Imo, this is a rather big and silly oversight. When using AP as a painting tool, this can be a very much used feature. I use it about a hundred times per painting.
Anyway, I have an easier workaround than the flood fill tool, because let's face it, who has the time to switch tools in mid painting flow?

It's simple: Select all layer content (ctrl+a). Now pressing delete or backspace will result in the layer being cleared, but not removed.

While painting in AP I make it a habit to always paint with the entire layer selected, so I can just press delete at any time. This prevents me from wanting to commit suicide when doing stuff like trying out brushes.

But seriously, this workaround should not be required at all.

    Good luck!

Are you referring to the iPad version (I didn't know you could do ctrl-a)?

  2. It wouldn't be quite so annoying if it was more consistent in how it placed them in layers, as is, it doesn't seem to respect when I pick THIS layer.  It may or may not start placing them outside that layer if I don't follow some arcane series of actions that it wants me to.  In Adobe Illustrator, when I select a layer, that is the layer it does EVERYTHING in until I change it. Affinity's groups are more troublesome by far.

  3. Started trying to use Designer, is there any way to streamline how it floods my layers with shapes?  I can group them, but there’s a whole sequence of taps till I am sure that the shapes I am making (lines, etc) are going to go in the group I want... Barely 30 seconds in and I usually have dozens of separate items that I have to drag into a group, which then promptly opens to show all the contents, then I have to tap the group again to close it, drag the newest shapes into it, repeat.  Very tedious.  Can I somehow just say, “put the damn things on the layer I assign and stop bugging me about it?”

  4. I absolutely agree, the whole thing where an additional bar appears on double finger tap and you then have to select an additional option to undo is, frankly, stupid.  How would you feel if you went to copy/paste CTRL-C/CTRL-V on a Windows machine and instead of just copying and pasting, after hitting CTRL-C a menu popped up which spanned the screen horizontally.  You  then had to move the mouse and click COPY, then after hitting CTRL-V a menu popped up which spanned the screen horizontally.  You then had to move the mouse and click PASTE.

Getting the idea why interposing additional menus is not nearly as seamless as just double finger tap undo?  To me this is like asking McDonalds why they don't fire cook hamburgers like Burger King, the response is, "..oh they do it that way so we can't."

  5. Is there ANY WAY you can add a simple feature to lock the darn thing (bottom toolbar).  I can hardly bring myself to draw now that I keep expecting to trigger the color wheel or alpha protect button.  Surely a simple lock toggle for the toolbar is not beyond the Dev team's programming skills?

Tried turning on the touch/gesture thing and it STILL goes off sometimes when my palm is right there to draw on the screen.  No joy.

  6. Hi Moriturimax,

    1) "Ctrl/Cmd + D" for deselect a "marching ants" selection.

    2) To delete a layer, select it in the layer window and click on the "trash" at the bottom right of the window

Thanks, as for 2, I don't want to delete the layer, just want to clear the contents on the screen, and keep the different things I had done to it, like Multiply modifier, and so forth... and yes I am on the iPad.. heh

  7. The Pixel Persona deals with raster objects. All of its tools create/manipulate pixels (raster data) which are resolution dependent and lose quality when you resize/scale them up or down. Ideally you should work with documents with the same size they will be exported to preserve the sharpness of the raster data/pixels. You may want to use this Persona when you want to produce "painted" illustrations you draw freely based on raster brushes (Paint Brush Tool) using a tablet/pen or to complement/shade a vector illustration created in Vector Persona for example.

Where is this Pixel Persona in Affinity Photo?  Trying to get some imported brushes to work right, saw this referenced in another post, but can't find it.. not sure if that person was talking about Photo....\

  8. I tried to import some abr brushes from an artist named Sparth. They didn't come in looking at all like they did in photoshop.. almost all the brushes look like small images but in Affinity they are all stretched out. What is the process for bringing them in correctly? While searching for an answer I saw a post where someone said if they were raster, you had to use pixel persona... I have no idea how to turn that on, or if it even applies to the iPad affinity photo app.
