  1. Thanks for the reply, MEB. Your process is essentially what I’ve done, so I’m reassured that I was doing things correctly. My confusion comes when Affinity Photo asks to save the document before closing and returning to Photos. If you can’t save a copy as afphoto file, as you say, what exactly is being saved? I’ll have to look at this again when I’m at my computer later today. I appreciate the help. Ed
  2. Does anyone know of a tutorial describing the use of Affinity Photo as an extension in Apple’s Photos? I’ve tried to use Affinity Photo to edit my photos in Photos and I have a few questions. 1. Do I have a to save a copy of the edits I apply in AP as an AP document before the edits are applied and returned to Photos? 2. If I edit a RAW file, what type of file is returned to Photos? Is it a JPG? TIFF? I’m trying to incorporate Affinity Photo into my workflow using Photos and I’m trying avoid saving many different copies/versions of an image. Thanks. Ed
  3. I've been slowly working through the exercises in Affinity Photo Workbook and so far I think the book is very well done. In Chapter 3 on page 170 the process is described for exporting a photo for print as a TIFF file. When attempting to follow these steps, AP tells me the document does not allow exporting. I can't save a copy of this image either. Is this done to protect the copyright holder of this image in the workbook to prevent non-authorized use? I'm assuming these steps will work on one of my own images. Just curious.... Thanks, Ed
  4. Duh! I should’ve known that. Completely forgot about the OS System preferences. Thanks for the reply. Ed
  5. I've noticed that both in the video tutorials and in the Affinity Photo Workbook, that when a layer is selected in the layers panel, it is highlighted in blue. In my version of Affinity Photo (1.6.6), the selected layers are highlighted in a brownish/gold color. Is this highlight color something that can be changed? Should I be concerned or not worry about this difference. I'm still learning Affinity Photo. Thanks! Ed
  6. Ok, I figured out how to delete the presets. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing differently than previously, but I have created new crop presets, and have been able to delete them. One thing I finally realized is if you set the crop mode to "absolute dimensions", it creates a crop size exactly the size you enter, either in pixels or inches. However, this crop is not constrained and can be resized by dragging the handles. I originally thought this too would be constrained. I think I understand this now. Thanks again for the insights. Ed
  7. Thanks for the replies. I think I have a little better understanding of setting crop presets. I do know about deleting presets and have tried to delete some presets that I have created as suggested by stokerg, but it doesn’t work for some of the presets. It does work for other presets that I have created. I’m not sure what I might have done differently to create presets that in some cases can be deleted and some cases can’t be deleted. I’ll have to go back and look at this a little more carefully. Thanks for the advice. Ed
  8. I'm using Affinity Photo 1.6.6 on an iMac running OS X 10.12.6 and have a question about creating crop presets. I've created some which I thought were constrained, but when I use them the crops are not constrained. I can't delete these presets either. I'm pretty sure I was able to create some presets that actually were constrained, and these I could delete. I've tried re-launching Affinity Photo with the control key pressed to clear the crop presets, but these un-constrained presets remain. I'm not sure what I might have done to create these presets that are not constrained and I would like to delete them if possible. How can insure my presets will be constrained when I create them, and how can get I delete these unconstrained presets. Thanks!! Ed
  9. MEB, Thank you for your prompt reply. What you say makes sense to me, and cleared up some question I had regarding cropping etc. Thank you very much! Ed
  10. I was trying to add a border to a photo using Affinity Photo by resizing the canvas. I've done this before, following the video, but tonight got a strange result. I had my image, with 3 adjustment layers. Selecting "Resize canvas", I changed the units to inches and clicked the lock to unlock constraints and set the anchor point to the center. I added an inch to document to both the width and height. When I clicked Resize, the canvas was only extended around three sides of the image, not the whole image. Why would this happen? I think there is something I don't quiet understand about how layers interact with each other especially if one crops and/or resizes a document. I solved the problem by adding layer which merged all visible layers. Now I was able extend the canvas on all four sides. I don't think the video does this and I know I've been able to do this, but I'm not sure what I might have done to cause this behavior on this particular document. Thanks for any help!! Ed
  11. When I open a RAW file in Affinity Photo and enter the Develop Persona, the histogram appears bunched to the left. The photo doesn't look that underexposed. Is this normal? I've attached a picture of what I see. Thanks in advance. Ed
  12. Thanks, MEB, That video helps a lot. I'm still learning about Affinity and seeing how it might work best with my current workflow. I'll definitely think about requesting a special video in the video tutorial thread. Thanks again for your prompt repsonse. Ed
  13. I've recently purchased Affinity Photo to use as a photo editor along with Apple's Photos. I've been slowly working my way through all the excellent video tutorials in order to learn this program. Are they any videos describing the workflow using Affinity as an editing extension in Photos? I know it can be done, and I've already edited both JPEG's and RAW files from Photos. I just wanted to see if I'm doing it correctly and if there's anything I'm missing. I'm using Affinity 1.5 on my iMac running OS X 10.12.5 (Sierra). Thanks Ed
