  1. Answers to your questions Dan C - Most common fonts are Times and Times New Roman for text and headings, and Helvetica for graphic and illustrations. I have had experience in the past with various uncommon fonts, and try to keep these to minimum. - The language is English (Australian dictionary) and using Australian keyboard layout. - This is actually a very large file (book) of over 600 pages, with lots of illustrations (all of which are either Designer format or simply PNG or JPG exports) and photos. My previous book was originally written in InDesign, but I had other issues with InDesign (other than the cost) so I converted it to Publisher, page by page, by copying and pasting the text contents from a PDF export of InDesign. I have created all the chapters and headings correctly in order to produce Contents and Index (which work well). So these crashes are the only issue I am experiencing so far. I have been thinking of highlighting text for editing by using mouse only, instead of Shift+arrows, but I find it slow. I might however try it until the next crash... For your additional information, I just made another small test today, and I opened the last saved file which I worked on until yesterday with the Beta version (remember the last crash I had with Beta was as reported about 5 days ago). Today I opened your official last release (1.10.4) and within literally 5 minutes I had a crash when I started working on the text. Again, the crash happened when I used Shift + some of the arrow keys used to highlight the main body text. I made a copy and paste PDF of the OSX report, attached. Affinity Publisher crash x.pdf
  2. Hi again Dan C, Today I got another crash with the Affinity Publisher Beta you offered me to test. I have been working every day for at least 8hrs each day, and this is the second crash, after the first one reported on Sunday, four days ago. I am attaching the PDF of the rash report, and it happened during the text editing highlight selection, like all previous ones. This time I used left Shift + Right arrow (in the past it was most of the time Shift + Left Arrow). Thanks. Affinity Publisher Beta crash 2.pdf
  3. Thank you Dan C, Sounds we are getting somewhere. Thanks for the First Aid error suggestion. That makes sense now too, because I already tried the "external" check by using the Command+R recovery mode of the OSX itself, and it did check this second partition to be OK. I will be looking forward to the official A. Publisher update release, but if your team wants some more info I am happy to provide. Cheers.
  4. Hi Dan C, Strange enough, I was working almost a week with the Affinity Publisher Beta without any crash issue, and I was literally intending to write to you earlier today that I was happy with the Beta. BUT... Just about five minutes ago, during working with my book, and exactly as I experienced prior crashes - when using the arrows keys to go between words in text editing - I got the first crash of the Beta version ! I am enclosing the PDF which I composed from the Mac OSX report and I am attaching it. Despite the sad news, I am happy as I do not experience the multiple crashes I have been experiencing with the full previous version. So, not sure what are the internal differences between the two, but it seems there is something that is different and "better" if I may say so, because I don't have that many frequent crashes. I have been researching about the previously reported "First Aid" issue, but I can't change my partition for the purpose of finding the issue (if this is causing the crashes). But on the other hand, this cannot be the issue, as your Beta version had no crashes until today, while using the same SSD partition of my files location. Please let me know if there is anything else I could try on your behalf and help solve my problem. AffinityPublisherBeta crash-1.pdf
  5. Thank you Dan C for your response, I really appreciate it. I will try and install your Beta and will test it. Before that however, I want to tell you that I just ran the Disk Utility, and I got the following unexpected message: Running First Aid on “Backups” (disk1s1) Checking file system and repairing if necessary and if possible. Volume could not be unmounted. Restoring the original state found as mounted. The repair cannot be performed because one or more volumes are mounted. : (-69565) Operation failed… Now, just let me clarify that I save my book-work on the second partition of my 2TB SSD drive. So although I call it "Backup" it is not an external drive, but rather just a second partition. I prefer to keep all my App software on the main Mac SSD parition of 1TB, and dedicate my second partition of 1TB on the same SSD as working files. Could this be the reason for it? Thanks again.
  6. I am wondering if anybody from the Affinity Publisher team has read my call for help, posted on Monday, 3 January.

I am sorry, I realise it is a holiday season, but I am having very frequent Publisher crashes while working on my book project.

