31 mb.
Then my 2 week old 12.9" iPad Pro began issues with its backup to iCloud.  As in, it would not.  Apple CS did all they could, ran diagnostics (no issues w/ipp found).  So advised me to Reset/Erase All Settings and setup as a new iPad, initially I had setup this new iPad up with the last backup from iCloud of my previous iPad.   If that didn't work, an Apple Store/Genius Bar visit was required.  So, I was lucky, that procedure is now allowing backup to iCloud to work.  BUT, that of course, caused me to have to download from my Purchased Apps, Affinity Photo for iPad AGAIN.  I am now back to my original issue of raw photos not loading.  I have tried the delete app/reinstall four times now with no success this time.
So, for now, AP for iPad, is shelved.  I will try it again after each update it gets, hoping for use in the future.  The few days I was able to use it, along with my Apple Pencil, I loved it, even more than editing in AP on my MBP.
This post is nothing more than a vent so feel free to ignore it.  So long til later, I hope!

I wouldn't hold my breath for a separate tool but the same results should be achievable when we introduce the modifier keys.

Lady, in trying to Subtract inside a selection, did you make sure that "Snap To Edges" was turned off in the Smart Selection Brush context bar?  I couldn't do it either until I turned that off, then I could make an "inside" selection.

Ladycarolineartist reacted to MEB in Repair Tool not working on a layer, why?
    Hi mATriX2305.
If you look at the label of the layer you were trying to inpaint - the one that wasn't working - (in small letters, all caps) above the layer's name in the Layers Studio you will see that it says Image, while the other - the background layer - where it worked says Pixel.

The difference between the two is that Image layers retain the original image data of the inserted/placed image (you have inserted this image in the document using the Place command). These layers are considered object layers. This means you can transform them (scale, rotate skew etc) without losing quality but you cannot perform any actions that affect their pixel data.

To be able to do it you have to rasterise the layer, which will convert the Image layer to a Pixel layer type (using the DPI specified in Document Setup). Pixel layers are the usual raster layers you are expecting where you can perform all type of pixel-editing/based operations - including inpainting. Hope this clears it a bit.

I think we were going to suggest this but we were concerned about potentially scratching the screen. As I said above, we should be able to do this eventually when we add the modifiers  :D

That works well...if you have large hands and can hold both ends of your straight edge snug against the bezel.  I'm still hoping for a string-type straight line tool where you position one end then drag the other to the desired destination.

    Hey Ladycarolineartist,

I just want to follow up with what Callum said. He is correct, there is currently no way to draw a straight line with the brush tool. I was sure this was possible as I had accidentally done it but that looks like it was a palm rejection issue when using an Apple Pencil.

So, I just went over to development and asked if this will ever be possible and they said yes, eventually. It won't be days and possibly not weeks but they are looking at implementing some sort of modifier key somewhere on the UI at some point.

Sorry we can't help you right now but it will be possible in the near future :)