I hope somebody from Serif will pay attention and hopefully able to help.

    Happy New Year to all.

  7. Affinity Publisher on my Intel MacBook Pro, running Monterey OS (v.12.1) crashes too often while I am working on my major new book (close to 600pages). The crashing happens typically when holding the Shift key and highlighting text during editing with the left arrow (at least this is what I have noticed far). I have reported this crashing to Apple number of times, via their automated Crash screen, but I am worried, as it happens too often, at least doesn’t times in a day of work. I loose hours of work if I don’t save every few seconds, but some times I forget. This is a very important book I have contract to finish it within six months, but I am very worried. I have relatively new 16” MacBookPro (2019), with Intel processor, but only one year old, plenty of RAM (32Gb), 2.4GHz 8-core Intel Core i9 and working with 2TB SSD. The Graphic is Intel UHD 630. The below PDF contain a copy-paste from the automatic report that the OSX brings after crashing. I would kindly ask Serif to analyse the report below and let me know if there is anything you can suggest for me to do to avoid, or at least minimise this annoying and concerning issue. Thank you kindly. Affinity Publisher crashing issue.pdf
  8. I updated the apps on my 12” iPad Pro (2nd gen) yesterday, which included the latest update of the Designer and now I have a situation where the Designer icon is dimmed and text “Cleaning” shown under the icon. This never stops, and I can’t start the app. I can’t even uninstall it, as when a press-hold the icon it comes up with options for loading previous drawings, but nothing happens. how do I reset or uninstall the app when there is no option for uninstall or anything similar? thanks for anybody helping.
  9. I like the Affinity Publisher concept, and already worked on a few brochures and documents. All seems good, but I can't seem to find the word count function. Has it been forgotten, or I just simply can't find it?
  10. Hi Affinity team. I am using Affinity for Mac, both the Designer and Photo, almost full time now. I have happily uninstalled Adobe software and found I can live without the dreaded Illustrator and I can create my artwork much better with the Designer. I am still learning the Affinity Photo, but I am happy I don't depend on Adobe's monthly payment. One important but missing thing in the Designer is the measuring tool. I design a variety of things, including test charts (as included in this as attachment) which require precision and details. To achieve the precision I need to have info at glance when a select/draw lines or shapes like squares for example, and I need to know their exact dimensions (in mm or pixels). This seems to be very difficult if not impossible. I am getting a work around by seeing the info at the bottom right in the Transform window, but nothing is straight forward as I need to make calculations between x and y coordinate to find out the length of a single line for example. Also, I found it frustrating that I can't move the origin of the coordinated system (0,0) top left hand corner to anywhere I like in the screen and start measuring things from a new origin. Why is this so difficult to implement such a simple function in a beautiful program like Designer?
  11. In my original installation of the Affinity Designer (v.1.3.2) I somehow lost the colour picker and layers docker on the right hand side. I could not find anywhere any information how to bring the docker back. I defaulted/reset the custom settings, thinking that maybe I have done something without noticing, but I still did not get the docker back. I had the normal tools on the left hand side, and on the top bar, but the docker with Colour, Swt, Brs, Styles, Layers, Effects, etc. was simply not there. Watching some of the video tutorials about how you work with layers, I saw the tutor was referring to turning Show Layers under the View menu, but there is no such thing in the AD ?!? So, the only way to bring these back was to uninstall the complete program and re-install it back. Now I have the dockers there, but I thought I will flag this possible bug or problem.
  12. 1. Would it be possible in one of the next updates to make the rulers show metric divisions in ten sub-divisions. For example, if I am using a metric rulers, the divisions between cm for example, are not 10, but 5. This makes it very difficult and awkward to measure correctly dimensions using the rulers. 2. Could you also make the zero coordinate of the ruler system be flexible, and to be moved to wherever you want to measure within a drawing. Something like PhotoShop and CorelDraw have. Not having 10 subdivisions in the metric system (the first issue above) it makes almost impossible to precisely measure an element in the drawing that is not aligned exactly to the origin top left hand corner.
  13. Hi all, I started using the Designer v.1.2 and I am happy with what it can do so far. I am very happy now that Designer can do dashed lines. I started planning a serious conversion of all my past drawings made in CorelDraw (via PDF), and in doing so I need to create stencils, or icons of various elements of a drawing, like a PCs, network switches, and alike. In order to do this, the Designer should be able to "Save as selected only". Namely, when I create a new stencil of an item, within a drawing, I should be able to select this and only this item, and then use "Save as selected only" to save it as a separate item and (re)build my new stencils library. The second suggestion (or request if you like) would be to be able to see a wireframe of a drawing, so that I can select an object within an object with a fill, without selecting the larger object that has the fill.
  14. Hi guys, I downloaded today the Beta Affinity Designer (although I bought the original version of a couple of months ago), as I needed dashed lines. I tried to edit an old Corel drawing, which first I exported to PDF, and then imported in Designer, and I had plenty of interconnections there shown with dashed lines with arrows at the ends (bi-directional flow of communications). Because I could't see dashed lines anywhere in the official release, I did a bit of a Forum search and I downloaded the Beta which seems to have these dashed lines in the line styles (thank you). One thing I can see still missing even in the Beta - it is the arrows that you should be able to put at the ends of the lines, whether it be full or dashed, doesn't matter. Are you guys planning of adding different end tips (caps) on lines? Probably they should be in the same area where Line styles are, and "Caps" should be expanded to arrows, dots, and alike. And just a follow up on the old request to the Affinity developers: will there be a direct Corel import ? Thanks guys.
  15. Dotted lines with arrows ?

  16. Да Петар, Македонец сум, ама живеам и работам во Сиднеј. Се надевам работите таму се подобруваат. Поздрав.
  17. Wow, I cannot believe how many Mac users are still running CorelDraw on Parallels, like I do. Really guys from Affinity, you might be onto something really unique for the illustrators if you make it possible to import CDR files into your Designer. Adobe Illustrator for Mac is the least intuitive and the least capable drawing program I have encountered (and I have tried so many). It can not even have multi-pages drawing, like Corel, it can not rasterise if your drawing is A3 format for high resolution printing - it says not enough memory (!?!) even though I have 16GB. Affinity, please take over.
  18. I am a Mac user, and I run Windows in Parallels just for CorelDraw and huge library of icons and drawings I have created in the past 20 years (yes, I have used Corel from v.3 maybe). I tried to use Illustrator, but sadly, I found that Adobe never learnt how to make good human interface program. I would love to give Affinity Designer a go, but I really want the Affinity guys to think of making a CorelDraw import filter. If this is done, I am uninstalling Parallels from my Mac in a flash, and certainly can free up some space uninstalling the old dog that doesn't even bark- Illustrator. Keep up the good work. Vlado
  19. Just discovered Affinity today, and like most of you guys, I am happy to try it out and buy it when it is released. I can see a lot of potential, and I will comment as I go along. I have been using Photoshop, PhotoPaint (when I worked with Windows), and now using Aperture, NIK software (before it disappeared under Google), DxO Optics and just recently discovered Capture One. I still use Photoshop, but I am sick of paying hundreds of dollars for every new version they produce. Photoshop might be a standard today, but I clearly remember when I used Windows, and Corel's Photopaint was their competitor - it outperformed Photoshop in logic, intuitiveness, and simplicity of usage. Unfortunately still stuck with PhotoShop as I have bought many versions of it, but I am happy to let it go and switch ships. I would really love to work with just one program, and I have a good feeling that Affinity might be it. Especially if they listen to the Beta users, as they seem they do. Credit for the efforts, I am sure programming a photo editing application is not an easy task, but just by having such a faster loading tells me these guys know what they are doing. My first comment is on the RAW format opening of my Sony Alpha 7. It opens it, but the image is too dark. Is this a known bug ? Mac's making a preview of a ARW file OK by pressing the space bar, but when opened in Affinity it appears as if it was stripped out of colour and darkened 2 F-stops. Keep up the good work guys.
